The Issue of Limited Atonement

He reconciled the world that does not have sin charged to it
He reconcile the "world" of Hebrews.

1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,
2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Romans 9:1–5.

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Galatians 4:4–5.

Genesis to Revelation is a story and history of God and His covenant people the children of Israel (Isaac, and Abraham.) God made no covenant with Gentiles. If He did we would know what this Gentile's name is.

This is the Gospel , the word of reconciliation the Apostles preached, so you better be in line with it friend. And stop worrying about ethnicity.

Verse 19 clearly speaks of the world

2 Corinthians 5:19 (NASB95) — 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

World never means the elect

Lastly, by the word world, in the Scripture in hand, is not meant the elect, nor any thing equivalent hereunto, is evident also from the context in the verse and words immediately following, where our Saviour goeth forward in his doctrine, thus: “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be…

The Work of Christ in John’s Gospel, Epistles, and Revelation
Most interpreters acknowledge that John’s statements indicate that God loves and Jesus died for the entire human race.20 John’s use of the word “world” in his writings precludes equating “world” with the elect or believers only…

A theology of limited atonement is contrary to scripture

1 John 2:2 (LEB) — 2 and he is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Were there truth in a theology of limited atonement then

1 John 2:2 would read, “He is the propitiation for our [elect] sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of those who comprise the world of elect people.”

Verse 19 clearly speaks of the world

Correct, yet its a distinct world from the rest of the world, this world of people dont have sin charged to them. Read the verse carefully 2 Cor 5:19

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

So its limited, for many in the world have their sins against them

Sorry, but the word world never references the elect

And perhaps you should read the verse in its context.

2 Corinthians 5:17–21 (LEB) — 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come. 18 And all these things are from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ, and who has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as if God were imploring you through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made the one who did not know sin to be sin on our behalf, in order that we could become the righteousness of God in him.

Both Christ and his apostles participate in a ministry of reconciliation and work to that end. Reconciliation, however, is also dependent upon the individual who, as you see here, is begged to be reconciled.

The world in 2 Cor 5:19 is a world without sin being charged to it. Thats not everyone. Besides Paul did address them at corinth as elect or chosen 1 Cor 1:26-27

26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

The word chosen eklegomai :

to pick out, choose, to pick or choose out for one's self

  1. choosing one out of many, i.e. Jesus choosing his disciples
  2. choosing one for an office
  3. of God choosing whom he judged fit to receive his favours and separated from the rest of mankind to be peculiarly his own and to be attended continually by his gracious oversight
    1. i.e. the Israelites

Jesus used that same word about the elect Mark 13:20

And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.

So thats the citizens of that world in 2 Cor 5:19, the called and chosen. Remember they dont have sin imputed to them.

You failed to deal with this key point.

You ignored the plain fact the passage teaches the work of Christ in the reconciliation of the world also requires a response from man

That Paul begs for such a response is contrary to your theology of irresistible grace.

The time for atonement occurred before Jesus went to the cross and died. If the world was to be atoned He would have prayed for them as High Priest but He didn't. The world is without a prayer.

9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. John 17:9.

This is why Saul says:

Christ died for all.

Hebrews 2:9 (LEB) — 9 but we see Jesus, for a short time made lower than the angels, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that apart from God he might taste death on behalf of everyone.

2 Corinthians 5:15 (LEB) — 15 And he died for all, in order that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the one who died for them and was raised.

A ransom for all, as God desires the salvation of all people

1 Timothy 2:3–6 (LEB) — 3 This is good and acceptable before God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and human beings, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony at the proper time,

He was therefore making propitiation for all the world's sin

1 John 2:2 (LEB) — 2 and he is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Christ is therefore a savior for all the world

1 John 4:14 (LEB) — 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

Titus 2:11 (LEB) — 11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people,

1 Timothy 4:10 (LEB) — 10 For to this end we labor and suffer reproach, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of believers.

