Jesus denied being God

Your reasoning is faulty. Jesus claimed to be good and even sinless. "I am the Good Shepherd." Therefore He claimed to be God. You added the word "absolute", which is not in the text. "Which of you convicts Me of sin?"

Also I think you are interpreting the story wrong. The man obviously thought Jesus was good, but that He was not God. If he thought He was God, he would have addressed Him as "Lord" or maybe even "God". Instead the man believed that Jesus was just a "good teacher". Jesus knew that man did not believe He was God.
Essentially Jesus is asking him, "If you don't believe I'm God, then why do you call Me "Good teacher"?
While it's true the Jesus is the good shepherd, your reasoning on that meaning he is God is faulty. Being good isn't the criteria for being God because there are others who are also good. For example, in Matthew 25:23 Jesus said "Well done, good and faithful servant," to the faithful.

The way in which Jesus denied being God in Matthew 19:17, Mark 10:18, and Luke 18:19 is that in the context there was a man who called him good teacher. Jesus denied being the one who is the good teacher because it was the Father who was Jesus' teacher. Jesus spoke directly on this matter in John 8:28, saying "...but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things." So in other words, Jesus had a good teacher himself. Therefore he cannot claim to be the good teacher because he owed all of his thanks to the Father who is his God. Therefore Jesus gave the Father the glory.

Only God alone is the good [teacher] and therefore Jesus denied being the good teacher and, in effect, that is a denial of being God.

are you serious? the word shew here when used as a verb, "(something) To prove or reveal a truth about", is synonyms with, reveal, evidence, declare, symbolize, make clear, introduce. and introduce means, "To cause to be acquainted with someone"
and 1 Timothy 6:14a says that Jesus will show who" so, in Identifying WHO.... it is the Lord JESUS. so you're reproved there.

and he is the Father, did you not read? Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

and for your John 1:18, John 17:3, Acts 20:24, John 1:18 is not the Lord Jesus the Express IMAGE of, of, of, his PERSON? meaning the same one Person, for Express here mean "EXACT". yes the same one PERSON, and for John 17:3 is the same one person again. i.e. Listen and Learn. John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." the Word was ... "WITH" God? seems like two persons correct? incorrect. Listen and Learn, the "WITH" revealing. Isaiah 41:4 "Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he." see that AND as in John 17:3 .... see that WITH as in John 1:1. now comprehend their meaning in the Godhead. Isaiah 48:12 "Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last."
WHAT! ........ "I, I, I, I, ALSO", yes I a single PERSON is also, and "ALSO" means.... in addition; too. BINGO, reproved here also. for the Lord Jesus in John 17:3 being in addition to being the ONLY TRUE God, he is "ALSO" the CHRIST.... BINGO, you're reproved again. and as for John 1:18. in addition to being God, he Jesus is also the ONLY begotten Son....... is not the REVELATOR revealing TRUTH...... again you are reproved.

again .... have you not READ? what died, flesh or spirit? let the bible speak. James 2:26 "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." so, the flesh died, NOT the spirit. so, what happens to the spirit, or where do the spirit Go? let the bible speak, Ecclesiastes 3:19 "For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity." Ecclesiastes 3:20 "All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again." Ecclesiastes 3:21 "Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?" Ecclesiastes 3:22 "Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?"

"Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward", WHO knoweth? answer we do by the scriptures, Ecclesiastes 12:7 "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." So again, you're reproved, for there are two death, the First of the Flesh....... and the second death.... the Lake of fire.

LOL, LOL, LOL, My God when will they ever learn. listen to the definition of LIGHT. it is the Greek term,
G5457 φῶς phos (fōs') n.
luminousness.
{in the widest application, natural or artificial, abstract or concrete, literal or figurative}
[from an obsolete phao “to shine or make manifest” (especially by rays)]
KJV: fire, light
Compare: G5316, G5346

now, Genesis 1:3 "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." LIGHT here is the Hebrew term,
H216 אוֹר 'owr (ore) n-f.
1. illumination.
2. (concretely) luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.).
[from H215]
KJV: bright, clear, + day, light (-ning), morning, sun.
Root(s): H215

LIGHT here is metaphorically represented as WISDOM. How do 101G know this? see the Hebrew term LIGHT in Genesis 1:3... note the 2nd. definition, 2. (concretely) luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.). and happiness means, delight, and rejoice. scripture,
Proverbs 8:22 "The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old." Proverbs 8:23 "I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was." Proverbs 8:24 "When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water." Proverbs 8:25 "Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:" Proverbs 8:26 "While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world." Proverbs 8:27 "When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:" Proverbs 8:28 "When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:" Proverbs 8:29 "When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:" Proverbs 8:30 "Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;" Proverbs 8:31 "Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men."
now NT, 1 Corinthians 1:24 "But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God."

