God was also referred to as the Lord in the Old Testament. He gave the position of the title Lord to Jesus Christ when he raised him from the dead. So we have two Lords. One in the Old Testament and one in the New Testament. What you do is see the word Lord in the Old Testament and you see the word Lord in the New Testament and then you (Not God) make this jump to say both Lords are the same living being.
No He is called the Lord of Glory- the Only Sovereign and Lord, the Lord one must call upon to be saved in Joel 2:32. The One Lord who created all things. He is/was the Lord before His birth as a man.

John 17:3 says the Father, one you define as a person, as the only true God. How do you reconcile the fact that a single person is defined as a single person who is alone the only true God with trinitarianism? You have an unscriptural god.

2 plural nouns (Elohim for God & Adonai for Lord) are applied to God in the O.T. which in English are both God and Lord. Most often they are always plural when applied to God. These 2 plural nouns for God are the two most frequently used nouns of God in the O. T.

  1. Two plural nouns are applied to God: God and Lord, are almost always plural when applied to God. These two plural nouns (God - elohim, Lord - adonai) are the two most frequently used nouns of God in the Old Testament.
  2. Three plural pronouns, (We, Us, Our) used 6 different times in four different passages: Gen 1:26; 3:22; 11:7; Isa 6:8.

But the plurality of Hebrew verbs follow the noun. This is not the case in English. This plurality of verbs associated with God, is most striking and unusual to those who read Hebrew.
  2. Plural adjectives that describe God: "holy". Again, this is a function of Hebrew grammar that does not exist in English. The plurality of adjectives is tagged to the associated noun, which in this case is God. It is most unusual to have a plural adjective describing God.

B. Why this is proof of Trinity in the Old Testament:

  1. Anti-Trinitarians and Unitarians alike, try to explain away the plural references to God in the Old Testament: "Let
US make man in OUR image". (Gen 1:26)

  1. While Trinitarians expect to find such plural pronouns and verbs used in reference to God at face value, anti-Trinitarians fall all over themselves trying to find a way to avoid the obvious truth that there are three persons in the one God.
  2. As we will see, all of the Anti-Trinitarian arguments are invalid leaving us with no other conclusion then the fact that God is a plurality of persons, just as the Biblical trinity teaches.
  3. The trinity was hidden in the Old Testament until Christ came and the earliest Christians began to "search the (Old Testament) scriptures daily" (Acts 17:11) to see if Paul's claim that Jesus of Nazareth, was the direct subject of prophecy. We have no doubt that Paul would point out the six passages where God is refereed to with plural pronouns. (We, Us, Our)
  4. God’s oneness is conveyed by personal pronouns like He, Him, His, I, Myself, Me. The trinity is witnessed in the Old Testament by personal pronouns like We, Us, Ours.
C. The apostolic Fathers unanimously taught that the "we" in Gen 1:26, refers to the trinity:

  1. 200 AD Tertullian: "In the first place, because all things were made by the Word of God, and without Him was nothing made. I. Angels are not included in "we" and "us":

A. Anti-Trinitarians claim that when God said, "Let US make man in OUR image". (Gen 1:26) he was speaking to angels.

  1. Angels are not created in the image of God, only man.
  2. If angels are included in "Let US make", then angels AND God are equally our creator.
  3. Jehovah’s Witnesses actually get this one right: The US includes (at least) the Father and Jesus in this creation. Jesus, being God, is the creator of all things: "All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. " John 1:3
  4. Hebrews 1:5 proves Jehovah’s Witnesses false teachers when they say Jesus is an angel: "
For to which of the angels did He ever say, "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You"? And again, "I will be a Father to Him And He shall be a Son to Me"? " (Hebrews 1:5) Of course the answer is rhetorical: God never said to any angels "Today I have begotten You". But he did say this to Jesus. Therefore Jesus cannot be an angel, but we begotten at his resurrection as Acts 13:33 says, thereby fulfilling Ps 2:7.

  1. The self contradictory doctrine of the Watchtower has Jesus the creature, functioning as our co-creator (Jn 1:3; Col 1:16). But this violates Rom 1:25: "worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator". This passage teaches that if Jesus is the creator, as the Bible says he is, then he cannot be a creature. Jesus cannot be creator and creature at the same time!
B. Biblical examples of conversations between God and Angels never use the words We/US.

