Eternal Security

Now that's good advice. But I still have a problem with meeting certain conditions to receive a free gift. I hate to bring up the dreaded W word but me certain conditions to me means jumping through hoops and accomplishing certain things. Let's take a look at the scriptures you posted.

He who believes [who adheres to and trusts in and relies on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth] and is baptized will be saved [from the penalty of eternal death]; but he who does not believe [who does not adhere to and trust in and rely on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth] will be condemned. Mk 16:16.
Pretty straightforward, You believe in Jesus. and you're saved. No extracurricular activity.

And Peter answered them, Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Ac ts2:38.

Nothing we do there either that's baptism of the Holy Spirit that happens automatically believers. We are Filled with the Spirit And become members of the body of Christ.

In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but in a [spiritual] circumcision [performed by] Christ by stripping off the body of the flesh (the whole corrupt, carnal nature with its passions and lusts).
12 [Thus you were circumcised when] you were buried with Him in [your] baptism, in which you were also raised with Him [to a new life] through [your] faith in the working of God [as displayed] when He raised Him up from the dead.
13 And you who were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (your sensuality, your sinful carnal nature), [God] brought to life together with [Christ], having [freely] forgiven us all our transgressions,

I don't see anything man does there either.

WHAT SHALL we say [to all this]? Are we to remain in sin in order that God’s grace (favor and mercy) may multiply and overflow?
2 Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer?
3 Are you ignorant of the fact that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

Nothing there either.

21 And baptism, which is a figure [of their deliverance], does now also save you [from inward questionings and fears], not by the removing of outward body filth [bathing], but by [providing you with] the answer of a good and clear conscience (inward cleanness and peace) before God [because you are demonstrating what you believe to be yours] through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

If you take that to me water baptism after salvation then the definition would be from the above scripture "An outward sign of an inward conversion". It means just what it says we're demonstrating that we're believers by getting baptized. That doesn't make us a believer no matter how many times you get baptized.

And now, why do you delay? Rise and be baptized, and by calling upon His name, wash away your sins
Acts 22:16.

What washes away the sins? Calling on his name believing him. That's our faith. Remember by faith and not by works.


Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Ro 10:9.

I'll give you this one that's a definite condition. Good old Paul he always knows what he's talking about.

So one out of the seven will still get you to heaven.
That's what I call some serious refuting. That's hilarious none of the scriptures showed eternal security to be false not even close.

The believers addressed in verses 24-25, have already BELIEVED, OBEYED, AND RECEIVED THE WARNINGS FROM THE VERSES I QUOTED. They knew that if they didn't DO what Jude commanded them, that they too, would be destroyed (verse 5), kept for judgment (verse 6), or cast into the eternal fire (verse 7). The promise of verse 24 is ONLY for those who overcome. Revelation 21:7 He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be His God and he will be My son.

OBEYING Jesus, doing what He says, is NOT LEGALISM. LEGALISM PRODUCES PRIDE. OBEDIENCE PRODUCES DISCIPLES OF JESUS.

Exactly. And how does he do that? He leaves the 99 and goes and gets that one last night. He doesn't allow anything to snatches out of his hand.

And I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. John 10:28-29

I just don't understand how you could read those two verses and possibly think you could lose your salvation. Plus the fact there are many more that clearly point out eternal security.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

When we fall short he makes intercession for us, he's our great high priest. Our defense attorney. Satan's the accuser of the brethren but Jesus says about us when we fall short, But I died for him.

Yes Sir, whatever God starts, he finishes! Good stuff. That is Paul’s point in Philippians 1:6. The “good work” initiated in the hearts of the Philippian believers will not fall short of the final goal. The new birth, made real in them through the Holy Spirit, will not suffer interruption and fail to produce the good works and obedience that testify to the reality of what they claim. Jesus does it all from first to last. All we need to do is be obedient servants. He has paid the price for salvation and our eternal security.
Dwight -You contradict yourself. First you say Jesus does it all from first to last. Then you say that we need to be obedient servants. So I guess we DO have a part to play.
God promises that he “will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ,” which means that whatever is required along the pathway of our Christian lives, whatever faith is needed, whatever obedience is required, whatever repentance is called for, and whatever endurance we must display, God will work in us through his Spirit so that we will stand before his presence, wholly sanctified in body, soul, and spirit, blameless and without reproach.
Dwight -"whatever is required ... faith, obedience, repentance, endurance ... God will work in us through His Spirit? Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. That's something WE DO. God doesn't make us hear His word. Obedience is also something WE DO. He doesn't make us obey Him. Repentance is something WE DO. God doesn't make us repent. Endurance is something WE DO. He doesn't make us endure.
If God makes us DO THESE THINGS, then we're just marionettes, with Him pulling the strings.

Dwight -You guys are experts at quoting God's promises, but ignoring the conditions that we have to meet to obtain those promises.
I am as sure of this as Paul is: “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ”

The only thing that matters is that at some point in the past we believed the truth of the gospel. The decisive issue isn’t whether we persevere in faith but whether we ever believed at all. If we did, we’re in. If we didn’t, we’re out. It's beyond me why people attempt to make you so difficult when it's clearly stated in the scripture. If you got Jesus he never leaves you nor forsakes you. He doesn't kick you to the curb if you don't live up to someone's opinions.
 