Its dealt with the world in 2 Cor 5:19 is a world without sin charged to it, thats enough right there to know its limited in some sense. You do realize that many people are in this world in general condemned and dying in their sins charged to them. Do you need scripture for that ? So the imperative in Vs 20 isnt to the world in general, but to them already reconciled to God, and new creatures See vs 17-18

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

18 ;And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

Thats the people Paul is writing this letter to when he writes Vs 20

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

This is not Paul preaching out in front of the marta station downtown Atlanta to everyone lol

Israel is central to the whole of Scripture, and when I say "Scripture" I am referring to the Law, the Psalms, and the Prophets. AND in these Scriptures Israel is the central actors in relation to their three covenants of salvation with God. The first being the Abraham Covenant which according to Scripture is between God, Abram the Hebrew (Gen. 14:13), and Abram's Hebrew seed, a people later to be called the children of Jacob - who was the third patriarch in Abram's family with his father born of two Hebrew parents named Isaac, who was also himself born of two Hebrew parents, Abram and Sarai (Gen. 17.)

The New Testament writings are NOT prophecies of the Hebrew prophets, but are a majority of letters by Jewish Christians who were born-again by the Holy Spirit of Promise PROMISED TO ISRAEL by the prophet Joel in chapter 2 of his "book" of prophecies concerning Israel who was prophet sent by God to the two southern kingdom tribes: Judah and Benjamin.

The gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) were written to and for the Hebrew people (Israel) which documents the fulfillment of Hebrew Scripture prophecies and outright declarations by the Hebrew prophets - including Moses - that record the life and activities of this prophesied Messiah, Savior, Deliverer, and King of Israel.

The epistles or letters by several Jewish Christians who were born-again on the day of the Jewish Feast of Harvest, also known as Pentecost - the name derived from the fifty days from resurrection to this Feast and these letters are mainly born-again Hebrew men who discuss and share their understandings of the New Covenant era Israel found itself in since the day of Pentecost through reading and study of the Old Testament Hebrew Scripture.

The Revelation is a "book" authored by one of Jesus' disciples late in his life that records events prophesied to take place in the days and years before Israel's Messiah and King, Jesus Christ, returns to defeat Israel's enemies, His enemies, and God's enemies and set to sit on David's throne forever to rule as the rightful king of Israel.

Thus, the whole of what we call Bible is a record of God's acts and His dealings with one people born from Abraham who are the Elect, the Saints, the Holy Nation, the Bride and Church of the Living God.
There is no covenant in the Hebrew Scripture between God and non-covenant Gentiles and as a result of this truth, Gentiles are outside the covenants and protection and blessings of the God of Abraham and the God of Israel.
I challenge anyone to provide Scripture from the Old Testament of Law, Psalms, and Prophets that record covenant between God and Gentiles including terms of covenant and the name of this Gentile God made covenant with.
So, tell me, what is this Gentile's name everyone claims God made covenant with?

Thus, when reading and studying Scripture coming to the truth of the knowledge of the Son of God Israel is the central people and everything in Scripture is a record of God dealing with this ONE people born from Abraham, including his descendants born from Ishmael and Esau. It should also be noted that after the death of Abraham's half-sister and wife, Abraham married again and although it is not stated in Scripture, it is not beyond reason to conclude Abraham had other children through this union with a new wife.
2 Corinthians 5:15 (LEB) — 15 And he died for all, in order that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the one who died for them and was raised.
Christ died to and for the children of Israel who were under the Law of Moses in the desert at the time of the Tabernacle.

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Galatians 4:4–5.

26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. Romans 11:26–27.

The New Covenant:
Parties:
The House of Israel (ten northern kingdom tribes), and the House of Judah (two southern kingdom tribes.) There are no non-Hebrew Gentiles named, mentioned, or included in this covenant.

