Mark 16:16~"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Read it and weep Tom
Wash away sins by calling on the Lord

Romans 10:13 (ESV) — 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Acts 2:21 (ESV) — 21 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

He does not say that baptiism forgives sin or saveso
He does say that he who is baptized will be saved. That is like saying he who shows up at this dealer here in Atlanta gets the car of his choice. Does showing up earn the car? No. But do you get the car if you don't show up? Again, no.
Sorry the meaning of faith is not be baptized

John 5:24 (KJV 1900) — 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
No, the meaning of faith is to trust and obey the one you call Lord. He said, if you love me (believe in me), obey me. If you don't obey Him, then He is not your Lord, and if He isn't your Lord, then He can't and won't save you.
Faith without action is dead, and dead faith cannot save you.
Faith proceeds any act it leads to

And it is saving
Wrong. Faith is made alive by the actions we take that God says lead to receiving His salvation. And this living faith must precede reception of salvation as Eph 2:8 says.
Saves from what

Remission of sin, reception of the Holy spirit and eternal life are granted upon faith
Again, faith is exhibited in what we do. And 1 Pet 3:21 says that we are saved, (our sins are removed, "...not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience...") through baptism.
Nope I know what you stated

And scripture does not say that only happens during water baptism
Sure it does.
Mark 16:16 - He who believes and is baptized will be saved.
Acts 2:38 - Repent and be baptized in order to receive forgiveness of sins.
John 3:5 - No one can enter the Kingdom of God except he be born of water and the Spirit.
Gal 3:26-27 - All who have been baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ and are now children of God.
Um The gentiles, the Samaritans , the disciples of John acts 19 are not one event
The Samaritans disprove your basic doctrine as has been noted previously.
The disciples of John were not saved before they met Paul, and so were saved when Paul baptized them, and then received the miraculous working of the Spirit when Paul laid hands on them. They don't advance your cause.
The Gentiles are not an exception to the commands stated in Scripture. This is the only event that might even seem to be an exceptional event, but when analyzed properly reveals that it is not an exception after all.
The bible never uses the phrase fell in to note reception of the spirit

It simply notes they received the spirit

The gentiles had their heart purified by faith

repentance that issues in life

Received the Holy Spirit

the same gift promised in Acts 2:38
Sorry, but we are told, as you have pointed out, that the Spirit comes to dwell in our hearts. He is a spring of living water from within us. But Cornelius did not yet receive this indwelling, because the Spirit fell ON him, not into him. The indwelling, the Spirit welling up within him in life and forgiveness, was received when he was baptized by Peter, just as Acts 2:38, Matt 28:19, and 1 Pet 3:21 say.

He does say that he who is baptized will be saved. That is like saying he who shows up at this dealer here in Atlanta gets the car of his choice. Does showing up earn the car? No. But do you get the car if you don't show up? Again, no.

So what all who believe are saved

John 5:24 (KJV 1900) — 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

What it does not say is he who believes but is not baptized cannot be saved

No, the meaning of faith is to trust and obey the one you call Lord. He said, if you love me (believe in me), obey me. If you don't obey Him, then He is not your Lord, and if He isn't your Lord, then He can't and won't save you.
Faith without action is dead, and dead faith cannot save you.

Which does not mean be baptized

And faith saves and precedes water baptism

John 5:24 (KJV 1900) — 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Wrong. Faith is made alive by the actions we take that God says lead to receiving His salvation. And this living faith must precede reception of salvation as Eph 2:8 says.
Sorry scripture is not wrong

John 5:24 (KJV 1900) — 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Again, faith is exhibited in what we do. And 1 Pet 3:21 says that we are saved, (our sins are removed, "...not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience...") through baptism.

Which still precedes water baptism and saves

John 5:24 (KJV 1900) — 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Gal 3:26-27 - All who have been baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ and are now children of God.

Water baptism is not mentioned in Gal 3:26 or john 3:5

You assume it

and all who believe have eternal life

John 5:24 (KJV 1900) — 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

and repentance/faith brings remission of sin

Acts 10:43 (KJV 1900) — 43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

Acts 5:31 (KJV 1900) — 31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

The Samaritans disprove your basic doctrine as has been noted previously.
Hardly they were water baptised had not received the spirit and Simon appeared unsaved

Nope they received the spirit when they had hands layed on them

That is the only time we read about the Spirit coming upon them

and sorry it is only your imagination which holds the gentiles were unsaved, unforgiven and without the spiritg until water baptised

Again absurd falling into or in is not a phrase ever used in scripture

Receiving the spirit is the phrase used to indicate the spirit coming to reside inside

John 7:38–39 (KJV 1900) — 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Here we have indwelling referred to as receiving the Spirit

here also

John 14:15–17 (KJV 1900) — 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

That verse doesn't need to say it. It is said in Acts 2:38, John 3:5, Matt 28:19, Mark 16:16, 1 Pet 3:21, etc.

