Joshua chapter 8 tells the account of the destruction of the city of Ai by Joshua and the Israelites. Is that God a sadist? Why would the God of Joshua 8 not also be able to have eternal punishment for those who reject him eternally?

Sin is an eternal offense against an eternal God. Grace is an eternal solution to the eternal offense. Grace rejected is the eternal repudiation of that solution and is met with the eternal consequences for that rejection.
