Excellent Discussion on OSAS

Honestly, I worry about why @Blessed posted that song.
I listened to it and I don't understand the concern.
I don't understand why it's necessary to believe in OSAS to feel secure...
I don't understand why abiding in Christ is not sufficient for being secure in Him.

Maybe our churches are not properly teaching the Christian faith?
That's a lot of "I" statements.

@Doug Brents

Doug, you might not be reading something into the scripture in Luke 15, but you certainly are not rightly dividing the scripture by giving them the proper sense that would flow with all scriptures.

The word dead is not limited to being dead spiritually speaking which you are doing with Luke 15:24.

Luke 15:24

“For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.”

Please notice" "For this my son was dead, and is alive again". One is not born again, or made alive, and then lose that life and must be born once again, etc. But, one can be a child of God and sin and end up among the congregation of the dead, without the evidence of true spiritual life and just go through the motion of being a son of God, yet their heart is not right with God and need to repent and do their first work. Example would be a great help.

Proverbs 21:16

“The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.”

James 5:20

“Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”

God's children at times wander out of the way of understanding, we all have been there to certain degrees, none are exempt from doing this.

When we sin and depart from the straight and narrow way and some good brother is sent from God to convert us back into the way, we should walk in, and when we are converted, then KNOW that a brother, (a sinning brother) has been saved (practically speaking) from living in a state, or among the congregation of the dead, not enjoying God's best for his children~I have been there, have you? Do not answer, I know most have, if they are honest with themselves and before others.
If one "wanders out of the way of understanding" then at one point he was IN the way of understanding. You cannot leave what you were not once a part of. And as Heb 6 also says, one who has tasted the Heavenly Gift, and been a partaker of the Holy Spirit was, at one time, most certainly saved. But both of these passages are clear that the people of whom Scripture speaks have turned away from all of that back into sin and condemnation.

James 5 is equally clear, as you try to hedge around, that the person who was once one of the brothers/sisters has turned back into unrepentant sin and become lost again, a sinner, one dead in trespasses.

In addition, 2 Pet 2:20 is very clear that there are some who have escaped the defilement of the world, only to fall back into entrapment in it. Do you think that God is so inept that His rescue of someone from defilement in the world would be only a figment of their imagination? Are they just deluding themselves that they have escaped, but God didn't really save them? No. Scripture is clear that they have escaped, completely, totally and fully free from defilement of the world. Yet they, of their own volition, turn back into the cares of the world, and are entrapped in sin and death. Peter goes on to say that it would have been better for them if they had not ever been saved in the first place; for to be free and then lost again leaves you knowing that you once were saved, and could have still been saved if you had not turned away.

It’s possible, of course, for a person who once believed in Christ for eternal life to become confused. Even though he has eternal life, he no longer realizes it.

Confused believers need to hear the clear gospel again, for they have forgotten the simple message of eternal life. They need a reminder to regain the assurance they once had.

That's what DC talk is saying to to me.

DC Talk's song "What If I Stumble?" is a Christian rock track that explores the fear and uncertainty of falling short in one's faith. The song begins with a quote from Brennan Manning, an American author and public speaker, that highlights the importance of living a life that aligns with one's faith to avoid leading others astray.

So not to worry, Jesus has your back.

I agree, thinking you can lose your salvation could defiantly lead people astray from accepting the gospel.

Thinking a person cannot forfeit their salvation may lead to a lifestyle that is not in keeping with the
Christian faith.

It is a teaching that was NEVER in the church till a couple of hundred years ago.

If a person cannot ACCEPT the gospel,,,then they should not become Christian.
Christian is not a title...it's a way of life.

I posted the following to you a couple of posts ago and will post it again.
§This is what Jesus said.....not me:

Luke 14:27-30
27 "Whoever
does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot * be My disciple.
28 "For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first
sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?
29 "Otherwise *, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule
him,
30 saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.'

God's love has a lot to do with salvation.
Of course. If God didn't love His creation...He wouldn't care to save them.
But are YOU supposed to do anything at all?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 KJV
Right. But you never explained what believe means.
Remember Jesus doesn’t say, “I knew you, but then you fell away and lost eternal life.” Instead He says, “I never knew you”
Who did Jesus say never knew Him?
You could read Matthew 7:21, 23 again for the answer.

And, again, you're adding to scripture.

Also you can not grudge my salvation. Who are you?
Please post the sentence where I judged your salvation.

Who am I?
Someone that has studied the bible and church history and OSAS was NEVER taught in the early church and came about only in the 1800's.

Incorrect teachings are dangerous.

Here are some other modern-day groups that do not teach biblical truth:

JEHOVAH WITTNESSES
7TH DAY ADVENTISTS
CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATER DAY SAINTS
SCIENTOLOGY
IGLESIA NI CRISTO

and others....

Why is one afraid of falling if he's following the teachings of Jesus?

1 John 5:2-3
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we
keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome
.

The way I see it, a chosen one (elect) will never abandon Jesus.

opinions don 't mean too much when it comes to understanding God's wish for us.

Everyone's got to crawl
And you know that
You're up against a wall
It's about to fall
Everyone's got to crawl
And you know that

[Pre-Chorus 3]
I hear You whispering my name
(God says)
My love for You will never change
(Never change)

[Chorus]
What if I stumble
What if I fall?
What if I lose my step
And I make fools of us all?
Will the love continue
When my walk becomes a crawl?
What if I stumble
And what if I fall?
DC Talk is the best. Thanks for posting the video.

How about some verses to back up what you're stating....

Don't matter what DC says...
it matters what Jesus said, Paul and the other writers of the NT.

One of the real issues for so many Chrisitans, is that they dont realize they have eternal life, and that this is not temporary.

WHO= are the Christians who dont understand= that Jesus is Eternal Life, and that He is inside ALL the born again, and they are In Him?

1.) Anyone who believes they can lose their salvation.

2.) Everyone who wants to post another Thread because they are obsessed with "OSAS".

Confused believers need to hear the clear gospel again, for they have forgotten the simple message of eternal life.

Real faith has to be maintained.
This is why Paul said we are to prove ourselves ... that we are in the Faith.

JUDE says, we are to contend for the real faith.......and that means we are to "cast down imaginations" that will try to bring you into self righteousness........and it also means we are to take a stand against False Theology, that denies "Justifcation by Faith".......or any type of "predestined" Theology, which teaches that you have no free will and God might just choose you burn in the lake of Fire, before you are born.

What helps in our understanding of the assurance of our salvation is lessening to the Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 1:8-12 (NKJV) 8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, 9 who has saved us and called [us] with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, 10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, [who] has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 to which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 12 For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.

Well I have faith in you. You can get over it. We got to pray just to make it today.
Stay strong in the faith brother.

I agree Selah...
but do you understand what verse 12 means?
What has been committed to Jesus?
