Jesus is God, One with the Father

'Hear, O Israel:
The LORD our God is
one LORD:
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God
with all thine heart,
and with all thy soul,
and with all thy might.'

(Deu 6:4-5)

Hello @civic,

This caught my eye this week in my marginal notes, regarding the word, 'One' in Deuteronomy 6:4 above, and I thought it would be good to share it here:-

ONE:- Hebrew ’ehad (H259) = a compound unity (Latin. unus), one made up of others:

Examples of Scriptural usage:-
Gen_1:5, one of seven;
Deu_2:11, one of four;
Deu_2:21, one of twenty-four;
Deu_2:24, one made up of two;
Deu_3:22, one of the Trinity:
Deu_49:16, one of twelve;
Num_13:23, one of a cluster.

In Christ Jesus
Chris
thanks !!

' I and my Father are one. '
(Joh 10:30)

'One' :- Greek 'hen'. Neut., one in essence, not one person which would be heir, masculine.
This is the climax of His claim to oneness with the Father in verses: Joh_10:18, Joh_10:25, Joh_10:28, Joh_18:29.
Compare also Joh_10:38; Joh_14:11. Rev_22:3.' (The Companion Bible)

'No man taketh it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself.
I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.
This commandment have I received of My Father.'

(Joh 10:18)

'Jesus answered them,
I told you, and ye believed not:
the works that I do in My Father's name,
they bear witness of Me.'

(Joh 10:25)

'And I give unto them eternal life;
and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand.
My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all;
and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand.'

(Joh 10:28-29)

'But if I do, though ye believe not Me, believe the works:
that ye may know, and believe,
that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.'

(Joh 10:38)

'Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me:
or else believe Me for the very works' sake.'

(Joh 14:11)

'And there shall be no more curse:
but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it;
and His servants shall serve Him:'

(Rev 22:3)

Praise God!
For His mercy and His grace.

In Christ Jesus
our risen and glorified
Saviour, Lord and Head.

echad - the Hebrew word for ONE - numerical oneness, unity or uniqueness.

It can be understood in a collective sense as in a cluster of grapes which is multiple grapes NOT one, one grape is not a cluster of grapes; as in one herd are multiple cows - one cow is not a herd; A man and woman becoming 'one flesh' - still TWO human beings not one human being. Seven days are in a week but one day is not a week; twelve men are twelve individuals but one is not twelve;

It is used of Yahweh because Yahweh our God is one Yahweh and there are no other gods beside him. This should be the foundation, the starting point of every Christian......after all it is the greatest commandment per Jesus Mark 12:29 ---- when this becomes the foundation of each Christian --- we are not far from the kingdom of God.

How could Jesus not be God when He receives the same universal worship as God from all creatures Rev 5:11-13

11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

Look at Vs 11, how man Angels around about the Throne Worship Him ?

Now remember God shares His Glory with no other Isa 42 8

I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

two separate persons here --- the one who sits on the throne and to the Lamb, aka Jesus
Worthy is the Lamb aka Jesus TO RECEIVE power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, and glory and blessing - through Jesus death and resurrection, he has proven himself worthy to receive these things -- God, who sits on the throne already possesses these things.
Now remember God shares His Glory with no other Isa 42 8

I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
Right, Yahweh will not give his glory or his praise to graven images.

Right both receiving the same Honor and Glory @ the same time ! They are equal Phil 2:6

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Jn 5:18

Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

Jesus deserves the same Honor as the Father does Jn 5:23

That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

Now if Jesus wasnt God, equal with the One God, God lied here Isa 42:8

8 I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

The word glory here is the hebrew word kāḇôḏ and its translated honour 32 x in the OT
Ps 26 8

8 Lord[Jehovah], I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honour dwelleth.
Ps 145 5

5 I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.

Nor to another ! That word another means:

another, other, following
  1. following, further
  2. other, different
I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols.
the no other is right there in the verse .... my glory, nor my praise do I give to no other, aka carved idols
Carved idols are different others!

I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols.
the no other is right there in the verse .... my glory,
I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols.

Playing your word games wont help you. God plainly says He gives His glory to no other.

John Gill writes of Jn 5:23

That all men should honour the Son,.... This is the end of all judgment, and the exercise of all authority, and power being committed to him; namely, that he might have the honour given him by men that is due unto him:
even as they honour the Father; that the same honour and glory may be given to the one, as to the other, which must never have been done was he not equal with him, since he gives not his glory to another, Isaiah 42:8.
