The Acts 2 church

Just saying interesting facts about the Bible does not in fact teach the Bible.

There is a much better way to qualify..

We need to find for our self (by the leading of the Spirit in grace) a pastor-teacher who knows enough Hebrew and Greek, able to tell us how the King James translators messed up too many passages. A translation not worthy to be made into the god as the KJVO folks have done. Or, at least, a pastor who learns from a teacher who does teach from the Hebrew and Greek which are the languages of the Bible as God gave it to man.

My pastor traditionally began teaching his lessons by quoting a passage from the KJV before launching into the Hebrew or Greek, and having researched the historical intent.

At times the KJV was excellent, and even better than many modern translations because of a literal translation of a verse.
But, when it was bad (too many times) because of obscuring the intent... it became inexcusable.

That's precisely why Satan wants to promote KJVO for those who are made to feel secure using a translation that allows them to feel they are not dumb, but smarter than the rest when the others refuse its archaic and anachronistic language.

When I first started out as a babe in Christ?

I actually believed that a good pastor's job was to exegete the obscurities of the KJV English!
Just like I learned later they are really supposed to do for Greek and Hebrew!

Obscure language of archaic English can be manipulated to keep people ignorant. And to give them an illusion of being wiser than the rest when others reject them for it.

I realize what I say will not put a dent in the hardened KJVO mentality.

I say what I do not for them, but for those who wanting to learn the Word of God and sense there is something terribly wrong with their thinking.
i am not a kjvo i use kjv but i know very little Greek Hebrew and i disagree that one needs it to know the Bible.. i dont care for the Niv

Brother if my memory serves me right weren't you a pastor atone time ? Thanks !

If one wants to know the importance of the Greek and Hebrew, and find yourself without the ability to learn the languages with the depth required to do it Justice?

God has raised up men who can do so. In our day and age the lessons were captured on recorded media and now made available to all who so desire. These are in depth Bible classes presented before a congregation. God had this pastor teaching six nights a week. He worked very hard and studied long hours. You are hearing about him now... https://rbthieme.org/index.html#tabs-3

He was highly recommended to me when I was at Bible college by the professor of ancient languages while we were talking talking before a church service. But it was only later that I finally decided to give him a hearing. This teacher is not for everybody, for everybody is not for him. Peter taught the Jews, and Paul reached out to the gentiles.

He is a most valuable teaching tool from God. No money will be asked for. https://rbthieme.org/index.html#tabs-4

Both Chuck Swindoll and Hal Lindsay were members of his church, and Billy Graham once requested that he be his private mentor.

Yet? No one hears about him. God must lead the way for you. Feel free to criticize and reject without giving a hearing if you wish.

God always provides for those who seek him.

Thousands of hours of exegetical Bible lessons recorded.
Sent with money asked for : https://rbthieme.org/PDF/LessonListingForWeb2014.pdf

The problem I have with "Greek/Hebrew modern scholars" is the endless redefinitions we are getting from them.

The ancient men already defined it when it was closer to the originals, but now modern men that are 400 years farther removed from the ancient language think they know more than the ancients.

The modernists just get a PHD and want notoriety.

They add new definitions as they see fit.

Christendom is ignorantly buying their wares.

Ignorance is not a virtue.
But, ignorance is a means to keep one's cult ideas feeling safe.

Greek and Hebrew words are still being learned about.

If someone 2000 years from now heard Michael Jackson singing his song "I am Bad?"
Looking the word "bad" up in a concordance would give a totally wrong picture.

Good scholars read all sort of ancient manuscripts, and have discovered by how a word
was used back in the day, a correct perspective that get's locked into focus.

Bad scholarship is why some Christians are viewed as jerks.
Seen that way by those filled with the Holy Spirit.

God is not insecure. He let's those who are arrogant end up looking bad because they take pride in it.

“God resists (makes war against) the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you in due time."
1 Peter 5:5b-6

Note.. The arrogant believer exalts himself........ Not God.

All I can say, is you guys need to keep on digging. You’re bound to find the pure word of God somewhere in archaeology. Keep up the good work.

Us guys? We are not the scholars here. We may be students of them, but you would need to see what a real scholar can do to see what I speak of.

That’s true. You don’t have to be a scholar to dig a hole in the ground and find the word of God down there.

Why are you wanting to drag us down?

Colossians 2:2-3
My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love,
so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding,
in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

You sir, have no clue as to what the Word of God has buried in hidden treasure chests awaiting for qualified and smart men to dig out and open before all to see and grab to take in the wealth of understanding and insight.

