Jesus is God, One with the Father

'Hear, O Israel:
The LORD our God is
one LORD:
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God
with all thine heart,
and with all thy soul,
and with all thy might.'

(Deu 6:4-5)

Hello @civic,

This caught my eye this week in my marginal notes, regarding the word, 'One' in Deuteronomy 6:4 above, and I thought it would be good to share it here:-

ONE:- Hebrew ’ehad (H259) = a compound unity (Latin. unus), one made up of others:

Examples of Scriptural usage:-
Gen_1:5, one of seven;
Deu_2:11, one of four;
Deu_2:21, one of twenty-four;
Deu_2:24, one made up of two;
Deu_3:22, one of the Trinity:
Deu_49:16, one of twelve;
Num_13:23, one of a cluster.

In Christ Jesus
Chris
thanks !!

' I and my Father are one. '
(Joh 10:30)

'One' :- Greek 'hen'. Neut., one in essence, not one person which would be heir, masculine.
This is the climax of His claim to oneness with the Father in verses: Joh_10:18, Joh_10:25, Joh_10:28, Joh_18:29.
Compare also Joh_10:38; Joh_14:11. Rev_22:3.' (The Companion Bible)

'No man taketh it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself.
I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.
This commandment have I received of My Father.'

(Joh 10:18)

'Jesus answered them,
I told you, and ye believed not:
the works that I do in My Father's name,
they bear witness of Me.'

(Joh 10:25)

'And I give unto them eternal life;
and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand.
My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all;
and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand.'

(Joh 10:28-29)

'But if I do, though ye believe not Me, believe the works:
that ye may know, and believe,
that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.'

(Joh 10:38)

'Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me:
or else believe Me for the very works' sake.'

(Joh 14:11)

'And there shall be no more curse:
but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it;
and His servants shall serve Him:'

(Rev 22:3)

Praise God!
For His mercy and His grace.

In Christ Jesus
our risen and glorified
Saviour, Lord and Head.

echad - the Hebrew word for ONE - numerical oneness, unity or uniqueness.

It can be understood in a collective sense as in a cluster of grapes which is multiple grapes NOT one, one grape is not a cluster of grapes; as in one herd are multiple cows - one cow is not a herd; A man and woman becoming 'one flesh' - still TWO human beings not one human being. Seven days are in a week but one day is not a week; twelve men are twelve individuals but one is not twelve;

It is used of Yahweh because Yahweh our God is one Yahweh and there are no other gods beside him. This should be the foundation, the starting point of every Christian......after all it is the greatest commandment per Jesus Mark 12:29 ---- when this becomes the foundation of each Christian --- we are not far from the kingdom of God.