Faith is not faith if it does not include obedient action.
Sorry scripture is not wrong

John 5:24 (KJV 1900) — 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

faith is alive before it acts or it does not act
Repeating this one verse over and over does not make it say what you want it to say. Belief is NOT intellectual assent. It is NOT passive, mental only, internal, or invisible. Belief is not belief if it does not include obedient action, because the word for belief here is the Greek word "pistis" which means faith.
Which still precedes water baptism and saves

John 5:24 (KJV 1900) — 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Wrong! Baptism is part of the faith that saves. Without being washed in baptism, sin is not cut from us by the Holy Spirit (Col 2:11-14) nor do we die to sin (Rom 6:1-7).
Water baptism is not mentioned in Gal 3:26 or john 3:5

You assume it
No, I do not assume it. There is only one baptism in the NT Church (Eph 4:4-6), and that one baptism is something man does (Matt 28:19), and is in water (Acts 8:36, 1 Pet 3:21). Thus, when baptism is mentioned in relation to salvation, it is water baptism that is in mind.
and all who believe have eternal life

John 5:24 (KJV 1900) — 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Acts 5:31 (KJV 1900) — 31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Wait, wait, wait. I thought it was just "belief" that was required. Now you add repentance also? You have changed your story. (I am laughing at you.)
All who believe/have faith/obey the Gospel have eternal life. No one has faith that does not repent, confess Jesus as Lord, and submit to baptism.
Hardly they were water baptised had not received the spirit and Simon appeared unsaved
Simon had shallow roots that were about to be plucked out (see the parable of the soils), but he had believed the Gospel (making him saved according to you) and been baptized (making him saved according to Scripture). They had not yet received any miraculous gifts, but they had received the indwelling, because all who are saved receive the indwelling without the laying on of hands or miraculous signs.
Again absurd falling into or in is not a phrase ever used in scripture
Exactly my point.
Receiving the spirit is the phrase used to indicate the spirit coming to reside inside
No, it is the phrase used to indicate the reception of miraculous gifts.

Indeed it does, but as pointed out many times, that is not the only way the Spirit is received.

Again, not the only way the Spirit is received.

Sorry but this proves that false

Acts 15:7–9 (ESV) — 7 And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. 8 And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, 9 and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith.

How was their heart cleansed

it was not by water baptism'

and they were given the spirit before water baptism

The same gift as recorded at Acts 2:38

Acts 11:16–18 (ESV) — 16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?” 18 When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”

Acts 10:44–47 (KJV 1900) — 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

Did the Jews not receive the Holy Ghost

The gentiles received the same gift which you affirmed included the indwelling of the Spirit

Acts 15:9; Acts 26:18
Those are all great BENEFITS of faith. But they do not begin to tell us what faith is or when it is required.
Faith is the substance of things we hope for, it is the evidence of things we cannot see (Heb 11:1). Faith that does not produce action is dead (James 2:26). Faith that does not produce action cannot save us (James 2:14). Faith is made perfect/complete by the actions that it incites. If there is no action, then there is no faith; it is dead/meaningless/worthless/ineffective. But if it has action, then it is alive/meaningful/valuable/effective.
Eph 2:8 tells us clearly that faith (active and alive) is required before salvation is received, because it is the conduit through which salvation is delivered to us by God.
Not if you believe scripture See all the verses listed above
None of the verses you posted negate Rom 6:1-7 or Col 2:11-14, or Matt 28:19, Mark 16:16, or Acts 22:16, or any of the other passages that tell us we are saved, our sins are cut from us, our soul is resurrected, and we are united with Jesus during baptism.

The gentiles received the same gift which you affirmed included the indwelling of the Spirit
They did not receive the indwelling of the Spirit when He fell ON them. They were not yet in Christ, because they had not yet had their sins cut from them or their souls resurrected with Christ. They had received the miraculous gifts of the Spirit just as the Apostles and the others of the 120 did on Pentecost. Same gift (tongues and praise) on Pentecost as in the house of Cornelius.
Sorry you have rejected the greater real baptism of the Spirit in favor of a sign

Rejected the baptism of Jesus for the baptism of man

Further seeing as you quote John 3:5 where born of water according to you is water baptism

then born of the Spirit must be spirit baptism
Wrong. We are born of the Spirit during water baptism as is stated explicitly in Col 2:11-14 and Rom 6:1-7. One must be born of both water and the Spirit to enter the Kingdom of God as Jesus says in John 3:5. There is only one baptism in the NT Church. That one baptism must include water or 1 Pet 3:21 becomes a lie. It must also include the Spirit or John 3:5 becomes a lie. It must be both or Col 2 and Rom 6 become lies.
You are trying therefore to regenerate man by water without the spirit

That will never cause man to be born from above
Of course we cannot be regenerated by water without the Spirit. I have never said anything of the kind.

