the O.T thw spirit came upon them.. the N.T when we get saved the spirit is in us
Exodus 28:2 "And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty." Exodus 28:3 "And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted,
whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office."
is not the spirit of wisdom is God himself? let's see. When work began on the tabernacle of God, Bezaleel and Aholiab was filled with the spirit of God. Exodus 31:1 "And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying," Exodus 31:2 "See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:" Exodus 31:3 "
And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship," so, the spirit of Wisdom is God.
Exodus 31:6 "And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted
I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;"
and even up until the end of the Old Covenant, John the Baptist and his father was filled with the Spirit, Luke 1:15 "For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink;
and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb." NOTE: this is still under the OLD COVENANT/TESTAMENT. the Lord Jesus has not yet died. now John's father, Luke 1:57 "Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son." Luke 1:58 "And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her." Luke 1:59 "And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father." Luke 1:60 "And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John." Luke 1:61 "And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name." Luke 1:62 "And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called." Luke 1:63 "And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all." Luke 1:64 "
And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God." Luke 1:65 "And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea." Luke 1:66 "And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him." Luke 1:67 "
And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying," Luke 1:68 "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,"
so yes people in the OT was filled with the Holy Spirit. but permanently indwelling? no. The word “filled” simply means to be controlled by. and as coming upon, this is a figure of speech that the Holy Spirit was present in them. case in point, every prophet of the OT have this saying.... "and the Lord "CAMEUNTO ME", or similar wording ie, 1 Samuel 15:10 "Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying," or Jeremiah 1:4 "Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying," or Haggai 1:1 "In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,"
but here is the sticking POINT. all the OT prophets prophesied by God, they spoke his words, correct. now this 1 Peter 1:10 "Of which salvation
the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:" 1 Peter 1:11 "Searching what, or what manner of time
the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow." note, the Spirit of Christ is capitalized indicating the Holy Spirit.
where was the Spirit of Christ? answer IN, IN, IN, the prophets. meaning they was "FILLED", or Controlled by the Spirit, to speak his words. and the Spirit of Christ is the Holy Spirit. supportive scripture, 2 Peter 1:20 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation." 2 Peter 1:21 "
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."
so the Filling of the Holy Spirit was OT, but indwelling, don't think so. this would be a good topic to study.
be blessed in the Lord.
