I couldn't help but notice Peter didn't say Jesus was "a" son of God; no, he said
"the" son of God.
Now it could be that Peter was thinking of 1Chron 17:11-14 whereby Solomon
became a unique son of God; which implies that each succeeding monarch in
Solomon's line of kings held that distinction. Maybe, I don't know for sure, but it
got me to thinking.
God has many sons, but Jesus is the only one among those many that is God's
actual paternal descendant, i.e. Jesus is God's sole biological son instead of one of
His many adopted sons. (John 1:14, John 3:16, John 3:18, and 1John 4:9)
My own paternal son doesn't look much like me, but in spite of our physical
differences, he is just as much a human being as I because he is the progeny of a
human being. So if Jesus really and truly is God's paternal descendant, then Jesus
is just as much a divine being as God because he is the progeny of a divine being--
in point of fact, the progeny of the one true divine being.
Most adults are familiar with the birds and the bees, viz: we are aware that like
produces like, to wit: birds produce birds and bees produce bees. Well; if God were
to reproduce, He would produce more of His own kind just as when I reproduced, I
produced more of my own kind, viz: divine produces divine just as human produces
human.
I don't know how God went about reproducing Himself, but I'm pretty well
convinced that Jesus is a very special theophany. None of the Old testament's
theophanies had genealogies, whereas Jesus does, viz: he is just as biologically
related to Adam as he's biologically related to God. Pretty amazing.

And Peter answered that question with you are the Christ, (Messiah) the son of God. Peter did not
say you are God.
