What matters about election is what God says about it. Knowing what God says, I question the quotation of Grudem -- the reason for election is God's sovereign choice? The reason? I love God's choosing, His election, but the reason for it is God's sovereign choice? Where does scripture say that? And isn't "election" itself simply "God's choice"? Election is His choice, not the reason for His choice.Sovereignty of God still in action
So God was controlling Hamas when they cut the fingers of a 7 year-old Israeli boy off and the foot of his little sister? God was controlling Hamas when they beheaded babies and baked them in ovens? God was controlling Hamas when they raped women and machine-gunned whole families?Everyone is controlled by God at all times, even satan
It is @brightfame52's god who is in control of those satanic events, who can be no one other, by sheer deduction, than satan himself. It all makes sense now.So God was controlling Hamas when they cut the fingers of a 7 year-old Israeli boy off and the foot of his little sister? God was controlling Hamas when they beheaded babies and baked them in ovens? God was controlling Hamas when they raped women and machine-gunned whole families?
God was in control when Hamas terrorists called their mothers to brag about how many Jews they slaughtered? And God was in control when those same mothers were filled with joy to hear of the innocent Jewish children and babies and elderly being tortured and the young girls being raped - by their sons?
FALSEThose scriptures are about the elect.
But you think you are??Everyone aint elect
Once one accepts that false doctrine of Total Depravity, the false Calvinist doctrine of election must follow. With Total Depravity and without the Calvinist election then the whole of mankind would be eternally condemned. Total Depravity is not derived from the scriptures but from Augustine's Manichaeism which he carried over into his Christian theology.A lot of twisting going on-here, read the article.
I have a theory or opinion about Calvinists. Even if it were true, I can't see one of them admitting it, but I think that Calvinists feel ashamed of their view of God, which is why they keep barking about these points that don't plainly follow from the text of scripture. Their emotion, often anger, comes out of that shame. I expect Calvinists to mock this. But they know why people don't believe it. People who reject the points of Calvin can't wrap their brain around the idea that God has predetermined people to heaven and to hell. Scripture doesn't come out and say that. Calvinists get that idea from a kind of deduction that I don't think we should call logical. All teaching in scripture included, the Calvinist idea isn't supported. It isn't logical because the premises of Calvinism aren't all true.

Many struggle with assurance of salvation in Christ, and when they encounter teachings on election and total depravity, they may stumble and be drawn away. "But he who received the seed by the wayside is the one who hears the word and does not understand it; then the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart" (Matt 13:19).Once one accepts that false doctrine of Total Depravity, the false Calvinist doctrine of election must follow. With Total Depravity and without the Calvinist election then the whole of mankind would be eternally condemned. @ProDeo said....Those scriptures are about the elect.
Those that look at the Hebrew Scripture with a Gentile mindset formed by western thought will see the Hebrew Scripture from Genesis to Revelation as though God is addressing non-Hebrew Gentiles, but the context is "Jews" since Jesus Christ came to save "His people" (Matt. 1:21) and His people are the Jews. All twelve tribes plus one.FALSE
1Tim 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
1Tim 2:2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
1Tim 2:3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
1Tim 2:4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1Tim 2:5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
The good Lord desires all people to be saved and He has given the means, the mediator Christ Jesus.
In your theology God does not desire all people to be saved.
You are adding to Scripture, where is the word elect in the passage?
Nowhere.
You are doing the same as @jeremiah1five , he adds the word Jews to the passage, also nowhere in the passage.
-----
Let's see what you further have to add to Scripture to make your false belief believable to yourself.
1 John 2:2 - He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. [Scripture]
1 John 2:2 -He is the propitiation for our sins (the elect), and not for ours (the elect) only but also for the sins of the (elected) whole world. [YOU]
John 1:29 - The next day he [John the Baptist] saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! [Scripture]
John 1:29 - The next day he [John the Baptist] saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the (elected) world! [YOU]
You might even believe Jesus only died for the elect ?
When one comes to understand the elect of God are the seed of Abraham then they will read the Scripture in context to whom it was sent to: the children of Israel, the Jews.@ProDeo said....
For a moment, forget everything you learned and focus on the below Scripture passage.

Since when do you @brightfame52 include ALL in the elect?

