What is The Rapture?

According to my online dictionary, the word rapture means “an expression or manifestation of ecstasy or passion” and “being carried away by overwhelming emotion.” But according to the Bible, the Rapture is the event in which all who have put their trust in Jesus Christ are suddenly caught up from the earth and taken into heaven by Him. The English word rapture is a translation of the Greek word harpazo. It occurs fourteen times in the New Testament, and it means “to carry off by force,” “to seize,” or “to carry away.”

To help you get your bearings concerning the Rapture, please read these words thoughtfully and carefully.

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. Corinthians 15:51–53

I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18

By putting these passages together a stunning sequence of events becomes clear. But remember that everything described in these verses took place “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.” We know this, right? It all happened in a split second. However, to help us see it more easily, the Lord slows down the film to super-slow-motion so we can see it frame by frame.

The rapture is the resurrection for living people.

It’s where the physical body is transfigured to a resurrection body that will never die, just like the dead in Christ.

The resurrection of the dead in Christ is first… Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
There are some key points to understand about this doctrine.

  • The resurrection and rapture occur at His coming.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 1 Thessalonians 4:15

  • The resurrection and rapture occur as one event, in order, with the resurrection occurring first.

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 1 Thessalonians 4:16

  • This is where the Lord gathers together His people.

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:18

Once His people are caught together with Him high above the earth, then comes the destruction of the wicked. This destruction of the wicked includes the Antichrist.

This Second Coming of Christ is called the Day of the LORD.

But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-4

Please take note that the Day of the LORD does not come as a thief in the night for His people who are watching for the signs He gave for us to watch for.

  • But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.

Great post with one exception.
One mistake = at the Rapture we are not taken up to Heaven

1Thess 4:13-17 predicts the removal of everyone on earth unified with Christ, both
the living and the departed. The Bible gives no date for the event.

I've watched a number of films pertaining to the rapture and every one of them left
out the part where the remains of 2,000 years of departed believers will be restored
to life.

The films also left out the part where folks unified with Christ rise into the air to
meet him. Instead the films showed them here one second and gone the next,
but I rather suspect the event should be easily observed all 'round the world if it
proceeds as described because 2,000 years of believers, added to the world's
current number, will likely construct a flash mob resembling a mini Oort Cloud when
they levitate together all at one time to rendezvous with Christ up in the sky from
every corner of the globe.

The mob is likely to get pretty noisy too what with all the cheering, laughing, and
shouting that's sure to take place when the folks unified with Jesus receive their
new bodies; which of course will be immune to death and the aging process. (1Cor
15:51-53)

* The blink component of the rapture pertains to the quickness of the miraculous
transformation that Jesus' followers will undergo during the event. (1Cor 15:51-52)

The films also showed tiny children being taken while their parents are left behind.
That's highly doubtful because minors have often been collateral damage in the
Bible when God slammed their parents, e.g. zero children survived the Flood, and
120,00 would've been lost had God found it necessary to follow thru with His threat
to annihilate Nineveh. (Jonah 4:11)

NOTE: People left behind shouldn't let the rapture cause them panic because it isn't
the end of the world. They can still get themselves spared retribution and perdition,
i.e. it's not like all hope is lost. In point of fact, vast numbers of folks from all over
the globe will be spared during the interlude between the rapture and Christ's feet
touching down on the ground to set up the kingdom conditions predicted by the
prophets in the old testament. (Rev 7:9-14)

The focus of the Rapture is on looking at the event not from the viewpoint of those who remain, but from that of those who are evacuated. Before the period of the Tribulation breaks out, all true followers of the Lord will be caught up from the earth and right into the presence of the Lord.

The Rapture will fulfill the promise He made to His disciples in John 14:1–3:

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Followers of Christ who are raptured will be spared the trauma of death and the coming disasters that will occur when the Tribulation breaks out upon the earth.

.
FAQ: What is the purpose of the rapture?

REPLY: It's primarily an evacuation.

For example Rev 16:17-18 predicts a global earthquake so overwhelming on the
Richter scale that cities all over the world will collapse at once.

Something like 2,829 lost their lives when the World Trade Center was demolished
by a terrorist attack in 2001. Well that was only a few acres of New York City. Just
imagine the body count when all of Manhattan comes down at once along with
other major cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Mexico City, Paris, Moscow,
Beijing, Tokyo, et al.

