One God

I read yesterday where someone was using Ex 20:3 as You shall have no other gods before or besides Me as proof that there must be other real gods.

I have always taken the scripture as "other gods" meaning Man-made gods or any kind of Idol. Since biblical teaching begins with the claim that there is only one God. This rules out all forms of polytheism. Moreover, Scripture makes it clear that this one God is Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He is not Baal, Molech, or any of the other pagan deities. Both OT and NT are very clear about this.

There is only one Yahweh; no one else qualifies as God. Other peoples have their own gods, but Israel’s God is Yahweh alone. For Jews and Christians, the God of the Bible is the true and living God, so no other god is real. In light of Yahweh alone being God, He tells Israel to “love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” God command Israel to “have no other gods before Me.” Because He is the only true real God, all the rest are man-made.

8 You shall not make for yourself [to worship] a graven image or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the water under the earth.
9 You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God,

"God" is not only a "Person" it is also a "position".

"Before me" is a reference relative to position. Many an inanimate object has taken the place/rank of "God" on man's lives.

1Co 12:2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

Jer 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
Jer 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

the "other gods" are fallen angels, which are NOT gods(elohim) but deceive mankind into believing they are.

The 'trick' is to have men worshipping the UNSEEN thru hand-crafted idols/statues = modern day Roman Catholic Church.
The 'treat' is that by mankind worshipping these idols/false gods, they will receive 'blessings' from beyond this realm.
Furthermore, the other 'treats' offered by the fallen angels/demons is unrestrained sexual immorality and prosperity.

This is why the TRUE LIVING ELOHIM, who is Above all, warns us not to be 'TRICKED' and thereby enter in His Judgment.

Revelation 9:20
But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk.
And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.
