The apostle John used the Semitic writing style of key words. Read the prayer in John 17 down through 19, and again 24 to the end. The key word is "give." The only people the Father "gave" to the Son were the apostles. The key word also showed up in chapter 6 and 10. The only ones that cannot be snatched from the Father's hand were the apostles, except Judas, though the Father predestined him as well knowing his character. It certainly didn't apply to those followers of Jesus who left Him after Jesus spoke of eating his flesh and drinking his blood. The apostles stayed.
Many Christians do not know this.
It is also true in 1 John 1 and 2. The key word is "say." The lie didn't have to do with saying you don't sin, but as in 1 John 2:4 the lie was not keeping the commandments, but "saying" they did. Otherwise, the first part of the second chapter would not be true: "My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin." Also, 1 John 1:9 would not be true either if after being cleansed of ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, you agree and say you are free from sin.

A book of stories that only apply to apostles, written by the last surviving Apostle after most of the other apostles were already dead … is of little value to “you” and John’s stated goal.

No. John 10 itself are written in two, and so is 17. John 17:20-23 are about those who follow Christ based on the apostle's teachings, but the parts before and after were praying specifically about the apostles. And in 10 Jesus preached first to a crowd about being the good Shepherd. But when He and the apostles left and went into the temple, He was at that time speaking to Pharisees about those who were with Him, His apostles. Once you know John's style and can pick up on key words, you can understand more clearly what the writers are saying. The apostles who wrote were "eastern," most of us are "western" and do not catch these nuances.
Here is another. Acts 4:33 says, " 33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all." The key word here is "great." In this style it equates power with grace. Grace is the power of God, not unmerited favor as has been taught and perverted in the Church, like just a cover-up of our sins, instead of the power of God to remove all desire to sin out of our nature.

I'm the same way. Turn it into an actual conversation and ask Him questions and listen hard for His answer. That is true abiding in Jesus and He in you.I’m reminded of a Willie Nelson song: you were always on my mind.
I always tell our men’s group Jesus is always on my mind. I cannot not think of Him no matter how hard I could try. I owe Him my everything and I think about His grace all the time. Call it an “ obsession “.
There was another secular song called addicted to love. Well I’m addicted to Jesus.
