The Golden Rule

Jesus didn’t kill his enemies, nor did he instruct his disciples to kill theirs.

I live under the new covenant. I obey the new covenant teaching of Jesus of Nazareth.
I read you say you read the Hebrew Scriptures.
That's fine. But for one, "eye for eye" was given to the children of Israel as a means of grace between themselves among their tribes, not to Gentiles. You can't even try to read the Hebrew Scriptures as a Gentile with a 21st century, western world political, socio-cultural Gentile mindset and hope to understand it.
You take the original command God gave to the children of Israel and attempt to insert Gentile interpretation, even when you quote Jesus saying, "love your enemy."
These are covenant instructions to a people 4000 years removed from our day and time.
This was a command God gave to the children of Israel, not Gentiles, for God made no covenant with Gentiles.
So, who was Jesus referring when He said, "love your enemy?"

I teach people not to kill their enemies. The same can’t be said for you.
You're a Gentile teaching other Gentiles about a Jewish command God gave to the Jews. How can you teach them when the Law wasn't given to Gentiles. You are not a Jew and therefore unqualified to pass judgment let alone teach Gentiles about Jewish Law.

No, I meant defend your family and destroy with extreme prejudice those that tried to hurt you and/or your family.
oh I agree which is why self defense is biblical and we are able to protect our loved ones in this country. Maybe not for long but its still the law here.

try trespassing and breaking into someones home in Texas and see what happens. The robber won't get a chance to commit his crimes :)

I think you must have me confused with someone else. I advocate reading scripture through the lens of Jewish monotheism, not through the eyes of gentiles.

Please see post #107.

Scripture read through the lens of trinitarianism, binitarianism, and even some forms of unitarianism, produces a different understanding of what is written by the Jews who wrote it.

Originally from Calif. But they have a saying here: "Don't Mess with Texas."
They are serious about their slogan.

That's fine.
But it is meant to be read as a Jew with Jewish background. If it is read like a Gentile who inserts Gentile interpretation minus Jewish meaning you come up with a lot of error.
Which is what has happened.

But you misinterpret "eye for eye" and Jesus' saying of "love your enemies."
You miss it entirely.

I haven’t actually said much about it.

I became involved in this thread because of the subject: The Golden Rule.

My question was in regard to whether or not a Christian could live by the Golden Rule while at the same time killing his enemies. It quickly moved from a military setting to a civilian setting.

Christian killing Christians. Is Jesus pleased with that?

Christians killing non-Christians. Is Jesus pleased with that?

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

What time is it?

Until the Messiah returns, now is not the time for me to kill my enemies.

And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one. For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, ‘AND HE WAS NUMBERED WITH TRANSGRESSORS’; for that which refers to Me has its fulfillment.” They said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.” Luke 22:36-38

Barnes agrees

1. That it is proper for people to provide beforehand for their wants, and for ministers and missionaries as well as any others.

2. That self-defense is lawful. Men encompassed with danger may lawfully "defend" their lives.

hope this helps !!!

There is a season turn turn turn......................................... A time for everything

Revelation 19
I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”[a] He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

king of kings and lord of lords.

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small.”

19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21 The rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.