There is no mention of water in Rom 6 or col 2

Matt 128:19 does not state water baptism saves or remits sin

It is something we should do but it effects neither salvation or remission of sin

Acts 22:16 is relating to calling on the lord

Romans 10:13 (ESV) — 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

and of course no verse states you cannot be saved or forgiven unless water baptized

Sorry you are in denial here

The gentiles received the same gift which you affirmed included the indwelling of the Spirit

hello

Why do you ignore this offering only denial

Of course we cannot be regenerated by water without the Spirit. I have never said anything of the kind.
Sorry water is not mentioned in Col 2 or Romans 6 for that matter

and you ignored yet another argument

seeing as you quote John 3:5 where born of water according to you is water baptism

then born of the Spirit must be spirit baptism

If you hold water baptism is the only baptism

then you have denied the possibility of being born of the Spirit

John 3:6–8 (ESV) — 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

you do not see water baptism there

Tom,
Do you believe that all Scripture is inspired by God?
Do you believe that there are no errors or conflicts in Scripture?

Doug, since Truther can't seem to locate the verses I asked for (in the communion thread), maybe you can help him. Where does the Bible say that a person gets saved, born again, forgiven, at or after water baptism?
Please give us the verses that show us this position.
I gave him the following eleven passages (below) that show Biblically, a person must be born again, saved, a believer, a Christian, have his sins forgiven, (all are synonomous terms). etc. BEFORE he is baptized.

1. Acts 2:41 "... those who had received his word (salvation, believed, forgiven) were baptized.
2. Mark 16:16 "He who has believed (born again) and has been baptized ... "
3. Mat. 28:19 "Go and make disciples (believers, Christians Acts 11:26) of all nations, baptizing them ..."
4. Acts 8:37 "If you believe with all your heart (new birth), you may (be baptized).
5. Acts 10:45 "The Holy Spirit fell on them (He doesn't fall on nonbelievers). After that, Peter had them baptized. Verse 47
6. Acts 19:4-5 First they believed in Jesus and were born again. Then, after that, in verse 5, they were baptized.
7. Acts 8:12 First they believed Philip's preaching (they were saved). Then, after that, they were baptized.
8. Acts 9:4-5 Saul or Paul is struck down by Jesus, immediately becomes a believer, a Christian, a disciple. Three days later, he gets baptized.
9. Acts 16:14-15 Lydia receives and believes Paul's message, along with her household. Later, they get baptized.
10. Acts 16:30-33 The jailer and his house believe (which is all they needed to do to be saved, according to Paul) Paul's message. Later, they get baptized.
11. Acts 18:8 When Crispus, all his house, and many other Corinthians heard Paul, they were believing first and being baptized after.

For the record, the following terms are synonymous: Believer, born again, regenerated, saved, Christian, disciple, a Jew inwardly, redeemed, "In Christ", the remnant, a new creation, the new man, sons of Abraham, the Israel of God, grafted into the olive tree, repentant, forgiven, and I'm sure there's more.

Proof of your error

tongues was the initial sign someone had been indwelt by the Spirit in those early days of the building of the church

Your handling of the gentiles reception of the spirit is contrary to what we see above and below

Note also the gentiles received the same gift as had the Jews

Acts 15:7–9 (ESV) — 7 And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. 8 And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, 9 and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith.

Acts 11:15–17 (ESV) — 15 As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning. 16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?”

You have affirmed the Jews received the indwelling. The gentiles received the same

Acts 10:44–48 (ESV) — 44 While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. 45 And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. 46 For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared, 47 “Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.

Wrong. We are born of the Spirit during water baptism as is stated explicitly in Col 2:11-14 and Rom 6:1-7. One must be born of both water and the Spirit to enter the Kingdom of God as Jesus says in John 3:5. There is only one baptism in the NT Church. That one baptism must include water

there is more but I am tired

To say that they had not received the indwelling Holy Spirit, forgiveness of sins, or that their souls were not resurrected with Christ (which is the born again experience) is preposterous and a total denial of what we know from the scripture. Show me the verse that says that the Holy Spirit falls on nonbelievers, i.e. those whose sins have not been forgiven, nor have they been born again. Peter had just told them in Acts 10:43 that those who believe in Jesus DO receive forgiveness of sins. They were ready, willing, believing, and chomping at the bit, to do whatever was necessary to follow God, as was Cornelius himself. Obviously, while listening to Peter's words about Jesus, the Holy Spirit saw that they believed the message and He miraculously intervened by giving each of them forgiveness of sins, the new birth, and yes, the indwelling Holy Spirit. Acts 10:47 tells us that they received the Holy Spirit, just as Peter himself did, so He was definitely indwelling them. Verse 48 says that they were baptized, but it doesn't say that at the time they were baptized, that they received forgiveness of sins, the new birth, the indwelling of the Spirit.

Here is how you wash away your sins calling on the name of the Lord...

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,...

Now you know.

Yep His claims are quite preposterous

Clearly the gentiles had all that is associated with salvation

No, not even a little bit

If Peter commanded Tom this...

Would Tom obey him?