31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD,
That I will make a new covenant
With the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers
In the day that I took them by the hand
To bring them out of the land of Egypt;
Which my covenant they brake,
Although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel;
After those days, saith the LORD,
fI will put my law in their inward parts,
And write it in their hearts;
And will be their God,
And they shall be my people.
34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying,
Know the LORD:
For they shall all know me,
From the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD:
For I will forgive their iniquity,
And I will remember their sin no more.
Jeremiah 31:31–34.
He was therefore making propitiation for all the world's sin
1 John 2:2 (LEB) — 2 and he is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
The Greek word "kosmos" translated "world" is in context to the Hebrew people and refers to those who are in covenant with God, or the "world" of Hebrews.
Christ is therefore a savior for all the world

1 John 4:14 (LEB) — 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

As Scripture records God is shown to be a God who saves through covenant. Mainly, the Mosaic Covenant is which God commanded a mechanism through which under the sacrificial system of the Ceremonial Law an animal was slain to temporarily atone for the sins of the children of Israel. Later, God sends His own Son, a lamb of God, whom He slays as a substitutionary sacrifice to atone finally and forever in this ONE sacrifice the sins of the children of Israel under the Law.

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Galatians 4:4–5.

and

4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth
the adoption,
and the glory,
and the covenants,
and the giving of the law,
and the service of God,
and the promises;
5 Whose are the fathers,
and of whom as concerning the flesh
Christ came,
who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Romans 9:4–5.

The passage in Romans 9:4-5 is the totality of God's salvation of the Hebrew people also known as the children of Israel.

God made NO COVENANT with non-Hebrew Gentiles.
NONE.

Dude, you obsessed with ethnicity, this dont have noting to do with race !
Then God should NOT have singled out one family for salvation and distinguish this people apart from the rest of Adamites and give this family the sign of covenant for salvation and blessing of circumcision.
God did this, not me. He chose one family ABOVE ALL FAMILIES ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH.

6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. DEUTERONOMY 7:6.

It is the LORD'S doing and it is marvelous in our sight (at least for those who have eyes to see.)

To bring them out of the land of Egypt;
Which my covenant they brake,
Although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel;
After those days, saith the LORD,
fI will put my law in their inward parts,
And write it in their hearts;
And will be their God,
And they shall be my people.
34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying,
Know the LORD:
For they shall all know me,
From the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD:
For I will forgive their iniquity,
And I will remember their sin no more.
Jeremiah 31:31–34.

The Greek word "kosmos" translated "world" is in context to the Hebrew people and refers to those who are in covenant with God, or the "world" of Hebrews.

Galatians 4:4–5.

and

4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth
the adoption,
and the glory,
and the covenants,
and the giving of the law,
and the service of God,
and the promises;
5 Whose are the fathers,
and of whom as concerning the flesh
Christ came,
who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Romans 9:4–5.

The passage in Romans 9:4-5 is the totality of God's salvation of the Hebrew people also known as the children of Israel.

God made NO COVENANT with non-Hebrew Gentiles.
NONE.
The gospel is for all.

Paul turned to the gentiles here.

Acts 13:46 (LEB) — 46 Both Paul and Barnabas spoke boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you, since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life! Behold, we are turning to the Gentiles!

Having been commanded by God

Acts 13:47 (LEB) — 47 For so the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have appointed you to be a light for the Gentiles, that you would bring salvation to the end of the earth.’

and salvation (eternal life) achieved for the gentiles as well

Acts 11:18 (LEB) — 18 And when they heard these things, they became silent and praised God, saying, “Then God has granted the repentance leading to life to the Gentiles also!”

Acts 13:48 (LEB) — 48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they began to rejoice and to glorify the word of the Lord. And all those who were designated for eternal life believed.

Amen

The Calvinist theology of total depravity, which holds man incapable of repentance or belief/trust in God, is unbiblical.
Man blowed it in Adam, God could have damned everyone forever without mercy and be just. Think about the angels that sinned, did God show them mercy and love ? No He dealt with them in strict Justice, is He Just ? Those angels may feel God is unjust for not dealing with man in the same strict Justice.