The carnage will be beyond belief; and that's just one of the many life-threatening
events set to take place.

FAQ: Supposing I don't believe in a pre-tribulation rapture. Will I be left behind if
perchance it turns out to be true?

REPLY: Well; it appears to me that the only prerequisite to participation is that
people be in Jesus a.k.a. in Christ. (1Thess 4:14-17) That being the case, then
everyone unified with Christ will be taken up whether the event is pre tribulation,
mid tribulation, post tribulation, or no tribulation.

NOTE: Paul's primary purpose for informing his friends about the rapture was comfort
and encouragement.

From what I gather, the scope of Christianity's resurrection was not well understood in
the Roman world at first. Many of the early Christians back then sincerely believed that
when people died, they were gone forever. It took a while to get the word out that the
passing of one's Christian loved ones is a temporary loss rather than permanent

The day of our gathering back to Christ will not happen until AFTER the false messiah, otherwise known as Satan, appears claiming to be God.

2 Thessalonians 2:2-4 (NKJV) 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for [that Day will not come] unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

A lot of misunderstanding comes from confusing these two events. When we talk about the signs that signal the return of Christ, we speak not of the Rapture, but of the Lord’s ultimate return to the earth with all His saints. According to the book of Revelation, this coming of Christ occurs after the Rapture and differs from it in at least two ways.

First, the Rapture will be a “stealth event” in which Christ will be witnessed by believers only. His Second Coming, on the other hand, will be a public event. Everyone will see Him: “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him: even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him” (Revelation 1:7; see also Zechariah 14:1, 3–5, Revelation 19:1–21).

Second, all believers are raptured. Jesus will immediately take them back into heaven with Him. But when Christ returns to earth seven years later in the Second Coming, He is coming to stay. This return, usually referred to as “the Second Advent,” will take place at the end of the Tribulation period and usher in the Millennium—a thousand-year reign of Christ on this earth. So, first, the Rapture will occur seven years before the Second Advent. At that time Christ will take us to be with Him in heaven, immediately before the seven-year Tribulation period.

Then, secondly, we will return to earth with Him at His Second Advent.
There is another important difference. There are no events that must take place before the Rapture occurs. It’s all a matter of God’s perfect timing. When I preach that signs are developing concerning the Lord’s return, I’m referring to events that must yet occur before the return of Christ in the Second Advent.

The confusion comes from believing a lie = same as in Genesis chapter 3
"two events' = this is a LIE from satan

JESUS Says there is only One Resurrection of the Just at His Second Coming.

David Jeremiah is a false prophet and a money changer as he sells the pre-trib rapture lie for money and to be praised by men.

BEST thing for you to do is believe every word spoken by Christ and the Apostles and REPENT from believing and promoting a lie.

One of the most amazing aspects of the mystery revealed in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:51-54 is the promise that the church of Jesus Christ will not pass through the Tribulation. That is one reason why the Bible calls the Rapture “the blessed hope” (Titus 2:13), which we will discuss in a future chapter.

Most believers realize that becoming a Christian does not save them from the ordinary tribulations that plague all men from time to time. Church history is replete with martyrs who have suffered all kinds of persecution, particularly in the first three centuries of the church, during the inquisition, and in the last century (as well as today). Many of these were godly people who lived dedicated lives. Nonetheless, persecution led to their untimely deaths.

For that reason, many Christians, when they first discover that the Rapture of the church will occur prior to the Tribulation, often respond in one of two ways: 1) “It’s too good to be true!” or 2) “I don’t deserve to be saved from the wrath to come—I deserve to suffer. Did not the apostle Peter warn Christians they would suffer?” (see 1 Peter 4:12-13).

We often overlook, however, the principle that trials are a standard part of life in a fallen world. By contrast, our Lord specifically informed us that the Tribulation is a special judgment of God. The Lord Jesus said of that day, “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened” (Matthew 24:21-22, emphasis added).