We must never forget that the faithfulness required of us—and make no mistake: it is required—is precisely what God is faithful to provide. Yes, we do have to remain faithful to persevere. And, yes, the power and incentive to do so is what God pledges to produce in us and through us.

God doesn’t merely call his people to sanctification or point them in the direction they should go. He faithfully supplies every need, all the power, every incentive, and whatever spiritual resolve is needed so that each of us who knows Jesus truly will finally stand in his presence blameless and whole.

In the end everything depends on the single reality that God is absolutely faithful.
God is faithful to provide our faithfulness?? What verse is that? It's not found in the Bible.

We are secure because the God that we put their trust and faith preserves us in that faith, apart from which there is no hope or eternal life. Sadly there are some of us that don't realize how truly saved they are. That's going to be a bummer.

Eve was convinced by another voice, who quoted some of God's Word, that God lied to her. The Pharisees believed they could purchase this gift by bringing a goat to a Levite Priest, and killing it, according to the Priesthood covenant God made with Israel after the Golden Calf. Jesus said "many" would come in His Name, teaching that HE is truly the Messiah, but are actually deceivers. Paul warns of satan itself, disguised as "Apostles of Christ" and its buddies as "Ministers of Righteousness". He also said "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."

So, if a person believes what is written in the Holy Scriptures, there are lots of things that can keep a person from receiving the free gift of God. As Paul also teaches.

1 Cor. 6: 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

As it is written, Acts 14: 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Hopefully your answer is no. If not then the Holy Spirit is not done with you yet. Since salvation is a gift of God, there's nothing that we do to earn it, Do you think there's anything we could do to lose it?

In this world's religions, there are those who preach that if a man joins their religion, they are always "saved" regardless of their traditions. I think this doctrine is called OSAS. It is truly a popular religious philosophy, and a great marketing strategy for the religious businesses of this world. But Paul didn't adopt this most popular religious doctrine, as his words clearly show.

1 Cor. 10: 11 Now all these things happened unto them (Israel) for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 12 Wherefore (Because of this truth) let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

It seems this verse was specifically written for those who believe OSAS. I am so thankful to God for giving me this warning. This way I can be watchful and diligent.

Would God take back a gift that he has freely given? Know this, God’s grace toward you did not stop with forgiveness. His grace will continue to be poured out on you forever! That was His purpose from the very beginning.

I totally agree. God will preserve us.

First, we must persevere in faith to enter heaven, not to persevere is to perish. The Arminian is closer to the truth on this point than the antinomian.

Second, God will preserve us in our faith even though at times we may doubt and wander away from the path of righteousness. But he will always remain true to his promise by ensuring that none of his children will fall so far as to finally and forever fail. “Enduring in faith,” says John Piper, “is not owing to our first profession of faith the way health is owing to a one-time vaccination. Enduring faith happens because the great physician does his sustaining work every day. We keep believing in Christ not because of antibodies left over from conversion, but because God does his life-giving, faith-preserving work every day.”

I like that everyday, This is the day that the Lord has made I will rejoice and be glad in it.... Because His word says He will persevere me.

If you like to study your Bible then take a look at these passages as they clearly show how God will preserve us. 1 Corinthians 1:8–9; Philippians 1:6; and Jude 24: Jer. 32:40

The third and most reassuring truth is that because God will preserve us, we will in fact persevere. We will endure in faith. We know this to be true, among other reasons and on the basis of other texts, because:

“those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified” Rom. 8:29–30

The sword of the spirit is our offensive weapon used in spiritual warfare against the devil, demons, and their schemes. May we wield it correctly.
 
They can try but he won't let him go nothing can snatch them out of his hand the only way to turn your back on God is if you're not saved.

The issue, it seems the practice of a man judging himself as "saved" in the first place. "MANY" who call Jesus Lord, Lord, believe or have been convinced they are "Saved", and will even argue with Him "in that day". Jesus speaks to this in Matthew 7. He says they will say to Him basically, "Wait a minute Jesus, don't you know who we are? We taught in your name, built huge religious businesses in your name, got folks off drugs in your name.

Only to find out that Jesus didn't even know them, because they continued to transgress God's Commandments after He washed their past transgressions away. God, in His Mercy, shows us how we can make sure if we are in HIM or deceived, as those men who called HIM Lord, in Matt. 7.

1 John 2: 3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

Had those men in Matthew 7, who call Jesus Lord, Lord, been more interested in being a "Doer" of His Sayings and less interested in doing things "In His Name", perhaps they would have been saved.

Once you belong to Jesus he'll never leave you nor forsake you. He'll leave the 99 sheep and go look for that one that has gone astray. What kind of Life did Jesus come to give us? Eternal life. If that could somehow go away then it wasn't eternal life wasn't?

Then it certainly makes sense to follow His instruction, and "TAKE HEED" of the "many" who come in His Name, preaching to everyone, "Thou shall surely not die".

The One Who is the gift giver, is Almighty God, and we are His workmanship, no one can take the believer out of His mighty hand.