MY God this is Just too easy. Look Runningman, you might want to study a bit more before you go any further.... no put down, but encouragement.

The matter is, 1 Timothy 6:14-16 doesn't describe Jesus. If it doesn't describe Jesus then Jesus isn't God. Oh sure, you can just make things up as you go and allegorize the word light and introduce metaphors and philosophy where you were never invited to do so. Like the Trinitarians, you must also fiddle with the words to make it fit with your theology. I completely understand you have your religion and that's it. You'll find a way to make it work.

What is your work-around for my third point? Do you believe no man has ever seen Jesus?

I said, "Thirdly, the passage says that no man has seen or can see. That would not be Jesus at all. Many people saw Jesus in the Bible and he will have a visible second coming "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him." Read it again and let's see if you are seeing it now."

1 Timothy 6 (KJV)
16...whom no man hath seen, nor can see...

You are very good at misreading scripture. If we cannot trust you in the little things, we cannot trust you on the arguments against the deity of Christ

You misread the parable and then misconstrue Matt 25:23. Not surprisingly though. The parable is of a man traveling to a far country. The man of that parable does not have to use "good" in the way Jesus would. Each time you interpret, you make mistakes.

Bottom line is that Jesus had teachers (the rabbis at the temple and the Father) so he can't be the good teacher. Jesus had class and knew where the glory goes. That's why he had to deny being God.

LOL, Listen, no work around, just scripture, John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Everyone has beliefs. Belief does not require facts or proof to exist. Anyone can believe anything they wish because belief is not dependent on facts. If you want to believe in something that Bible does not support, then it's your choice. I know that, fundamentally, it's your religion and you're sticking with it. That's what everyone else does.
Hello @Runningman,

No. What I believe is founded on the word of God, the testimony of which is that the Lord Jesus Christ is God made manifest in the flesh. The whole testimony of Scripture shouts it. When I am able I shall return and provide proof of that.

Thank you

What we need is a clear teaching that Jesus is God. A whole paragraph or chapter teaching and explaining it. We don't need all the jumping around from one verse to another half verse and then another word and then another hint. Anyone can make the Bible say anything as they jump and copy and paste. Even I can prove the Apostle Peter was in the garden with Eve if I jump from one verse to another. I can say Eve called the devil satan and Jesus called Peter satan and therefore this proves Peter was in the garden with Eve.

Here's an example of what we need...

I know enough about how the Bible is written in the New Testament and in the Gospels to know if there was a trinity it would have been taught. The Gospels would have clearly said...

Verily, verily I say unto you that I am Jesus and I'm also God.

The Epistles would have writings like...

Yay, I Paul do testify that Jesus who is God came down from heaven to be a man for us. And we do know and testify that this same Jesus who you crucified is God. And so let us bow our knee to the one and only true God-Man Jesus Christ.

And yet there's nothing like that anywhere. Not in the Old or New Testament. Not even one complete verse like that.

The Incarnation:- Luke 1:35,

'And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary:
for thou hast found favour with God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb,
and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest:
and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David:
And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever;
and of His kingdom there shall be no end.
Then said Mary unto the angel,
How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
And the angel answered and said unto her,
The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee,
and The power of The Highest shall overshadow thee:
therefore also That Holy Thing which shall be born of thee
shall be called The Son of God.

(Luk 1:30-35)

Praise God!

Hello @Peterlag,

You really do not appear to have read the Scriptures with faith. I cannot help your unbelief I'm afraid, only God can help you there.

There is very good reason why the Lord Jesus Christ was not referred to in the way you suggest, for it was necessary that all the prophecy made concerning Him should be fulfilled within God's time scale, and it was vital that the Lord was not given cause to be arrested and put to death prior to the time of God's choosing. The same applies to the twelve, and the other Apostles who were fulfilling their allotted tasks, for they were also in danger of their very lives.

Those who believed in Him during that period were in no doubt of His identity. He was the Son of God, and God was in Him, reconciling the world unto Himself. He was God made flesh, who had dwelt among them.

This is my reasoning, which is inadequate at best, but I am convinced of Christ's identity by reading the Scriptures with faith, for the whole testimony shouts to me, in the spirit, that Christ Jesus my risen Saviour, Lord and Head was and is God made flesh in order to redeem.

