Excellent Discussion on OSAS

You are missing the point. It's not about power to attach but power from the proper connection.
So unbelievers are given the power to spiritually self attach themselves to the Spiritual Vine?
Based on outward appearances, it may be difficult to tell genuine believers (connected in vital unity with Christ as the vine) from those who have merely attached themselves to Christ as the vine. Time will tell the difference, because the genuine believer attached to the vine has a spiritual and vital connection with the vine which results in bearing fruit. A false professor may appear to have the same connection but does not bear fruit, and it’s the lack of fruit that shows a branch is not receiving the fruit-bearing energy that comes from a spiritual and vital connection with Christ as the vine. Apart from Christ we can do nothing. Regardless of how attached this branch may appear to be on the surface, it's lacking the one absolute evidence of a spiritual and vital attachment - fruit.
You went from talking about "self attaching" to "attached". I'm asking about your "self attaching" statement, not about anything else.

All this is not answering my question.
It does not take spiritual power for "nominal" Christians to self-attach themselves to the vine. It takes spiritual power to produce fruit through a spiritual and vital connection with Christ as the vine. Branches that have that spiritual and vital connection with Christ as the vine bear fruit (apart from Christ we can do nothing) and branches that do not have that spiritual and vital connection with Christ as the vine do not bear fruit. Simple. I answered your question. It's just not what you wanted to hear.

So anyone anywhere (Muslims, Satanists, etc...) can self attach themselves to the Spiritual Vine all the time??? That's a wild scenario.

You are really missing my point. Not Muslims or Satanists (your wild scenario) but "nominal" or pseudo-Christians are self-attached to the vine. Judas Iscariot was a prime example.

Isn't faith the requirement to "connect" to the Vine? Also, why would that which is Spiritual allow a connection to that which is anti-spiritual?
Faith is required to have a spiritual and vital connection to the vine. Nominal or pseudo Christians attach themselves to Christ and can be seen mixed together with genuine Christians in various churches but they still lack that spiritual and vital connection to bear good fruit.

The Vine parable is not about Church attendance. There is no other way to connect to the Spiritual Vine other than faith. That eliminates any idea of false believers sneeking in and vitally attaching themselves to the Spiritual Vine.

I did not say it was about church attendance in of itself but "nominal" or pseudo Christians being mixed together with genuine Christians. You just don't get it. There are two types of connections with Christ as the vine. The spiritual and vital connection that bears fruit and the non-spiritual and non-vital connection that bears no fruit. Faith without works is dead. All genuine believers are fruitful but not all are equally fruitful. (Matthew 13:23) Those who produce no fruit at all are not truly converted.

So you would say it’s the ones who say lord lord and Jesus says to them I never knew you. It’s the ones who look the part on the outside ( think Pharisees in Jesus day) but on the inside are dead, the religionist.

Oh, they hear you, believe me ~ thy are hardening their hearts to the truth taught throughout the word of God. They are so disparately trying to isolate John 15 from other scriptures, that must be considered in order to preach the whole council of God faithfully, which they truly care little about.

What I do get is that the Bible calls tares the nonbelievers that are mixed in with believers. Since when are tares given the ability to self attach themselves to the Spiritual Vine???

Here is what I do know.

1- there are born again believers, theologian, scholars, pastors, teachers etc... on both sides of the issue
2- could it be the "ambiguity " was intentional ?
3- this could lead to the question- examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith
4- the warning passages make no sense if they are written to unbelievers
5- the warning passages are to the church and even Jesus does this in Revelation to the 7 churches
6- Its never about how one begins the race but finishes the race- to endure, persevere, continue etc....
7- many of Jesus parables are about the ones who finish, complete the building, have their lamps full, abiding, continuing etc...
8- we do know that many Greek words in the N.T. can have several meaning and the context will determine the intended meaning. What if this is the same principle with salvation and faith ?

Just some things to think about and personally I can argue both sides of the fence on this issue. But the one I can never reconcile is Eternal Life that in many places is given Jesus to believers- its not conditional or temporal life- it never ends.

hope this helps !!!

Yes, they who thought they had done wonderful works in the name of Jesus Christ, I'm sure they truly thought that they were connected to the True Vine, yet, they deny the Lord by what they taught, for the true gospel they had no love for, but truly rejected it with hatred toward it and those who preach the pure grace of God as much as they can preach it and with the light God has been pleased to impart to them. Our Lord said this concerning the days leading up to his second coming:

Matthew 24:5

“For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”

Men coming and preaching that Jesus IS INDEED the Christ, yet in their teachings they truly reject his doctrines that he himself taught while he was upon the earth. Do you think these MANY false prophets thought they were connected to the Vine? You better believe they did, yet they were wolves presenting themselves like sheep.

My Bible labels as tares those nonbelievers that are mixed in with believers. Read up on what happens to them in the Parable of the Wheat and Tares. Does your Bible say that they get attached to the Spiritual Vine?

see my last post and let me know your thoughts.

also try and look at the points without the lens of calvinism or arminianism. I know thats not easy to do since we all have our presuppositions.

thanks !

You seem like a person who appreciates God’s word.

Here is another scripture that teaches about those who are “in Christ” like those in John 15.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1

Question:

Do you believe those who are in Christ, who walk according to the flesh will remain in Christ?

John teaches us how to remain in Christ.

Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. 1 John 3:24

let me know what you think about my post 533. just some food for thought.

do you believe a child of God can walk continually according to the flesh?

ah, so we are under law. not under grace.

thank you
