The Plan of Salvation

Let’s go through 4 H’s. Honesty, Humility, Helpless, and Hope

H #1) You must be HONEST enough to admit you have sinned and broken God‘s commands. Understand in doing so this puts you in very great danger!

Romans 3:10 “there is none righteous, no not one.”

Romans 3:23 “…all have sinned…”

I John 1:8 “if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”

H #2) You must be HUMBLE enough to admit you deserve Hell when you die. One sin disqualifies us from Heaven, and we have all sinned more than once.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin [is] death”

Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

H #3) You must understand you are HELPLESS when it comes to you saving yourself from going to Hell when you die. There is nothing you can do to pay for your own sin.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Understand when I say HELPLESS it means you cannot surrender your life to Christ for salvation. You have no life to surrender. You are dead in trespasses and sins. You cannot yet make Jesus the Lord of your life because you have no life. Jesus will not be Lord of your life until He is Savior of your soul. You cannot turn from your sins because you are dead in your sins. You must see yourself HELPLESS at the Mercy of God. Now you are ready for

H # 4.) You are helpless but not hopeless. Your HOPE must be in Jesus, God’s Son and what he has done for you on the cross when He died there. Jesus is the only one that paid for your sins when he died on the cross. He was buried and arose again. You must ask Jesus to be your personal Savior and ask Jesus to save you from Hell. If you are depending on church membership to save you, that means you are not depending on Jesus to save you. If you are depending on the good deeds you do to save you, that means you are not depending on Jesus to save you. If you are depending on baptism to save you, that means you are not depending on Jesus to save you. It must be Jesus and what Jesus did for you on the cross that you are depending on to save you. Nothing else can go with this. Jesus is the only one who paid for your sins on the cross so Jesus is the only one who can save you.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

I Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but quickened by the Spirit.

Hebrews 10:12 But this man (JESUS) after he hath offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Ask Jesus to save you before it is too late: Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Another H is Hear.

Heb 3:7-9 Therefore, even as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you will hear his voice, (8) don’t harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness, (9) where your fathers tested me by proving me, and saw my deeds for forty years.

When I think about the gospel the verse that means the most for me is Jn 3:16.
Welcome to The Forum Martha. Yes John 3:16 gets mentioned a lot here.

GOSPEL
John 3:13–17
13 And yet no one has ever gone up to heaven, but there is One Who has come down from heaven—the Son of Man [Himself], Who is (dwells, has His home) in heaven.
14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert [on a pole], so must [so it is necessary that] the Son of Man be lifted up [on the cross],
15 In order that everyone who believes in Him [who cleaves to Him, trusts Him, and relies on Him] may not perish, but have eternal life and [actually] live forever!
16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
17 For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.

I like to tell people Jn 3:17 and 18 when I talk to them about Jesus love in Jn 3:16.

Without original sin and vicarious atonement, the Cross makes no sense as a plan of salvation.

These are the essential cornerstone elements of God's grace.

I would prefer Trust over Hope here as well.

I appreciate your comments here, and I agree that we must begin with an understanding that we are totally lost, helpless to save ourselves, and desperately in need of a savior. As I say, this is a great beginning, but you leave off before faith enters the picture. Forgive me, I know faith does not start with an "H", but what role does faith play in your understanding of the above, and what do you define faith to be?

Great question and I look forward to this discussion. :)

The Bible emphasizes the importance of faith and hope. Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see, while hope is the earnest anticipation that comes with believing something good. Biblical hope is built on faith, and we give intellectual assent to the facts of His substitutionary death and bodily resurrection, and then trust in His death and resurrection for our salvation. Romans 15:13 and Romans 12:12 encourage believers to rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and be constant in prayer. Hebrews 11:1 states that faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. The Bible does not say that hope brings on a miracle from the Lord, and all those acts were done in faith.

I agree that hope is separate from faith, and that hope is a great motivator. But I think that the translation of Heb 11:1 you used is improper. More properly, faith is the SUBSTANCE of what we hope for, and the EVIDENCE of what we do not see. Faith is not intellectual assent, but the actions we take in response to that intellectual assent (James 2:26).

It is not hope that we must have to please God, but faith. We must go beyond intellectual assent (which is where the demons stop) and add faith or our intellectual assent is meaningless.
