The authority of Jesus

THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS

Jesus spoke with an authority like no other. Time and again, He declared, “You have heard that it was said to those of old… but I say to you” (Matthew 5:21–22), boldly asserting His words as the final truth. Unlike the prophets who prefaced their messages with, “Thus saith the Lord,” Jesus spoke with divine certainty, saying, “Truly, I say to you.” His authority was not borrowed; it was inherent. He proclaimed, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18), leaving no doubt that His words carried the very weight of God’s own voice.

Unlike human teachers, Jesus never retracted a statement, never spoke with uncertainty, never contradicted Himself, and never apologized for His words. His message was — and remains — perfect and unshakable.

Those who heard Him speak knew they were witnessing something extraordinary. In Capernaum, the people “were astonished at his teaching, for his word possessed authority” (Luke 4:32). Matthew 7:28-29 tells us that “when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.”

The Pharisees and chief priests were so angry with Jesus that they sent officers to take Him. But they didn’t, for they said, “No one ever spoke like this man!” (John 7:46). Jesus’ words were not merely wise — they carried the power of God Himself.

The Gospel accounts leave no room for doubt — Jesus and His message are inseparable. His words had ultimate authority because He was (and is) God!

Do I hear an “Amen”?

Interesting, Civic.

Some or many who deny the Lord Jesus is God will claim He is a prophet, but not God. Yet being a prophet there is not one example from the Bible where Jesus said, "Thus saith the Lord."

Yes He spoke as if ( and He is ) God with His words carrying the exact same weight as YHWH. He commanded people follow Him as their Master/Lord. He is Unique among everyone in Scripture and we know the following which is the stumbling block for the unitarian.

Psalm 49:7- No one can by any means redeem another Or give God a ransom for him

They flee from this passage like cockroaches when they see the light go on in a dark room. For them to affirm this passage they must believe Jesus is more than a man, but that He is also God for only God can redeem mankind.

Our Glorious Kinsman Redeemer- God in the flesh.

AMEN !!!!

Amen.
While the scribes of that time, or any of us at the Forum at this time, have spoken what we think and interpret, Jesus spoke the words of the Father.
"For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak."
(John 12:49)
So, whoever treasures and follows the words of Jesus, if treasuring and following the Word of God, and has eternal life.

"I say to you, whoever hears my words and believes in the one who sent me possesses eternal life. He will not come to judgment but has passed from death to life." (John 5:24)
