Women in Ministry

I'm amused by the part where he says, "We haven't been drinking new wine! It's only 9AM!" As opposed to "We haven't been drinking wine! We're good Christians who would never touch alcohol!"

I'm amused by the part where he says, "We haven't been drinking new wine! It's only 9AM!" As opposed to "We haven't been drinking wine! We're good Christians who would never touch alcohol!"

That's a lie.

We are never to get drunk.
Not never touch alcohol.

Otherwise?

Jesus was setting a bad example by citing new wine in old wine skins.
For its the fermenting grape that that produces alcohol that causes the previously stretched skins to burst.

Not to mention... The miracle of Jesus making the best tasting wine from water for the wedding.

Such legalism is what turned off my Jewish father when trying to witness to him...
It made it difficult for him, for he wanted no part of such childish thinking.

John 2:8-10
Then he (Jesus) told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.
He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.
Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then
the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till
now.”

We must be honest in witnessing to the world!
Not end up looking like naive children who believe in Santa Claus.

Jesus knew excellent wine!

Just don't get drunk........ That is what the Bible is against.

At Pentecost when they spoke in tongues? The Spirit inside was working outwardly nad filling them.

Romans 8:9a

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. "
did Peter have the Holy Ghost in him before Pentecost? YES, John 20:22 "And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:" but was he empowered to speak in tongues yet ... ect....? NO, Acts 1:8 "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." HOLD IT, did he not already had received the Holy Spirit, according to John 20:22? understand by the washing away of sin in the world by the Lord Jesus we all have the Spirit. many have the Spirit but some needs stirring up of the Spirit... Active. as with Peter and the rest. they had the Spirit, but now the need to "WORK" is the activation of the Spirit in them. many people have the Spirit in them and don't know what to do.

yes, saved...... just as the apostles, sitting in the room, Idle, (nothing to do), with the doors closed. but when the time for work came, the Spirit EMPOWERED them. yes, they had the Spirit, but until they woke up, by the alarm clock/the work at hand they were just IDLE. understand, the HELPER, the Holy Spirit, is called a Helper, because a helper does not do the work for you, but help U do the work. and if you are not doing anything the helper has nothing to do. that's why as the apostle said via the Holy Spirit to timothy, "STIR UP THE GIFT IN YOU" translation. ...... "do something". but many say what am I to do. t5his is where we have guidance counselors or ELDERS to allow the younger one to engage in the work of the Lord. there are many types of work for the Lord. and it just don't have to be in MINISTRY... "BOOKEEPING", "COOKING", cleaning, driving, computers, ect..... one Body, but many members, there is a gift for everyone.

just as the apostle Paul and Jame the apostle both agree. "one do not work to get save, but one work because they are saved.". just as with the Spiritual Gifts, one is not "GIFTED" to be save, one is "GIFTED" because they are saved.

John 7:38-39

Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that
time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified." John 7:38-39

The Holy Spirit could not indwell (take up permanent residence) until after Jesus ascended and was *glorified.*

Before Jesus was glorified? Believers could receive enabling of the Spirit.
But, like with David and Samson had.... the Spirit could be removed.

Psalm 51:11
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me."

It takes time to learn all this.

But your reply is a typical stereotype.

go by what the Bible teaches.
Boy, the quality of posts here has declined dramatically.

I read recently that nearly 70% of people in church are women. Who do you expect to be in ministry?

The issue of women in authority does not replace the Biblical record of women in ministry. Is our sexism and ego so extreme that we will self-righteously waste God-given resources to fulfill the Great Commission? Say it aint so!!!

"Go by what the Bible teaches!" It has universal applicability. That could be put in every thread. It really does not advance the conversation one iota. Have the courage to go to the next level of detail, as @Aeliana has. Have the courage to reconcile Scripture that may appear to contradict, especially given the sensibilities of our culture ... Geesh!!!

I think there should be a distinction made between God given roles in the church and ministry just like in the home. You can and should have both in the home and church but their functions/roles look different the way God has designed them to work.

No, I am just sick of this "What about my rights attitude!?" that so poisons much of the church/family in the West.

Men ought to be in charge in both areas.

was the Lord Jesus in Natural flesh living by blood at John 20? no? Gene .... pitiful, just pitiful
The Holy Spirit could not indwell (take up permanent residence) until after Jesus ascended and was *glorified.*
ERROR, was not John the Baptist born with the Spirit? now post the scripture where the Spirit left him?
Psalm 51:11Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me."

(smile), it sure do....... LOL, LOL, LOL, Oh Dear. Oh the slow of heart.

ERROR, men was to take care of the Family, a woman role is HELP ...... MEET, not Help .... MATE. meaning she is an "AIDE" unto her husband. just LIKE the Holy Spirit a "HELPER" ... not to do it for you, but to H...E....L...P or assist you in the work. so don't dump the house chores on the Woman, it's man responsibility to take care of his home. the woman is not a slave of her Husband, not the husband to the wife, but an "AIDE" to each other. as a matter of FACT, it is the Man/husband to serve ..... "FIRST". this other stuff is man inventions.

Have to start simple.

One baby step at a time...

1 John 1:9 is toilet training for them...
toilet training? was not the spirit given in the OT before? yes, Exodus 31:1 "And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying," Exodus 31:2 "See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:" Exodus 31:3 "And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,"

Careful... (not, "careless)

"Because he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to drink wine or beer.
He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb." Luke 1:15

It says what? ..... Born, filled with the Spirit.

It does not say, "indwelt" by the Spirit.

John the Baptist born filled with spirit only....

All babies, if they die before reaching the age of accountability? They go to heaven...
So? God could fill John with the Spirit at birth without a problem.

John understood 1 John 1:9 ... that means..
He knew how to remain constantly filled with the Spirit once he was old enough to know he had a sin nature.

And, yes. The Holy Spirit was removed from certain OT believers if they refused to acknowledge their sins before God.
And, as with Samson... filled with the Spirit as God deemed needed.

So much to learn...

And, practice what your alter ego,101G , preaches.
101G Motto

101G.

That shows how the filling of the Spirit works as God wills it.

The indwelling of the Spirit is different than filling...
The indwelling transforms those who accept sound doctrine into the "image of Christ."
The filling only programs one to perform a function that God wants done.

No believer was 'indwelt' until after Jesus was glorified.
I already showed you how that is so...

practice what you claim to be true.....

Very ... Jeremiah 35.

As Christian Women our desire is to free ourselves from the stereotypes and expectations people have of us, we have to begin by recognizing those stereotypes.
Speak for yourself. My desire is to do the will of the Father and I begin by recognising the truth of scripture not some humanistic approach as to how I may or may not be categorised by man.

John 8:32
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Very ... Jeremiah 35.

Not sure how you are interpreting the entire chapter of Jeremiah 35.
That was a group who swore never to touch drink. Just like John the Baptist abstained.

That has nothing to do with the general tenor of the Law concerning drinking wine.

For example....

While I lived as a Jew we were encouraged to drink several glasses of wine with the Passover Seder meal as a *requirement.*.

So? I do not know where you are coming from in reference to your citing Jeremiah 35.

That's the only limitation I see. But if there's no man to teach I see no problem for a woman to be able to teach. As far as the being silent in church part. I think that's talking about don't ask a bunch of questions wait till you get home and ask your husband.

Today in our culture just about every church has a women's ministry. Remember that old saying "Don't put God In the box". He can make the stones cry out if he wants to use a woman in Ministry he will.

Paul forbid specifically any woman taking authority over a man in teaching.....

"I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent."

If there are only women in your church? Who knows.
