Justification by Faith

Faith is Given to all whom God has imputed righteousness without works. In other words, all who have been accounted righteous for Christs sake will come to believe Rom 3:20-22

20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Rom 4:24

But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

It is not the faith OF Jesus, but our faith IN Jesus by which we are saved. Out of 32 translations of this verse on Biblehub.com, only 7 of them translate it as "faith OF Jesus". The rest have it "faith IN Jesus". And in the commentaries about the verse, every one of them say that it is our faith IN Jesus by which we are saved, not the faith OF Jesus imputed down to us. It is His righteousness that is imputed to us through our faith.

1. None of the early church fathers or early Greek readers give a subjective genitive reading of pistis christou. In fact, the discussion doesn’t even come up.
  • This reason is the most compelling to me. As a fluent Romanian speaker, I’ve observed quirky grammatical constructions that could possibly mean two or more things within the flow of the language. If Romanians, however, hear those grammatical constructions in only one way, then I know that I’m correct in translating the ambiguous phrase according to its unambiguous meaning in its original language and the receptor language. The same principle applies to native Greek speakers.
  • Barry Matlock writes: “It is not that the subjective genitive reading is explicitly rejected among early Greek readers… but rather that no awareness is shown of this option nor indeed of any problem, and so the objective is read without polemic or apology. Silence can be very eloquent, and here it fairly sings.”
2. The “repetition” problem isn’t as big a problem as it first appears.
  • In Rom. 3:21-22, Paul probably intends to place the emphasis on the “all”: -that is, God’s righteousness through trust in Jesus Christ, to all who trust.
  • It is also likely that Paul uses repetition intentionally. In an oral culture, this is a common technique at getting across one’s point.
3. Grammatically, there are other places where the genitive refers to Christ as the object.
  • In Philippians 3:8, Jesus Christ is described as the object of knowledge. In 1 Thessalonians, he is described as the object of hope. In both these cases, it is clear from the context that Paul is not talking about Christ’s knowledge or Christ’s hope. There is no grammatical reason why the same can’t be true of pistis christou.
4. We should not do exegesis with a bias toward “what is theologically attractive.”
  • Though I love the emphasis the “faithfulness of Christ” view places on Christ’s obedience, I can’t let my exegesis be driven by what appears to support my theological position. The key issue is “what did the author intend to communicate?”, not “how does this boost what I already believe?”
  • Regarding my thoughts above on Christ’s faithfulness to the covenant, I should reiterate that Paul’s emphasis on “faith in Christ” does not undermine the truth that God is the One doing the saving.
  • Michael Bird writes: “Faith in Christ means entrusting ourselves to the event of the gospel, which includes the theocentric act of deliverance wrought by God in Jesus which includes his coming, faithfulness, death, and resurrection. Thus, I would say that Jesus’ faithfulness is implied not in the noun pistis but in christos.”

You have the most profound and expansive come-backs. PROVE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING, don't just repeat the same drivel over and over. If you can't prove it, then could you possibly be wrong and just don't want to admit it, even to yourself.
Everywhere in the NT its always faith IN Christ that saves and eternal life is the result. Jesus faith doesn't save anyone. Its faith in Him that saves a person from their sins.

Nowhere do we read its Jesus faith that saves us its our faith in Him that we become saved.

Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:30 that believers are sealed for the day of redemption. If believers did not have salvation or eternal life/security then the sealing could not truly be until the day of redemption. Paul in Romans 8:38-39 really drives home the everlasting promise of eternal life/salvation for the believer "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Our eternal security is bought with the blood of Christ, promised to us by the Father Who cannot deny Himself and sealed in the believers heart by the Holy Spirit. What wonderful promises believers have for their eternal security in Christ.

Jesus tells us in John 3:15-16 that whoever believes in Jesus Christ will have eternal life, not might have but actually possesses that everlasting life. If a person is promised eternal life and then to have it taken away then it was never eternal to begin with and it makes Jesus out to be a liar and the promises of God to be false. Below we see more promises the believer can count on for eternal life now and in the future. We can be confident in the promises of God.

John 3:16
16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:36
"He who believes in the Son has eternal life;

John 5:24
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

John 6:47
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.

John 6:54
54 "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

John 10:27-30
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. 30 "I and the Father are one."

Matt 25:46

"These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

1 John 3:14
We know that we have passed out of death into life,

1 John 5:13
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Its a lot of things I read that you dont read in scripture.

Its a lot of things I read that you dont read in scripture.
You said that you read a lot of things that are not in Scripture.
They are in scripture.
Now you say they is in Scripture.

There are dozens that say that we are saved because of OUR faith that we put IN Christ. What Scripture would contradict these Scripture and says that we are saved by the faith OF Jesus?

What is the Faith of Jesus Christ ? For example:

Rom 3:22

Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Gal 2:16

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Gal 3:22

But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

Contrary to what many believe and teach, the genitive phrase Faith of Jesus Christ is not speaking of the believers Faith, but of Christs Faith/Faithfulness. The word Faith in all three of these scriptures are genitive nouns meaning its Christs own Faith/Faithfulness in view. To be Justified by the Faith of Christ is simply being Justified by His Faithfulness or Obedience. Rom 5:19 points to that, its being made righteous by the obedience of one, that one being Christ.

Same thing in Phil 3:9

And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Gods Elect are made, declared legally righteous or Justified by Christs Faithful Obedience to fulfill all conditions needed before Gods Law and Justice in their behalf.

We are justified by faith when we believe our Lord Jesus Christ's sinless blood shed for us justifies us with God. (Rom 5:1,9)

God Bless
We are Justified by God and Christs Blood when Jesus died for our sins Rom 4:25

25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Rom 5:9

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Faith persuades us of Justification already accomplished by Jesus Christ.

'For you see your calling, brothers,
that not many wise men according to the flesh are called,
not many mighty, not many noble.
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;
and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
and God has chosen the base things of the world,
and things which are despised,
and things which are not,
in order to bring to nothing things that are;
so that no flesh should glory in His presence.
But of Him you are in Christ Jesus,
who of God is made to us
wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption;
so that, according as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the Lord."

(1Cor. 1:26-31)

We are Justified by God and Christs Blood when Jesus died for our sins Rom 4:25

25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
No argument that we are justified by the shed blood of our sinless Lord.

The argument is how does man obtain access to this wonderful grace from God.

Rom 5:9

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Faith persuades us of Justification already accomplished by Jesus Christ.
That is why his (Abraham's) faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” But the words “it was counted to him (Abraham)” were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." Therefore (for that reason), since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him (through His death and resurrection for us) we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (Rom 4:25, 5:1-2)

Faith is the hand that receives what God is giving. Without faith, no one has "access to this grace in which we stand"; this grace is that by the death and resurrection of our sinless our Lord Jesus Christ, we are justified-declared righteous by God. "The righteous shall live by his faith."

We are justified by faith when we believe our Lord Jesus Christ's sinless blood shed for us justifies us with God. (Rom 5:1,9)

God Bless