Do you want to be dumb? No one should. For you have no idea what resides below the surface readings you make.
You don't have the training and tools, nor the gift, needed to be given the grace ability to become a blessing.
Just making sure the simple minded do not feel threatened or made to feel insecure, because their pride resents it.

Walking in grace is what you need.

For grace makes the simple to become wise.
But, not wise in their own eyes, like you keep working to perfect.

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony
of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Proverbs 19:7

Grace transforms the believer by overcoming our natural born deficiencies.
Grace does not make us to feel secure in our deficiencies.
It overcomes our deficiencies, and transforms us into the man God wants us to be.

Such transformation requires an accurate translation and gaining understanding of it to have God make wise the simple.

Taking a position and making it plain to everyone that I believe there is only one true English Bible translation to be called. The pure word of God is not dragging a person down. It’s fires people up. Let me tell you about an experience I had….

In the 90s, I was going through tremendous trials of my faith. I went to a conference and I was sitting way in the back, and the strangest thing happened to me. A brother came up and took me to the front row put me in his seat in the center aisle and sat on the floor for the entire service. I was humiliated at first until I saw what was going to happen. Brother Robert Bayer(aka the walking Bible) got up on preached on “the Bible the pure word of God” and he preached the most powerful message I have heard in my 44 years of being a Christian. he had the entire Bible memorized word for word. as a matter of fact, he never brings a Bible up to the pulpit. Yeah, he quotes chapter after chapter verbatim in the king James version. Yes, that is a fact. Everyone in the UPC knows of him. It tore the whole place up with revival and excitement for the Bible that we possess. This brother had no idea what he did for me. Who I am today as a King James only advocate and Bible teacher is a direct result of that incident . God did this to me. God wanted me right there in front and center.

Welll... Back on Ignore in this forum too.

Enjoy your own way of seeing things.

Does it say?

Peter was not commanded by the Lord to pick the replacement apostle.
He took it upon himself. He did not say that the Lord showed him it needed to be done.

Its the Holy Spirit that determines who gets which gift. 1 Corinthians 12:11
The Holy Spirit determined it was to be Paul.

Why does God allow for such mistakes to be recorded in the Word of God?

Well?

How many stupid things have we seen baby Christians do?
How many did you do as a baby Christian?

And, keep in mind. They were not even yet Christians when they drew straws for Matthias.

Not to mention, Peter was always the impulsive one of the twelve.

Yes... we are all human in need of transformation in our minds.
Only sound doctrine and the filling of the Spirit solves that problem.

Sound doctrine will be able to discern what Peter did.
Human speculation (sharing) will not.

Christ is building His Church. He doesn't replace, He adds.

"Let another man take his office" (Acts 1:20; cf. Psalm 109:8).

Peter was in error and disobedient.

An assertion without proof.

None of the evidence I supplied that Matthias was the correct choice has been refuted by anyone.

I'll repost what I wrote since no one has addressed the points I made:
Matthias is the correct choice.
1. God never condemned his apostleship.
2. Peter took his stand with him and the other apostles in the proclamation of the gospel (Acts 2:14).
3. He, and the other apostles, were addressed by the Jews after Peter's proclamation of the gospel (Acts 2:37).
4. Those who became believers "continued steadfastly" to his, and the other apostles, doctrine and fellowship (Acts 2:42).
5. He, and the other apostles, were able to perform wonders and signs (Acts 2:43).
6. He, and the other apostles, were put in prison by the high priest and Sadducees (Acts 5:18).
7. He, and the other apostles, were beaten for their faith by these officials (Acts 5:40).
8. He, and the other apostles, summoned the disciples to resolve the complaint by the Hellenistic believers (Acts 6:2).
9. He, and the other apostles, laid hands on the men that were put in charge of this task (Acts 6:6).
10. He, and the other apostles, sent Peter and John to Samaria (Acts 8:14).
11. He, and the other apostles, were there when Barnabas introduced Paul to them (Acts 9:27).
12. He, and the other apostles, made the authoritative decision at the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15:6, 22, 23; 16:4).

Peter made several mistakes in his early days. It was his personality type.

He made several mistakes recorded in Scripture.
God is trying to tell us something with Peter's example.

Which is........... We are saved by grace!

Here is Peter typically messing up ......
When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.
For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they
arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was
afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. The other Jews joined him in
his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray." Galatians 2:11-13

The moral of the story?

No one should become proud when you find God placed you with any gift.

For pride will be the reason the gift fails to be used for God's glory.