  1. The very best example is in Gen 18 where Yahweh and two angels visit Abraham. Here is a case where God is consulting with two angels and DOES NOT USE US. Three went down to do joint work, but God uses the singular "I" over and over again when actually talking to the two angels! If ever there should be a precedent for US/WE/OUR including God and angels, this would be it. But Anti-Trinitarians are most disappointed that the singular "I" is used. The power of this example proves the other US/WE/OUR do not include angels: "Then the [three] men rose up from there, and looked down toward Sodom; and Abraham was walking with them to send them off. Yahweh said, "Shall I [not we] hide from Abraham what I am about to do, " Genesis 18:16-17 click for more on Gen 18 & 19
  2. "Micaiah said, "Therefore, hear the word of the Lord. I saw
the Lord sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left. Conclusion:

A. The evidence that "Let US make man in OUR image". (Gen 1:26) refers to the Trinity is irrefutable.

  1. The unanimous interpretation of all the apostolic fathers from 100 - 300 AD was that the US of Gen 1:26 referred to the trinity. They all viewed the Father talking to the Son and the Holy Spirit. They specifically rejected the notion of God talking to the angels. Of course they never discuss the concept of plural of majesty, for it did not exist at this time.
  2. The Unitarians and Christadelphians are wrong because they say Us refers to God and the Angels. But man is not created in the image of angels, but of God. Jesus is not included in their view of US.
  3. The Jehovah’s Witnesses do include Jesus and the Father in the US of Gen 1:26, but make Jesus the created arch-angel Michael. But Heb 1:5 proves Jesus cannot be, nor ever has been an angel. Further, in their self contradictory doctrine, they have Jesus the creature, as our co-creator (Jn 1:3). But this violates Rom 1:25: "worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator". This passage teaches that if Jesus is the creator, as the Bible says he is, then he cannot be a creature. Jesus cannot be creator and creature at the same time!
B. Such occasional usage's of plural, nouns, verbs and adjectives of God, man and material objects, are best explained as typical and normal for the Hebrew language. Its just they way they expressed things at times.

C. The plural nouns and pro-nouns applied to God, like WE, US, OUR, Elohim, Adonai are powerful evidence of the Trinity hidden in the Old Testament, to be discovered after the coming of Christ. The almost exclusive use of the plural elohim for God and adonai for Lord, make a strong case that any honest seeker could see. This extensive pattern is irrefutable. By Steve Rudd

Notice Christ is equal with God and those phrases are interchangeable and have the exact same meaning.

There’s an ongoing push to diminish the Alpha and Omega-the mighty God-into nothing more than a mere man, denying the core of what Christians cherish as revealed in Scripture. Every doctrine we uphold is being systematically redefined to fit a version of faith they’re marketing here on this forum.

Even after we’ve pointed out the error in their approach, they persist in willfully rejecting biblical truth and guidance from Scripture.

Two things...

1.) Jesus was never a "mere man" as you put it. He was the son of God, the Christ... God's Anointed, the resurrected one that God made both Lord and Christ.

2.) You bring up a point I wonder about often. Is it really true that the trinity is based on every biblical doctrine you hold? Because if it is it would explain why I have never been able to move one of you guys away from it.
 
It does make sense to recognize the orthodox Christians in their trinitarian view to be Christians. It may be possible that unorthodox unitarian people may also become Christians. It just seems a risky way to try to follow God.
You also have weird views of discounting people for following typical Christian practices. Sure it might help to remind people that the motions of such practices do not get one justified, but it is not sensible to just reject those practices outright. Then you have a weird view of "spirit" or "spiritual" of what you call "believers." Your doctrine therefore veers not only in your denial of the divinity of Christ but also in your conception of the Spirit in the Godhead.
One comment you gave is that Christ cannot be the image of God since he is divine himself. But that misses the fact that God the Son is not normally incarnate. What we have is that we get the image of God the Father through humanity. Jesus, as the Logos, gave the people the image possible through this limited means. So all your doctrine does is put obstacles in your way so that you cannot comprehend who Christ is.

It did not make a sufficient argument to deny Christ's divinity in the Godhead. But if that is your best, then you gotta stick with it.
Oh it was not my best at denying the trinity. It was me responding to the Scripture you use to say there is a trinity. My best is always the simple stuff. Jesus is called the son of God more than 50 times in the New Testament. Not once is he called God the son.
 
If one refuses to worship Him while they are on this earth there is no point in going to heaven. That is the uni dilemma

Nobody has been able to give an example of an activity that proves that you do to worship Jesus, and that an Unitarian would NOT do.
I have put this challenge weeks ago and nobody has come with a single example.

So far, "worshiping Jesus" is just rhetoric, without any ground on daily practice.