We readily welcome the good news that Christians will be raptured before that period arrives. Admittedly, we do not deserve deliverance from the hour of wrath that will try the whole earth, but escape from wrath is not based on merit. It is founded solely on what the Bible says. God deals with us on the basis of grace when we turn to Him in faith, and this principle includes escape from the Tribulation. The contemporary church, with all her carnality, worldliness, and sin, does not warrant escape from the Tribulation; but typical of His mercy, God will save us from the wrath to come not because we deserve it but because of His mercy.

@Hosanna, why are you promoting a LIE???
JESUS emphatically Said we will suffer Tribulation = even Great Tribulation = John 16:33 & Matt 10:28 & Matt ch24

God promises that the Body of Christ will not suffer from His Wrath = 1 Thess 1:10 , 1 Thess 5:3 , 2 Thess chapter 2

and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ

But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.

The apostle Paul talked excitedly about the heavenly crown awaiting him, “which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that great day of his return. And not just to me but to all those whose lives show that they are eagerly looking forward to his coming back again” (2 Tim. 4:8 TLB).

This is a book about a Great Day that’s coming—the day of the Rapture. The exact date is already circled on God’s calendar. We aren’t privy to those records, but the year, month, day, hour, minute, and second are locked into God’s program for our planet.
The Rapture is an event in the impending future when all of us, living or deceased, who have put our trust in Jesus Christ for salvation and eternal life will be suddenly caught up from this earth into the heavens. We’ll be reunited with loved ones who have preceded us in death. We’ll be met by the Lord Himself, who will usher us into heaven to live forever in perfect fellowship with God.

@Hosanna, you need to believe the Apostle Paul and reject the falsehood of pre-trib rapture which is a lie.

Listen to the words of the Holy Spirit spoken thru the apostle Paul:
Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.
i will personally donate, in your name, $1,000.00 USD to Voice of the Martyr's if you can find just one verse from the Lord or the Apostles that say: "the Saints/Body of Christ will not go thru the Great Tribulation"

If you are unable to find one clear declaration of Christ Coming before the Tribulation(not God's Wrath) then you must donate $1,000.00 USD to Voice of the Martyr's in my name.

Look at The promise of Revelation 3:10

One of the best promises guaranteeing the church’s rapture before the Tribulation appears in Revelation 3:10. As you read it, keep in mind that it is one of our Lord’s own promises:

Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.

This text represents Christ’s message to one of His seven churches, the church at Philadelphia. It must transcend the one little church of Asia to which He wrote, for the church at Philadelphia has long been extinct, and the hour “which shall come upon the whole world” has not yet come.

Excellent scripture and Rev 3:10 is 100% Truth

Now apply Rev3:10/Truth to the same Truth in 1 Thess 4:13-18

So, first, the Rapture will occur seven years before the Second Advent. At that time Christ will take us to be with Him in heaven, immediately before the seven-year Tribulation period.
Please provide Scripture that says that a so-called rapture will occur seven years before the Second Advent of Christ.

Good morning, @Hosanna
So what precisely is the hour of temptation that the church of Philadelphia escapes? The hour of temptation is a period of time (“hour”) when Satan the Antichrist will be here on the earth claiming to be Jesus. Hey, but you know what?—those Christians with the seal of God in their foreheads, who have abided in His Word and will stand firm and not be deceived, will not find Satan tempting. In Revelation 9:4, it is written that "...only to those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads." So you see, we don’t need to be afraid of being deceived if we have studied what God has already foretold us and we believe it, and we’ve got on our gospel armor and are ready to fight the good fight of faith.

Revelation 9:1-4 (NKJV) 1 Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. 3 Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
God will not allow any physical damage to any part of the earth—Not the grass, trees, or any physical matter you can think of. Why? because this latter-day tribulation is a spiritual warfare. Satan is not necessarily after your body; he’s after your soul.

And look here; here’s God’s promises to the overcomer Christians!
Revelation 3:10-13 (NKJV) 10 “Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. 11 “Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. 12 “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And [I will write on him] My new name. 13 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’

Those who believe that the Day Of The LORD is the rapture are in danger of worshiping the Antichrist because they will believe that this is Jesus who has come to “rapture” them away! … when in reality it will be the Antichrist they’re worshiping. This the great apostasy of the end times.

Remember: The Antichrist (Satan) comes at the 6th trump.
JESUS returns at the 7th trump.
