Jesus denied being God

I see you're just going to keep repeating the same things since you have done so for atleast two comments now. Let's go ahead and take your toys away. Ready for most of the titles Jesus and God don't share with each other? Let's do it.

And i see you are going to ignore them

Jesus isn't the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob:

Acts 3
13The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus.
You seem to forget Jesus was also a man

Jesus isn't the only true God:

John 17
3Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

1 John 5:20 (KJV 1900) — 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Jesus isn't the Lord of heaven and earth:

Matt 11
25At that time Jesus declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.

Um Christ is the lord of lord

Revelation 17:14 (KJV 1900) — 14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

Revelation 19:16 (KJV 1900) — 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Acts 17
24The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples made by human hands. 25Nor is He served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.
Christ made this world

John 1:3 (KJV 1900) — 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Colossians 1:16 (KJV 1900) — 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Jesus isn't the Holy Spirit:

Matt 12
32Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the one to come.
No one believes he is

Jesus isn't the Lord God Almighty:

Revelation 1
8“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and was and is to come—the Almighty.
Um Christ is alpha and Omega and he is coming

Revelation 1:5–8 (KJV 1900) — 5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. 8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Revelation 22:12–21 (KJV 1900) — 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. 16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. 20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Revelation 21
22But I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

Both are the temple. Another reality shared between the Father and the son

Jesus isn't YHWH:
Psalm 2
7I will proclaim the decree spoken to Me by the LORD: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.
The son is not the father and the father is not the son. Trinitarians do not deny this

The son is of the same nature as the father

Psalm 110
1The LORD[YHWH] said to my Lord:[Jesus]
“Sit at My right hand
until I make Your enemies
a footstool for Your feet.
The risen Christ is at the fathers side and all enemies are being made his footstool

Jesus isn't the Sovereign Lord and Creator:

Acts 4
24When the believers heard this, they lifted up their voices to God with one accord. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “You made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them.

Jesus made the heavens and the earth

John 1:3 (KJV 1900) — 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Colossians 1:16–17 (KJV 1900) — 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Hebrews 1:10 (KJV 1900) — 10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

Deity of Christ Verse List

The doctrine of the deity of Christ says that Jesus possesses a truly divine nature. It does not deny that

he possesses a truly human nature also, with all of its attendant properties intact and unconfused (which

is the corresponding doctrine of the hypostatic union or dual natures of Christ). But it affirms that he is

as to his deity, in the language of the Nicene Creed, “the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the

Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being

with the Father.” Here is a sweeping survey of the biblical support for the doctrine.

God

There is only one God.

Deuteronomy 6:4 - “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

Deuteronomy 4:35 - To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord is God; there is

no other besides him.

Isaiah 43:10 - “You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have

chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was

formed, nor shall there be any after me.

• etc., etc., etc.

Yet Jesus is called God.

John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:18 - No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made

him known.

Titus 2:13 - waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and

Savior Jesus Christ
1

2 Peter 1:1 - Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a

faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ1

Isaiah 9:6 - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his

shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,

Prince of Peace.

Romans 9:5 - To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the

Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.

Hebrews 1:8 - But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of

uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.

John 20:28-29 - Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you

believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have

believed.”

• c.f. Matthew 1:21-23

Jehovah

The New Testament cites numerous Old Testament passages about Jehovah and refers them to Jesus.

Hebrews 1:8-12 - But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter

of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated

wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your

companions.” And, “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the

heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like

a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are

the same, and your years will have no end.”

Psalm 102:25-27 - [Hear my prayer, O Lord [Jehovah]] Of old you laid the foundation of the

earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they

will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but

you are the same, and your years have no end.

John 12:36-41 - When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them.

Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, so that the

word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed what he heard

from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” Therefore they could not

believe. For again Isaiah said, “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see

with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.” Isaiah said

these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him.

Isaiah 6:1-10 - In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and

lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six

wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord [Jehovah] of hosts; the whole

earth is full of his glory!” And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who

called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a

man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen

the King, the Lord [Jehovah] of hosts
!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand

a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said:

“Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” And I

heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said,

“Here I am! Send me.” And he said, “Go, and say to this people: “‘Keep on hearing, but do not

understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’ Make the heart of this people dull, and their

ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and

understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”

Ephesians 4:7-8 - But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s

gift. Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to

men.”

Psalm 68:18 - You ascended on high, leading a host of captives in your train and receiving gifts

among men, even among the rebellious, that the Lord God may dwell there.

1 Peter 2:4-8 - As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God

chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to

be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it

stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious,

and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” So the honor is for you who believe, but

for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”

and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” (c.f. Luke 2:34)

Isaiah 8:13-14 - But the Lord [Jehovah] of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your

fear, and let him be your dread. And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a

rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel
, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Romans 10:9-13 - because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in

your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes

and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says,

“Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between

Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.

For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (c.f. Romans 9:33)

Joel 2:32 - And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord [Jehovah]

shall be saved.

Revelation 1:7 - Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those

who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

Zechariah 12:1,10 - The oracle of the word of the Lord concerning Israel: Thus declares the

Lord [Jehovah]… “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a

spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have

pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him,

as one weeps over a firstborn.

Mark 1:1-3 - The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in

Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way,

the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths

straight,’” (c.f. Matthew 3:3; Luke 3:4; John 1:23)

Isaiah 40:3 - A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord [Jehovah]; make

straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Matthew 11:10 - As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John:

“What did you go out into the wilderness to see? … A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a

prophet. This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who

will prepare your way before you.’”

