In Jesus' letters to the seven churches of Revelation 2 and 3, Sardis is the era of the Reformation that lasts for about 500 years give or take a couple decades. John Calvin and Martin Luther are noted for leaving the pagan doctrines that the Roman church added to help the pagans feel more comfortable changing beliefs when paganism became illegal and Christianity became the state religion. Jesus said that the Reformation had "a name that they are alive, but they are dead." But then in verse 4 of chapter 3 that even in this era of Sardis there are "some who have not defiled their garments and walk with me in white for they are worthy." That was the Methodists until they recently went WOKE. Those teachings are what we need to discern and leave the chaff to burn.
Many Protestants still believe the dead doctrines of the Reformation. Jesus also told them to make sure they keep some of the correct doctrines of the RCC, but I still hear Protestant denominations of both C and A make statements like "sin is sin" and others like "we are all still sinners saved by grace" and "we are in the flesh as long as we are in these sinful bodies." Do you know what the Bible actually says about our sin?
Here is the belief from the RCC that is Scriptural. There are two types of sin. Sins unto death called mortal sins and sins NOT unto death called venial sins. Unless you can help me find others 1 John 5:16-17 is the only passage I know of in the New Testament that makes the distinction that the Old Covenant made in Numbers 15:22-29 (venial) and 30-36 (mortal).
If you believe the errors. that doesn't mean you can't be saved, but everyone on here is a teacher to some degree. 1 Corinthians 3:15 talks of our work. That is talking of our beliefs that we pass on to others. " If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire." But it would be better to learn and pass on the Scriptural truth of what Jesus actually accomplished. He takes away our sin and even the DESIRE to sin, and doesn't just cover it up.
