I thought I had to be full body immersed in water in order to receive the Holy Ghost when, in fact, I already HAD Him the moment I believed! Nevertheless, it was still a pleasant experience to publicly announce Jesus Christ as my Lord & Saviour. AND, I love the book of John all the more, given it screams at you that Jesus Is GOD Almighty! Alleluia!

I will agree that our spirit is dead until God comes in his Holy Spirit within us. There then is some ambiguity with the likelihood that Paul intended it that way -- or could not avoid it.

Sometimes where the spirit is mentioned it is not always a reference to God. For example, we know the Father is Spirit in John 4:23,24, and we know the Father is holy, so we know the Father is a Holy Spirit. Are there two Holy Spirits or one? See, the Holy Spirit isn't a separate person. This is also why the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are rarely, if ever, mentioned together in the same context, why the Spirit is often excluded when speaking of the Father, and vice versa, because it would be redundant to mention the Father and Holy Spirit together because that's the same person.

On the other hand, yes sometimes the spirit is an anointing, empowerment, a thing. They didn't do a good job always calling attention to that, but that seems to be the case. You may notice sometimes spirit is capitalized and sometimes not. The translators and theologians had to decide when the spirit is a thing or not. It's not exact, they made their best guesses.

Enough study and critical thinking of this subject will lead you to this conclusion. Peter raises valid points and they are worth discussing. I hope you will see his perspective a little more clearly now.

The only way study and critical thinking would lead to your errant conclusions is if you got so fatigued by studying that you missed what the text says. Nothing says the Father is the Holy Spirit. That just reflects total muddling of scripture. It would also be uselessly redundant.

John 4:23,24 says the Father is the Spirit. So you think every time the translators said spirit with a lowercase s they were in error? I didn't translate the Bible by the way. No I don't ever get tired of preaching the truth or responding to people. I have been doing this for years.

It is not surprising that you again misinterpret what is in the verses. Verse 24 does not say "is the Spirit"; the verse says God is spirit.
I guess you do not tire of twisting scripture.

I see you don't understand what John 4:23,24 says. The true worshippers worship the Father, therefore worshipping God is the same thing as worshipping the Father because the Father is God. It's appropriate, then, to say God is Spirit. Since God is Spirit then so is the Father. Do you also deny the Father is holy Spirit?

I see you don't understand what John 4:23,24 says. The true worshippers worship the Father, therefore worshipping God is the same thing as worshipping the Father because the Father is God. It's appropriate, then, to say God is Spirit. Since God is Spirit then so is the Father. Do you also deny the Father is holy Spirit?

it is fine to say God is spirit. However, the Holy Spirit is distinct from the Father when abiding in Christians. I do not think that is something familiar to you.
