Scripture is inspired by the Spirit but that does not mean you must be regenerated/made alive/indwelled before you can understanding comes by the Spirit.

Yes it’s wishful thinking at best

How did you come to understand? By the Spirit correct? Prior to conversion?

By connecting new information to what I already knew.

By asking question of people who I trusted and knowing what was
expected of me.

We are talking about 6 1/2 decades ago and the process is a little fuzzy.

Back then I never had a driving force to understand. But I had a driving force to be
accepted. That is not until I learned what Jesus had done for me on the cross.

And then I learned that not all churches approach this the same way with the
children ....

My experiences with the Spirit have grown over my life. But I do not feel as if initially He
was involved in my understanding or coming to faith
