Redeemed from unbelief !

Those who are of the elect like Paul, because Christ has put away their sins by His offering of Himself, and redeemed them from all iniquity, God has Mercy on them for their ignorance and unbelief 1 Tim 1:13

13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

In Grace Pauls hate for Christ and unbelief was exchanged for Faith and Love Vs 14

14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

and thats the Pattern for all Gods elect in unbelief Vs 16

16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

Only those who believe are redeemed

What did you not understand

Nope

no one is actually redeemed unless they first believe
Its because men have been redeemed the Holy Spirit is sent into their hearts to give them spiritual life and faith Gal 4:4-6

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

The Spirit works faith in ones heart, in fact faith is a fruit of the Spirit Gal 5 22

The Holy Spirit is given to those who believe

John 7:38–39 (NASB 2020) — 38 The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ ” 39 But this He said in reference to the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Those whom Christ died for and redeemed, He for them won the judicial right for them to be translated from the Kingdom of darkness Col 1:12-14

12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
This deliverance from power of darkness is also deliverance from unbelief.
John Gill comments on Col 1:13

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness,.... That is, from the power of Satan; see Acts 26:18, who, though once an angel of light, is now darkness itself, and is reserved in chains of darkness; he is a ruler of the darkness of this world; his kingdom is a kingdom of darkness; and he blinds the minds of them that believe not, keeps them in darkness, and increases the natural darkness of their minds; he delights in works of darkness, and tempts men to them; and his everlasting state and portion will be blackness of darkness: his power over men, in a state of unregeneracy, which he usurps, and is suffered to exercise, is very great; he works effectually in them, and leads them captive at his will; and nothing less than the power of God, who is stronger than the strong man armed, can deliver out of his hands; and which is at least one part of the mercy for which thanks are here given; See Gill on Luke 22:53; with the Jews, one of the names of Satan is "darkness" (e). Moreover, the darkness of sin, ignorance, and unbelief, with which God's elect, while in a state of nature, are surrounded, and, as it were shut up and imprisoned, so that they have not the least spark of true spiritual light and knowledge, may be also meant; under the power of which they are to such a degree, that they know nothing of God in Christ, of the way of salvation by him, or of the work of the Spirit on their souls, or of the doctrines of the Gospel in an experimental manner; and so they continue, till, by an almighty power, they are turned from darkness to light; when, by powerful grace, they are plucked as brands out of the burning, and delivered from wrath to come, and from that utter darkness of misery and destruction their ways of sin and darkness led and exposed them to. This deliverance is wrought out for them in the effectual calling, when they are internally called, and powerfully brought out of this darkness, by introducing light into them, revealing Christ in them, causing the prince of darkness to flee from them, and the scales of darkness and blindness to fall from their eyes; and which is both an instance or the wonderful grace of God, and of his almighty power, and in which lies in part the saints' meetness for the inheritance; for these words are, in some sort, explanative of the former; for so long as a person is under the power of darkness, he cannot be meet for an inheritance which is in light: it follows, as another branch of this mercy, for which thanks are given,

The sin of unbelief has been taken away by the death of Christ ! Its been blotted out Col 2:13-15

13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

It turned away ungodliness for the elect, which is unbelief Rom 11:26-27

26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

. If every sin of every believer has been atoned for, would it not be right to conclude that the sin of unbelief, that sin which for so long kept the believer from God and in a dead spiritual state, has also been taken out of the way? And if not, then the sin of unbelief has not been done away with for the elect and there is no atonement for it. The penalty it has incurred has not been paid and therefore no one can possibly come to God, for the sin of unbelief reigns supreme, being untouched by the blood of Christ. How ludicrous all this is in light of what God says in His Holy Word. Has not Christ suffered the penalty of all the sins of the elect, including the sin of unbelief? If so, how could anyone for whom Christ has suffered, possibly die in unbelief and dead to God when the penalty for that very sin of unbelief has already been paid by the Lord Jesus?

