nope the new birth comes after hearing and believing the gospel.

so we see the new birth is a result of hearing and believing the preaching of the word of God. the gospel message.

James 1:18
He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of His creation.

1 Peter 1:25
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

1 Peter 1:21-24

Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. 22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For,

“All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word that was preached to you.

1 John 5:1
1Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him.

Romans 10:17
Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Ephesians 5:26
to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,

Ephesians 1:13-14
And in Him, having heard and believed the word of truth—the gospel of your salvation—you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, / who is the pledge of our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession, to the praise of His glory.

1 Corinthians 4:15
Even if you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.

2 Thessalonians 2:13
But we should always thank God for you, brothers who are loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved by the sanctification of the Spirit and by faith in the truth.

Colossians 1:5-6
the faith and love proceeding from the hope stored up for you in heaven, of which you have already heard in the word of truth, the gospel / that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood the grace of God.

conclusion: the calvinists have this backwards. @Red Baker

hope this helps !!!

What is the GOSPEL ?

One must get the gospel right since it depends on a persons salvation. The gospel message cannot be compromised. It is essential to Salvation.

In the Essentials unity
In the non essentials liberty
In all things liberty.

Believers must be unified regarding the gospel and never allow it to be compromised, have things added to the gospel ot taken away from the gospel. Paul says let antone who would do such a thing be cursed, anathema.

Galatians 1:6-9
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

Gospel literally means " good news ". What is the good news ?

the Greek word is where we get our English word from evangelism

euaggelion: good news
Original Word: εὐαγγέλιον, ου, τό
Part of Speech: Noun, Neuter
Transliteration: euaggelion
Phonetic Spelling: (yoo-ang-ghel'-ee-on)
Definition: good news
Usage: the good news of the coming of the Messiah, the gospel; the gen. after it expresses sometimes the giver (God), sometimes the subject (the Messiah, etc.), sometimes the human transmitter (an apostle).

there is One Gospel

Galatians 1:6
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

So since there is only One God, One Savior, One way to God through Christ, One faith, One baptism and One Gospel- there is only one way to be saved.

Paul defines that Gospel by which we are saved below:

1 Corinthians 15:1-19
Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.

Only One way to be saved, by One Person, One Gospel and One Faith. In Him alone. Scripture is really very exclusive here but inclusive to all that come to Him freely!

And Paul received this gospel directly from Christ by personal revelation

Galatians 1:11-12
I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

This gospel is Eternal !

Revelation 14:6
Then I saw another angel flying overhead, with the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation and tribe and tongue and people

Acts 4:12
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved

1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God and one mediatorbetween God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
Gospel Summary

1- Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures
2- Jesus was buried , in a guarded tomb
3- Jesus was raised from the dead, resurrected on the 3rd day bodily
4- Jesus was seen by many witnesses over 40 days before His Ascension

Jesus died for the sin of the world as the Lamb of God who taketh them away ( John 1:29 ) and Rose from the dead as the only sign He would give an unbelieving people who rejected Him proving He was the promised Messiah who had the power over sin, death/grave and the devil having been raised from the dead conquering them all. The gospel is a historical fact verified by many witnesses. The biblical principle of letting every fact be confirmed by the testimony of 2 or 3 witnesses. This gospel is for all the world, for all sinners to come freely and receive the forgiveness of their sins by the atonement He made for ALL the WORLD as per 1 John 2:2.

John 1:12

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

John 3:16-18
“For God so loved the world,[i] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

John 20:30-31
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

The new birth being born again comes through the message of the gospel. It doesn't come before but after faith.

24 For,

“All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word that was preached to you.

So Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ !

Romans 10
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” 16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

hope this helps !!!

If anyone disagrees have them explain how an unsaved person becomes saved from the scriptures.

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Amen! (y)

Exactly. The calvinist has no biblical answer just their subjective ideas about what they have been taught to believe. The scriptures do not contradict themselves and there are so many that clearly say that belief in the gospel precedes life, new birth, salvation, eternal life- all which are a result of believing and receiving the gospel of Christ.

The gospel is Gods means ( His grace ) extended to all the world, all men to either receive or reject. God saves those who believe.

Amen !

he was saved after His encounter with Christ, not before.

next fallacy.

in fact he was not given the Holy Spirit until after.

Acts 9:17-19

- when Paul received the Spirit

Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19and after taking some food, he regained his strength.

Another link to show that God predestined Saul/Paul for the job God had for him.

Just like Job, and Jeremiah, and Noah, and all the disciples, and even Judas.

In God's plans were the need for certain people to do certain things.... God would not take a random chance of arbitrarily appointing me, or even you @Red Baker . It was never necessary for the Father to predestine ALL of mankind. Only those who were needed for specific jobs. Like Mary, Like Elizabeth, and scores of others over the history from when those first 3 words were written... "In the beginning".

But not as you think your link suggests... On when Paul was saved.

......What Did Saul Do to Be Born Again?• Absolutely nothing, because God regenerated first!

He was predestined to become Paul. He was under God's guidance and care.

This is a poor link on the subject.

Here they say • He got baptized to wash away his sins (Acts 22:16).

