I believe it is important that we have a proper perspective of the work of Moses. There are many traditions associated with him.
Num 12:3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
Reading Numbers 12:3 above..... we see God's work in Moses. Humility. How did Moses become "humble"?
Exo 2:11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
Exo 2:12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
Moses killed an Egyptian. However, he thought he had gotten away with it. He didn't.
Exo 2:13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?
Exo 2:14 And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
Do you know how these Egyptians knew of what Moses did? They knew because the very man that Moses defended, told others about it. It must have been heartbreaking for Moses to experience this. The very person he sought to save, is the very person that condemned him. Which is often what happens with those who claim to keep the law. They criticise others for the same things they do themselves.
We know that Moses from that point on spent 40 years in the desert. God intervened and called Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt. For 40 years Moses was humbled in the desert. Moses goes back to Egypt and you know the rest of the story. However,
Have you ever stopped to consider that Moses took Israel right back into the desert? Moses goes with Israel into a desert where he has faced his own failures. Over and over again for 40 years. The work of God in the children of Israel was to be the same work God had already done in Moses. That is how leadership works. Leaders have already experience the work. They share themselves with others. That is what Moses did. That is what God did in the wilderness. The law they claim to keep is the same law that was targeted to humble them..... just like Moses.