Again Christs Death for us redeemed us from the iniquity of unbelief along with other iniquity, all iniquity

14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Here are some of our iniquities He redeemed us from Titus 3:3

3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

The word disobedient also means to not believe, to be unpersuaded. Its the greek word apeithēs:
impersuasible, not compliant, disobedient, contumacious

Its made with the word peithō:

persuade
  1. to persuade, i.e. to induce one by words to believe
    1. to be persuaded, to suffer one's self to be persuaded; to be induced to believe: to have faith: in a thing
      1. to believe
      2. to be persuaded of a thing concerning a person
    2. to listen to, obey, yield to, comply with
  2. to trust, have confidence, be confident

Its believed here Acts 17:1-4

Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

The word believed here is in the passive voice , so they were caused to believe !

So Jesus death redeems them He died for from unbelief, disobedience as well as other corruptions of the flesh.

Paul testifies to the fact that Christ Jesus saved him for ignorance and unbelief 1 Tim 1:12-15

12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. Please notice instead of condemnation Paul was given mercy for his ignorance and unbelief. Others of the non elect are condemned as unbelievers Jn 3:18

14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. Note Faith came because of and with Grace to Paul

15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

So his testimony is he was saved from, out of unbelief and ignorance, a sinners saved from his sins.

Scions commentary on 1 Tim 1:14

1 Tim 1:14 (KJB)And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. Exceeding abundant - Super abounded, overflow, exceedingly abounded Here the apostle Paul states that even though he was guilty of murder and hatred against the Christians, when he became saved, the grace of our Lord was exceedingly sufficient to forgive Paul of his sins and to remove them making him able to work in the ministry. Even though Paul had persecuted the church, the grace Paul received was also overflowing with faith and love but which is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ and not the law or any type of works. This verse is a connection from verse 13 when he spoke of persecuting the church in unbelief and the grace of Christ took him from unbelief to belief. So this verse tells us that no one’s sin is beyond the salvation and mercy of God. So don’t stop praying for the one in your life who seems to only live for trouble and sin. https://www.scionofzion.com/1_timothy_1_11_15.htm

I just wanted to share my view on this

Everyone starts out as a citizen of God's kingdom. As children, we know no arrogance. We know our dependency from our parents, we trust in them, we love them and we enjoy their love.
That's why Jesus taught that the Kingdom of God belongs to children and urged us to become as them. (Matthew 18:2-5).
It is from that position that we degrade ourselves through our bad choices.

In the parable of the Prodigal Son, the starting point is the son living in the house of the Father. Isn't that true?
Salvation of the prodigal son implies a return to the House of the Father... to the Garden of Eden, so to speak. That's why in the vision of the New Jerusalem, where people live in the presence of God, the author of the Book of Revelation sees again the tree of life.

Let me share with you and our readers this text that I regard as sacred:

"O Son of Spirit!
I created thee rich,
why dost thou bring thyself down to poverty?
Noble I made thee,
wherewith dost thou abase thyself?
Out of the essence of knowledge I gave thee being,
why seekest thou enlightenment from anyone beside Me?
Out of the clay of love I molded thee,
how dost thou busy thyself with another?
Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find Me standing within thee,
mighty, powerful and self-subsisting."

(Bahá'u'lláh, The Hidden Words)

So, dear @brightfame52, Calvin's view of humans total depravity is a partial view of the picture.
Inasmuch as our nature lead us to make bad choices and sin, God has also provided us with a noble, divine nature that can respond to His call, repent and develop into a holy man or woman. We are called in the Bible "gods", because we have this godly origin and nature as a gift from God.

No matter how much we sin, God's grace is reaching out to us.
No matter if we find ourselves yearning for the pods of the swine, or in the midst of the dark belly of a whale in the ocean: God's grace reaches us even there.

Calvin should have talked about our total potential for depravity or holiness.

While Calvin cried "You are evil, evil, evil", Bahá'u'lláh shouted "God created you noble, rich,... and even when you have debased yourself, I am still within you, mighty and powerful, ready to redeem you and raise you to what you were created for"

Calvin must be in heaven now, and must have learned from Christ what he failed to understand on this earth.
May God bless Calvin forever.

@Pancho Frijoles

Thats regeneration, a new creation, everyone Christ redeems is created new, then they repent and believe. However prior to that, man is totally depraved and cant repent, cant believe, his old nature wont allow that.
