The Secret Motive Behind Free Will

“God sovereignly decreed that man should be free to exercise moral choice, and man from the beginning has fulfilled that decree by making his choice between good and evil. When he chooses to do evil, he does not thereby countervail the sovereign will of God but fulfills it, inasmuch as the eternal decree decided not which choice the man should make but that he should be free to make it. If in His absolute freedom God has willed to give man limited freedom, who is there to stay His hand or say, ‘What doest thou?’ Man’s will is free because God is sovereign. A God less than sovereign could not bestow moral freedom upon His creatures. He would be afraid to do so.” – A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy

A.W. Tozer was a poor theologian. For example, on the subject of divorce, he said that if you divorce as unsaved, you must not remarry after you're saved. He justified that position by comparing it to being a convict in jail. You aren't set from from jail just because you become a Christian. You must still obey the law and submit to the consequences.

But an unsaved divorcee was divorced through the law and paid the consequences. He wasn't set free because he became a Christian. He was set free because the law was served.

You can't mix and match civil, criminal, and God's law to support a legalistic view that you favor.

So, your appeal to authority is worth no more than your logic about what a loving God would do, and that amounts to less than nothing. And it is insulting to treat A.W Tozer's opinion as if it were scriptural. Quote scripture as saying that "God sovereignly decreed that man should be free to exercise moral choice". It's not there. It's only in your head.

Yes like tulip is not there so toss out every single Calvinist theologian in history since they are the “ poorest” in the class of scholars .

Hope this helps !!!

It doesn't matter. If what he says has logical truth to it, it doesn't matter what else he says. If a man believes 2+2=4 and explains why, is that invalidated if he believes in a flat earth? It's a genetic fallacy. Truth statements stand on their own regardless of who made them.

So, your appeal to authority is worth no more than your logic about what a loving God would do, and that amounts to less than nothing.

I was not "appealing to authority," rather I was illustrating that the concept of free will in no way logically contradicts God's sovereignty.

And it is insulting to treat A.W Tozer's opinion as if it were scriptural.

It's insulting for you to imply I did that, lol.

Quote scripture as saying that "God sovereignly decreed that man should be free to exercise moral choice".

"I set before you life and death. Choose ye this day whom ye will serve."

Here's what "your" version would have to say:

"I set before you my predestined end. I have chosen this day whom ye will serve."

To quote someone I know: "It's not there. It's only in your head."

Look. If there was a Scripture that said, "Calvinism is not true saith the Lord," I don't believe you would accept it. You would find some way around it. You seem dead set on your ways regardless of what Scripture actually says. You always FORCE it to mean Calvinism NO MATTER WHAT.

God gave us 10 commandments and many laws. Can you obey them of your own free will?

Telling people what to "choose" does not prove scripture says they have the ability. In fact, the law and its commandments were meant to make them aware of their inability.

Yes that is the commands of Moses. But he showed us this so that we CAN DO and should do what?
