The acrostic TULIP, which summarizes the Five Points of Calvinism, was not directly created by John Calvin himself but was popularized later, particularly in the early 20th century. The origins of the five points can be traced back to the Synod of Dort in the early 17th century, which responded to the teachings of Jacobus Arminius.
Would that not make a great name for a group? Johnnie and the Dorts?????
But Calvin was the one who made them popular..... You cannot talk of TULIP without Calvin. When you subscribe to Tulip Calvin is in the middle....
You call them Tulip..... Tip Toe through and all that rot.....
The Five Points of Calvinism constitute a summary of soteriology in Reformed Christianity. Named after John Calvin, they largely reflect the teaching of the Canons of Dort. The five points assert that God saves every person upon whom he has mercy, and that his efforts are not frustrated by the unrighteousness or inability of humans. They are occasionally known by the acrostic TULIP: total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and perseverance of the saints Continued in Wikipedia
Calvin was on the scene preaching before Dort ever thought to be formed and coalesce ...
The Five Points of Calvinism are often summarized by the acronym “TULIP.” They stem from teachings historically identified with the 16th-century Reformer John Calvin, though they were refined and formally expressed during the Synod of Dort (1618-1619).
John Calvin began developing the ideas that would form Calvinism after he published his seminal work, "Institutes of the Christian Religion," in 1536. This work laid the foundation for his theological system, which became influential during the Protestant Reformation
And as mentioned the Synod of Dort which had its meeting to try and come up with the way to knock off Arminianism and their rising in the theological ranks got hold of these ideas... and ran away with them.
FOR PETE'S SAKE... LEARN THE HISTORY OF WHAT YOU BELIEVE..... YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED.
YOUR STATEMENT OF " Men have just placed contempt on the Gospel by calling it Calvinism" tells us all that you have no idea where what you even believe originated from.
If the conversation is limited solely to what John Calvin personally wrote, then the conversation changes dramatically.
I'd like to make an observation.....
When it comes to Dort and WC, they all have the same issue that the law of Moses had. In fact, Calvinists basically follow the laws of Dort/WC more closely than the law of Moses.
In other words "They have their own laws".....
One problem with most any "law", all laws require a judge to discern between innocence and culpability. To judge intent and circumstances.
This is where the individual always becomes the "judge" themselves. Personal problems....