To summarize the responses some of you have tried

Sing hymns to Jesus. Any Unitarian can sign a hymn to Jesus. I have no problem with doing that. So, that's not an activity that separates Trinitarians from Unitarians.

Pray to Jesus. Most Trinitarians in the world pray to the Father, and never or almost never to Jesus. So, that's not an activity that separates Trinitarians from Unitarians. In any case, I have no issue in praying to Jesus.

Kneeling before Jesus. This is another thing that Unitarians can do without a problem. I can do it happily and feeling honored. So, that's not an activity that separates Trinitarians from Unitarians. In any case, I have no issue in praying to Jesus.

Is there something else?
Are you going to keep accusing Unitarians of not doing a thing that you can't even explain?

You are not a unitarian. You are of a another religion that rejects who Christ Jesus is. You denigrate his unique offering in that Christ is the only way to know God. I'm not sure that Unitarianism could be considered as Christianity either, but that is a different discussion.

While I appreciate that you're playing devil's advocate regarding Nicodemus, I just can’t see or imagine that this is what truly unfolded between Jesus Christ and Nicodemus.

You've also grown bold enough to openly declare on this forum that you worship Muhammad in the same way as Yeshua Ha-Mashiach.

I have all the right to respond, as you have all the right to read or not my response.

I am not a Christian, but a Baha'i, as I have openly declared since I joined the Forum, and every time I am asked.
I consider Muhammad and Jesus as Manifestations of God. I also consider Buddha and Abraham and Moses and Zoroaster and Krishna as Manifestations of God. I consider The Báb and Bahá'u'lláh as Manifestations of God.

In addition, I hold some people like saints of the highest order, like Guru Nanak (founder of Sikhism), or Confucio.

To me, each Manifestation of God has been unique and ultimate in their time and circumstance. Everyone of them has been a Lord over their revelation. So I do honor Muhammed as I honor Jesus.

I will see how I can include in my profile a statement about the religion I practice so that there is no confusion in any of my friends in the Forum.

Notice Christ is equal with God and those phrases are interchangeable and have the exact same meaning.

Christ is God.

Certainly they have the same meaning.

The gospel of Christ is the gospel of God. How on earth could it be the gospel of Beelzebub?
The church of Christ is the church of God. How on earth could it be the church of Satan?
The spirit of Christ is the spirit of God. How on earth could it be a demonic spirit?

Between Jesus and His Father there is unity, alignment, the one He expect us to have among ourselves.
So, Jesus' words are God's words.
Jesus' works are God's works.
Jesus' promises are God's promises.

I would also like to add that I am concerned with fellowshipping with God as I love and worship Him with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength. But it's the Christ that I am fellowshipping with to the end that I am moving back and forth with him and thereby able to have a relationship with him. I now spend much of my time right inside the spirit as close as I can get right in their face. The Greek word menō translated "abide" often deals with being in him, which I'm very concerned about when it comes to walking in Christ, which I believe is the same as walking in the spirit. To be in him or to abide in him deals with remaining or continuing to be present. To dwell, live, and be within him to the end that we are operative in him by his divine influence and energy. My first red flag that started me looking into how to do this was when I realized it's the Catholics that teach we are sinners. They teach us to look at ourselves and our sin. I teach that we should look at Christ and to walk in his spirit.

That is another doctrine that is off in this Unitarian doctrine. This is a hyper-spiritualization concept that does not fit with scripture. Being In Christ refers to behaving in accord with love of one's neighbor (especially the other Christians but extends to others too).

Your concept of being "in him" is like the trinity. Widely believed, but not true. I believe what you have is walking in your flesh and calling it spiritual. And my whole point is you cannot be in Christ if you think he's God. You also cannot give God real worship if you do not go through Christ and you cannot do that either if you think he's God. And that causes me to think that your whole religion is to live out your life trying to be nice to other humans so God will like you. And this also tells me why none of you will let this trinity thing go because it's based on your whole religious concept of walking in your flesh.

you are consistent in doctrinal error. That is the problem. You misconceive of the deity of Christ and many other errors fall into place. You have done all this without making a sensible argument. I have considered some of your arguments but they all fail.
 
You continue to run away from unitarian slaying phrases like "the Word was God" and "Truly, truly, I say to you, Before Abraham came into being, I AM!" in order to save face.
I have already presented my view in this Forum in the past.
I don't run away. I'm not afraid. I'm not in despair. I'm loved. I'm saved.

  • "The Word was God" is a poetic way to say "God has always spoken: God would not be God without speaking."
  • "Before Abrahamn came into being I am" means "Don't pride on being children of Abraham, you evildoers, because I've existed before Abraham".
