The worthiness of Eternal Life

Act 13:46 And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.

Notice the appeal to the unworthy nature of the self judgement of Jews. Which is really the appeal of faith.

Faith says, not only do I believe what God says but I believe what God did is for...ME.

Is it possible that some are missing the appeal to the worthiness of the Atonement of Christ. It is the basis for the right to Eternal life.. Such life does not come absent any effort. It requires the right effort to establish the benefit of Eternal life.

Yes, Jesus said make every effort.

The difference where it becomes a salvation by works, is whether we earn or merit things by our efforts.

And whether grace always comes first, and is not initiated by our own goodness.

I don't see how that deals with the issue at hand. What did Paul mean by the appeal to self judgement and unworthiness?

no one here is a pelagian on the forum so the goodness argument doesn't work.