None. I am just a Bible-believing Christian. How about you?
My wife and I go to a home church, which is nondenominational and totally independent from any other church, although we believe there are true Christians in many traditional churches. We have been going weekly for 23 years. Four of our five children went with us originally, but now they are all grown and on their own. The fifth child, the oldest, had already moved out before we started going to the home church. Three of them continue reading their Bibles and sporadically attend traditional churches. The fourth and fifth do not go to church, nor do they, as far as we know, either read their Bible or follow the Lord. Obviously, we continually to pray for all of them daily.

Yes the Holy Spirit is the Father according to Scripture.

John 4
23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Three times I have tried to avoid responding to this, yet here I am.... So someone wants me here.

Isnt it fantastic that ... look what we can learn right at the very start..

Gen 1:2 -3 and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. 3Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

Here we have God's Holy Spirit moving over the waters and then God becomes the Word to say "Let there be light."

Yes it does... because if the Holy Spirit is YHWH Elohim it is never the Holy Spirit speaking when YHWH Elohim speaks in Genesis.

If YHWH Elohim was the one floating on the water, then why did they lead with the spirit.... and than switch to it being then God said.

Now.

If the Holy Spirit is also God the Father, why was it necessary to to change character to say Let there....

Fast forward to Matt 3: 16-17

16As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Again. We have the Spirit of God decending from the heavens and landing on Jesus and then a voice from heaven says something.

If God the Father and the Holy Spirit are one,
How did they separate? and
Why did they separate. So one was in heaven and one here on earth....

WAIT.... I MIGHT KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS....... LETS NOT ALL GET EXCITED AT ONCE.

The Holy Spirit Dove who was also God the Father.... wait for it.... "Knew how to throw his voice"

Silly? You betcha... So you answer my questions.

Last.

Jesus said... in John 14: 16-21

16I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

18;“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. 20In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

Then...

Jesus said... in John 20: 21 -22

21. So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”

22. And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

SO... IF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE FATHER ARE ONE. .. Then does this mean that The Father came to live within the disciples and then in each of us respectively who are born again... that Jesus is up on His thrown in heaven but God the Father is residing in us????????

And when the bible says the spirit, in Ecc 12:7 that says the Spirit goes back to God who gave it... or the other verses that suggest the soul goes back to God. WHERE? If he is on earth in us where do they go?

You simply do not grasp the bigger plan of things.

I understand you may not want to... but ask yourself whet the purpose of God having designed things so the Word would come to earth and be born as a mortal.

You limit yourself.

Also ask yourself... which might be one of the most important things to know is why Jesus spoke in so many parables?

Got Questions:

The question is why Jesus would let most people wonder about the meaning of His parables. The first instance of this is in His telling the parable of the seed and the soils. Before He interpreted this parable, He drew His disciples away from the crowd. They said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?" Jesus answered them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says,

‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’ But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it" (Matthew 13:10-17).

It was never for all to know who Jesus was.

He could not have spouted that he and the Father were both God it was not the plan for them to know, but to come to the knowledge upon hearing.

The bible gives us a minimum of 3 examples of the 3 parts of God by example. YOU don't see it. I do. Certainly you nor anyone should believe the Holy Spirit and The Father are one....

Jesus made "being good" the criteria for being God. You are correct, many people have been called good, but if they are good, it is only because they're sins have been forgiven, and they have been born again with the righteousness of Christ. So obviously Jesus knows that, so he is speaking of an inherent goodness, which only God has, i.e. He has never sinned - no man other that Jesus can make that claim. Since Jesus Himself claimed to be without sin, He, and God (and the Holy Spirit) are each (and all) inherently good, making each of them and all of them God.
On the contrary, He did claim to be both good and the teacher. You are mistaken, He never denied being the good teacher. John 13:13 "You call Me teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am." He is both (inherently) good, as only God is, and our Teacher.

Again you sort of miss it. He was teaching them as much or more than they teaching him. If they were decent teachers, that does not mean he is humbling himself to those unnamed people. And if they taught him something, that does not mean the goodness that is only found in God does not pertain to Jesus. You find too many ways to distort scripture.
Edited: For runningman's point to be true (though not quite stated here), is that Jesus would have to specifically say "I am not good."
No I got it right. Jesus didn't make up any of his own doctrines, he didn't create the gospel, he didn't make any of his own teachings. He's not the good teacher. The Good Teacher is God alone. Therefore Jesus denied being God. Let's see if more Scripture helps you connect the dots.