......When is no clear record of Paul being water baptized in the New Testament. Period

  • Acts 9:17-19: Ananias visits Saul (Paul) and says he will be filled with the Holy Spirit. After this, Saul is described as getting up and being baptized. However, it is debated whether this refers to water baptism or a spiritual baptism.
  • Acts 22:16: Paul recounts that Ananias told him to "wash away your sins," which some interpret as a reference to water baptism. Yet, the term "wash" can also imply spiritual cleansing.

And they say

• Jesus had no invitation of any kind to get Paul saved!

• Paul did not accept Jesus as Saviour or open his heart!

• The record is silent about getting saved or born again.
• These things are of paramount importance to most.

• If Paul neglected them, we should also neglect them.

Nope... not a good link at all.

Sorry

I personally am far more interested in talking about anoth elephant in the room.

And that would be on when and how Paul was baptised.
Amen you nailed it and I cannot believe some have the audacity to compare themselves with the Prophets and Apostles. Those are designated offices of a select few that exist no more. It ended with the death of John.

It verges on insanity. Its the epitome of human pride/ego, arrogance.

Acts 16:30 (KJV) And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

And unless someone tells them the gospel they will never be saved.

I'll go even further.

Words of our native languages are discerned in the context of our experience in learning them. Words mean different things to different people. A proper perspective of the natural language of the hearer is required before a person can understand enough to embrace God in understanding the Gospel.

Many people will (like Calvinists) insist that God must grant privileged/secret knowledge to someone before they can be saved. Even then, that claim can not be removed from the requirements of knowing and discerning human/natural speech.

In other words, it is just another excuse to claim special privilege where none exists.

The very word "saved" in the English language means many different things to many different English speaking people. It is much more complicated than.... "God chose me"....

Which is what you get from Calvinism.

I believe there are many people that think they're saved but are not actually saved. It is our duty and the duty of mankind to lead others to understanding of the Gospel.

Gal 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
Gal 4:20 I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.

I'll just say that "offices" and "privileged" position where predetermined. Not the specific men that held them. God always has a replacement for rebels.

Paul even said...

1Co 9:17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
1Co 9:18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

I'll go even further.

And here is another thing to consider when Jesus used the word saved which in many instances was translated into English as healed. Its the same Greek word.

Jesus healed them after they exhibited faith- He said " your faith " has saved you, healed you.

Faith is always the condition God has placed upon man.

Calvinists deny that condiction.

“All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word that was preached to you.

So Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ !

Romans 10

For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

hope this helps !!!
Thanks for the Thread, I want to learn more about the Gospel.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news of salvation through faith in Jesus as the Messiah, Savior, and Son of God. It encompasses His life, teachings, crucifixion, death, and resurrection, offering the promise of forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and reconciliation with God to all who believe. The term "gospel" comes from the Greek word "euangelion," meaning "good news," and signifies the announcement that Jesus came to reconcile humanity with God.

Got? has a ton of stuff about the gospel.

Question: What is the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Answer: The word gospel means “good news,” so the gospel of Christ is the good news of His coming to provide forgiveness of sins for all who will believe (Colossians 1:14; Romans 10:9). Since the first man’s sin, mankind has been under the condemnation of God (Romans 5:12). Because everyone breaks God’s perfect law by committing sin, everyone is guilty (Romans 3:23). The punishment for the crime of sin is physical death (Romans 6:23) and then an eternity spent in a place of punishment (Revelation 20:15; Matthew 25:46). This eternal separation from God is also called the “second death” (Revelation 20:14–15).

The bad news that all are guilty of sin and condemned by God is countered by the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. God, because of His love for the world, has made a way for man to be forgiven of their sins (John 3:16). He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take the sins of mankind on Himself through death on a cross (1 Peter 2:24). In placing our sin on Christ, God ensured that all who will believe in the name of Jesus will be forgiven (Acts 10:43). Jesus’ resurrection guarantees the justification of all who believe (Romans 4:25).

The Bible specifies the content of the gospel message: “Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time” (1 Corinthians 15:1–6). In this passage, Paul emphasizes the primacy of the gospel—it is of “first importance.” The gospel message contains two historical facts, both supported by Scripture: Christ’s death and His resurrection. Both those facts are bolstered by other proofs: Christ’s death is proved by His burial, and His resurrection is proved by the eyewitnesses.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news that God provided the way for man to be freed from the penalty of sin (John 14:6; Romans 6:23). Everyone dies physically, but those who believe in Jesus Christ are promised a physical resurrection unto eternal life (John 11:23–26). Those who reject Christ will not only die physically but will undergo a “second death,” which the Bible describes as an eternal lake of fire (Revelation 20:13–14). Jesus is the only One in whom salvation can be found (Acts 4:12).

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the best news anyone will ever hear, and what a person does with this news will determine where he or she spends eternity. God is calling you to choose life. Call on the name of the Lord and be saved (Romans 10:13).

Question: What is the gospel?

Answer: The word gospel literally means “good news” and occurs 93 times in the Bible, exclusively in the New Testament. In Greek, it is the word euaggelion, from which we get our English words evangelist, evangel, and evangelical. The gospel is, broadly speaking, the whole of Scripture; more narrowly, the gospel is the good news concerning Christ and the way of salvation.

You can learn a lot there. Who knew where the words evangelist, evangel, and evangelical came from?