You keep forgetting about the New Covenant that your favorite Apostle of all times (Paul) allowed Gentiles to participate in as the Lord's Supper. Come out and say that you love Paul. Don't be shy. When one comes to understand the elect of God are the seed of Abraham then they will read the Scripture in context to whom it was sent to: the children of Israel, the Jews.
So "all" and "world" and other words that would lead the Gentile mindset to interpret these words in the 21st century and in English miss the point. Israel is the Bride, the Church, the People of God. When one comes to understand to whom Messiah was prophesied to and for, then that person has come to the knowledge of the truth.
God promised nothing to Gentiles.
But God has promised ALL to the Jews.
Read it as intended. God's love letter to His elect people: the Jews.
i have a word for thatMan does not CHOOSE God.
Man is UNABLE to seek God apart from Christ.
Jesus' atonement is exclusively for God's chosen people.
God's Grace cannot be resisted.
Man has a self-will in unsaved individuals or a will bearing the image of Christ in saved individuals; moreover, no other type of will exists for man.
The ABOVE is what you will never show to be incorrect.
Man does not CHOOSE God.
This is Truth (John 14:6).
The Word of God “you did not choose Me, but I chose you” (John 15:16) and “I chose you out of the world” (John 15:19, includes salvation) nullifies your thought's first point of "God does not CHOOSE who will be saved" before you even scribed it.
Man is UNABLE to seek God apart from Christ.
This is Truth (John 14:6).
The Word of God “he who practices the Truth comes to the Light, that his works may be revealed, that they are having been worked in God” (John 3:21) nullifies your thought's second point of "Man is ABLE to seek God [apart from God]" before you even scribed it.
Jesus' atonement is exclusively for God's chosen people.
This is Truth (John 14:6).
The Word of God “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the Truth. Everyone who is of the Truth hears My voice” (John 18:37) and "I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father except because of Me" (John 14:6) and "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28) ("many" is the Word, not "EVERYONE") nullifies your thought's second point of "Jesus atonement is for EVERYONE" before you even scribed it.
God's Grace cannot be resisted.
This is Truth (John 14:6).
This deductive reasoning
shows your thought's third point of "God's grace can be resisted" results in God's love forever burning in hell according to your thoughts.
- God loves Daphne of the world before and after Daphne hears of Christ. Daphne chose to love/believe in Christ, so God rewards Daphne with eternal life.
- God loves Fred of the world before and after Fred hears of Christ. Fred chose not to love/believe in Christ, so God punishes Fred with eternal death.
- Conclusion: the Love of God is so very weak that people like Fred draw the Love of God to burn in hell for eternity according to your Free-willian Philosophy.
Man has a self-will in unsaved individuals (2 Peter 2:9-10) or a will bearing the image of Christ in saved individuals (Romans 8:29); moreover, no other type of will exists for man.
This is Truth (John 14:6).
In the absence of the Word of God declaring man was imparted a free-will, your heart (Matthew 15:16-19, Matthew 6:21) awards yourself a free-will with your self-assigned God power "Man has Free Will" of your thought's fifth point. God never imparted Adam nor you nor anyone with a free-will, but you were created with a self-will (2 Peter 2:9-10).
So, your Free-willian Philosophy folds into itself causing catastrophic confusion and calamity inside your self-willed (2 Peter 2:9-10) distorted non-gospel points (Galatians 1:7) - you believe Jesus Christ is not who Lord Jesus Christ says He is!
In other words, your points after "God does not CHOOSE who will be saved" are smashed because your leading point is demolished.
Self-will or image of Christ will

They most certainly are an arrogant, narcissistic bunch. Strange, since they can never know for sure that they are among the elect.i have a word for that

But I know some, such as @Red Baker who posts here, that are dedicated believing children of God. I am convinced that in spite of their adherence to such a false gospel and a false doctrine of soteriology have been accepted by God and have eternal life. This weak doctrine can unsettle and emotionally manipulate those who are young and not yet firmly grounded in Christ Jesus. @Jim
Glad this put a smile on your face @synergy--this is absolutely absurd on the ooother side. This weak doctrine can unsettle and emotionally manipulate those who are young and not yet firmly grounded in Christ Jesus. @Jim