John 8
28...as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
John 7
16...My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
John 12
49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Jesus, the man who did not create his own doctrines, did not teach himself, and got his commands from God denied being God when he was called "Good Teacher" because Jesus is not the good teacher.

Matthew 19
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Mark 10
18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
Luke 18
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

it do.

already proved that it do.

what 's wrong, you cannot read?

LOL, Listen, no work around, just scripture, John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:7 "If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him." John 14:8 "Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us." The LORD hath loved Him:
He will do His pleasure on Babylon,
and His arm shall be on the Chaldeans.
I, even I, have spoken;
yea, I have called Him:
I have brought Him,
and He shall make His way prosperous.
.. Come ye near unto Me, hear ye this;
.... I have not spoken in secret from the beginning;
...... from the time that it was, there am I:
........ and now the Lord GOD, and His Spirit, hath sent Me.
.......... Thus saith the LORD,
............ thy Redeemer,
.............. The Holy One of Israel;
I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit,
which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.'

(Isa 48:16-17)

Praise God!

Can't find it. Where did you see someone named "God the Son" in the Bible?

My wife and I go to a home church, which is nondenominational and totally independent from any other church, although we believe there are true Christians in many traditional churches. We have been going weekly for 23 years. Four of our five children went with us originally, but now they are all grown and on their own. The fifth child, the oldest, had already moved out before we started going to the home church. Three of them continue reading their Bibles and sporadically attend traditional churches. The fourth and fifth do not go to church, nor do they, as far as we know, either read their Bible or follow the Lord. Obviously, we continually to pray for all of them daily.
Yes. Most Christian churches are home churches and probably always will be just as it has been from the beginning. Real Christianity, to be frank, is actually more like a filter. Many are called, but few are chosen (Matt 22:14). It's because God doesn't need any lip service or fakery from people.

The Way doesn't itch peoples' ears. It will tell those who have sin they must abandon it, take up their cross, and follow Jesus and, in the end, if they are deemed worthy, they will be raised to eternal life in resurrection based on a judgement of their deeds. How this translates into every day words for the common person is that they have to work hard, give up the fun stuff, possibly have a difficult life, and potentially lose their rewards in the end. No one except those who truly love the Lord are going to give up their money for Jesus' Christianity and these very same people will likely not be very rich. Most will for sure just be a Catholic or Protestant. Much easier to pay money for absolution of sins or just go the easy-believism route.

Christianity will always be an at-home faith until Kingdom come.

This is a little off topic, but I wanted to reply to you regardless. I do love soteriological discussions if you ever want to chat about it sometime.

While it's true that Jesus is good, being good is not the criteria for being God. This is an unpopular Biblical truth, but nevertheless it is a Biblical truth none the less. I assume you and I will both agree that Jesus is the prophesied Immanuel since most people I have chatted with or spoke to also agree.

Did you know that Immanuel needed time to learn the difference between good and evil? How can someone who is inherently good not already know the difference between good an evil? Having inherent goodness and not knowing what goodness is can't coexist. You will see that Immanuel in the below verse needed to know to refuse evil and choose good.

Isaiah 7
14Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

Another thing is that the Bible says that Jesus grew in stature and favor with both God and men. The way this reads is that Jesus developed repertoire with numerous parties who are exterior to himself. Other people are a different party to Jesus, God is a different party to people, then since Jesus is a man then God is a different party to Jesus.

So how can someone who is already inherently good increase in stature and favor with God is they are already on equal footing with God, so to speak?

Luke 2
52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

And for the record, before anyone gets the wrong idea, I do not believe Jesus is a sinner. Jesus is sinless. Now please answer my questions if you will. Thanks.

I believe the verses in Isaiah have a double fulfillment. In other words, Isaiah is speaking here to Ahaz, the king of Judah, telling him that he will give him a sign that He will protect him from his enemies. And that sign is a child born of a maiden, and she will call him Immanuel. Before he is old enough to refuse evil and choose good, God will defeat your enemies. The 2nd fulfillment is when Jesus was born. Matthew 1:23
Jesus was called "holy" at birth, and He did have to learn to refuse evil and choose good, just like every other child. He did have to increase in wisdom, just like every young boy, because He was a human, as we are. But He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, not like we were or any other man. So He was also God in the flesh. Yet, He "emptied Himself" to become a man, laid aside His privileges, even though He existed in the form of God. Philippians 2:5-8
I believe He could have sinned (if not, then it wouldn't really be a true test) , but He chose not too, giving us that same choice.
Being (inherently) good is not the criteria for being God? It most certainly is one of His main attributes. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty ...