Eph. 2: 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
The Jesus of the Bible describes a discussion HE will have with "MANY" in that Day, who call Him Lord, Lord in Matt. 7. These would be men who Professed to know God but chose to discard or reject some of the "good works" God ordained before hand, that we should walk in them.
Paul speaks to this people as well.
Titus 1: 16 They profess that they know God;

Can you imagine Jesus asking, "Is there anything keeping you from accepting God's free gift of salvation right now?" You won't find Jesus asking any such thing in the Bible. Instead He said, "Repent, and believe in the gospel."

"Repentance from dead works and faith toward God" is part of the foundational teaching about Christ, followed by teaching on baptisms, laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. Then, after one becomes a disciple of Jesus, He asks them, "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord', and do not DO what I say?" and "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny Himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."

Carnal people want something free, without any commitment on their part, or any conditions. That's what OSAS offers, but NOT JESUS.

Only to find out that Jesus didn't even know them, because they continued to transgress God's Commandments after He washed their past transgressions away. God, in His Mercy, shows us how we can make sure if we are in HIM or deceived, as those men who called HIM Lord, in Matt. 7.

1 John 2: 3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

Had those men in Matthew 7, who call Jesus Lord, Lord, been more interested in being a "Doer" of His Sayings and less interested in doing things "In His Name", perhaps they would have been saved.



Then it certainly makes sense to follow His instruction, and "TAKE HEED" of the "many" who come in His Name, preaching to everyone, "Thou shall surely not die".
All right let's talk about making sense. John 3:16 tells us God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.

It doesn't make any sense to believe that All the people in the world that believe in Jesus are going to think the same way about keeping their salvation or losing their salvation. BUT The Bible clearly tells me that we're not going to lose our salvation. Look back up at John 3:16 see the last two words? Eternal life, How do you lose eternal life? If you lose eternal life then it was not eternal and John 3:16 has to be a lie. When it comes to the word of God we all need to have excellent discernment. That way no one can come at you with the LIE. No offense but people that are being deceived are the ones that believe you can lose your salvation. My suggestion would be that they hold themselves accountable to a few people. That way if they deceive themselves into believing they've lost their salvation they have someone to help them go look for it.
 
The most dangerous thing, according to Scriptures in my view, keeping men from accepting God and His gift is deception and/or unbelief. Eve was convinced by another voice, who quoted some of God's Word, that God lied to her. The Pharisees believed they could purchase this gift by bringing a goat to a Levite Priest, and killing it, according to the Priesthood covenant God made with Israel after the Golden Calf. Jesus said "many" would come in His Name, teaching that HE is truly the Messiah, but are actually deceivers. Paul warns of satan itself, disguised as "Apostles of Christ" and its buddies as "Ministers of Righteousness". He also said "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."

So, if a person believes what is written in the Holy Scriptures, there are lots of things that can keep a person from receiving the free gift of God. As Paul also teaches.

1 Cor. 6: 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

As it is written, Acts 14: 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.



It seems then, for the man of God, that in matters of God's salvation we should take our direction and instruction from God's Word. Paul instructs the Body of Christ in this way.

2 Tim. 3: 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

As long as a man continues in the Word of God, written for our admonition, we can have hope.

But according to the Spirit who inspired this same Apostle;

Rom. 11: 20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

In this world's religions, there are those who preach that if a man joins their religion, they are always "saved" regardless of their traditions. I think this doctrine is called OSAS. It is truly a popular religious philosophy, and a great marketing strategy for the religious businesses of this world. But Paul didn't adopt this most popular religious doctrine, as his words clearly show.

1 Cor. 10: 11 Now all these things happened unto them (Israel) for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 12 Wherefore (Because of this truth) let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

It seems this verse was specifically written for those who believe OSAS. I am so thankful to God for giving me this warning. This way I can be watchful and diligent.

2 Peter 3: 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.



Again, I know how seductive the religious voices of this world are, and the popular religious traditions we were born into. Especially OSAS. But it seems prudent to take direction from God's inspired Word. After all, it is said to be our Armor that we are to "put on" to resist the wiles of the devil.

"Repentance from dead works and faith toward God" is part of the foundational teaching about Christ, followed by teaching on baptisms, laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. Then, after one becomes a disciple of Jesus, He asks them, "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord', and do not DO what I say?" and "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny Himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."

Carnal people want something free, without any commitment on their part, or any conditions. That's what OSAS offers, but NOT JESUS.
Talk about missing the point entirely of eternal security and on top of that insulting people that know the truth and believe in it believe in it. WoW

Misinterpretation of believers of eternal security, That's a total falsehood. The proof has been posted here in this thread many times over.

I agree in part. I think it's dangerous to say "Carnal people" do this or that, because all men are carnal, and all men love darkness, at least according to the Jesus of the Bible.

HE says, in my understanding, that there are 2 kinds of men. Those who avoid the Light, (Word of God) for the express purpose of preserving darkness. (Like refusing to accept Scriptures which expose OSAS as of men and not God)

And those who seek truth by coming to the Light, (Word of God) for the express purpose of exposing the darkness they know exists within them.