Malachi 3:1 - “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the

Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in

whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord [Jehovah] of hosts.”

1 Corinthians 10:9 - We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were

destroyed by serpents.

Numbers 21:5-6 - And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you

brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we

loathe this worthless food.” Then the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the

people, so that many people of Israel died.

Luke 4:16-21 - And he [Jesus] came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was

his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. And the

scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where

it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good

news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to

the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in

the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been

fulfilled in your hearing.”

Isaiah 61 - The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring

good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the

captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the

Lord’s favor… For I the Lord [Jehovah] love justice; I hate robbery and wrong; I will faithfully

give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. [This passage

is too lengthy to include in its entirety. The diligent Bible student will readily discern that the

speaker in the entire chapter is Jehovah, himself.]

• c.f. Romans 14:11 of Isaiah 45:22-23, 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 of Jeremiah 9:24, and 1 Peter 2:3

of Psalm 34:8, 2 Peter 3:8 of Psalm 90:4

I Am

“I am” is the covenant name of God, highlighting his timeless self-existence.

Exodus 3:14-15 - God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of

Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.’“
God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel,

‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of

Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout

all generations.

Yet Jesus identified himself as “I am”.

John 8:24 - I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he2 you

will die in your sins.”

John 8:28 - So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will

know that I am he2, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father

taught me.

John 13:19 - I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you

may believe that I am he2.

John 18:5-6 - They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he2.” Judas,

who betrayed him, was standing with them. When Jesus said to them, “I am he2,” they drew

back and fell to the ground.

John 8:58-59 - Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” So

they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

The Alpha and the Omega

The Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last is peculiarly the name of God, highlighting His eternal

being.

Revelation 1:8 - “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was

and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Isaiah 44:6 - Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: “I am

the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.

Yet Jesus takes the name “the Alpha and the Omega”.

Revelation 1:17-18 - When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right

hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I

am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.

Revelation 2:8 - “And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: ‘The words of the first and

the last, who died and came to life.

Revelation 22:12-13 - “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay

each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the

beginning and the end.”

King of kings and Lord of Lords

God is the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Deuteronomy 10:17 - For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the

mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.

Psalm 136:1-3 - Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord

of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever;

1 Timothy 6:13-15 - I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of

Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the

commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of

kings and Lord of lords
, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom

no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.

Yet Jesus is called the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Revelation 17:14 - They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he

is Lord of lords and King of kings
,

Revelation 19:11-16 - Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on

it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a

flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows

but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The

Word of God
. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following

him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the

nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the

wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings

and Lord of lords.

Savior

While the Bible recognizes occasional national “saviors” raised up to deliver Israel from earthly

oppressors, God declares that He is the only Savior of His people in the ultimate and religious sense.

Isaiah 43:11 - I, I am the Lord [Jehovah], and besides me there is no savior.

Isaiah 49:26 - Then all flesh shall know that I am the Lord [Jehovah] your Savior, and your

Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

Hosea 13:4 - But I am the Lord [Jehovah] your God from the land of Egypt; you know no God

but me, and besides me there is no savior.

Yet Jesus is designated the Savior, not occasionally but officially, not nationally but spiritually, and not

temporally but eternally.

Luke 2:11 - For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

John 4:42 - They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe,

for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”

Acts 5:31 - God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel

and forgiveness of sins.

Ephesians 5:23 - For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the

church, his body, and is himself its Savior.

2 Timothy 1:10 - and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior

Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel

Titus 1:4 - Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Titus 3:5-6 - he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to

his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured

out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior

2 Peter 1:11 - For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal

kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 2:20 - For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the

knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome,

the last state has become worse for them than the first.

2 Peter 3:18 - But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To

him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

1 John 4:14 - And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of

the world.

Titus 2:13 - waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and

Savior Jesus Christ

2 Peter 1:1 - To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the

righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ

• c.f. Matthew 1:21, Acts 13:23, Philippians 3:20, etc.

Jesus partakes of the prerogatives of deity

He shares God’s glory

God declares that He shares His glory with no one else.

• Isaiah 42:8,11 - I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to

carved idols. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned?

My glory I will not give to another.

Yet Jesus shares the Father’s glory.

John 17:5 - And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with

you before the world existed.

John 17:24 - Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I

am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the

world.

• c.f. 2 Peter 3:18

He receives religious worship

Scripture is clear that God alone is to be worshipped. Elect angels and holy men reject worship when

rendered to them.

Exodus 34:14 - you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a

jealous God

Matthew 4:10 - Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship

[proskuneo] the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”

Acts 10:25-26 - When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped

[proskuneo] him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I too am a man.”

Revelation 19:10 - Then I fell down at his feet to worship [proskuneo] him, but he said to me,

“You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the

testimony of Jesus. Worship [proskuneo] God.

Revelation 22:8-9 - I fell down to worship [proskuneo] at the feet of the angel who showed

them to me, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your

brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship [proskuneo]

God.

Yet Jesus accepts worship.

Matthew 2:2 - “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it

rose and have come to worship him.”

Matthew 2:11 - And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they

fell down and worshiped him.

Matthew 14:31-33 - Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to

him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind

ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Matthew 28:9 - And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took

hold of his feet and worshiped him.

Matthew 28:16-17 - Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus

had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.

John 9:35-38 - Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you

believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?”

Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.” He said, “Lord, I

believe,” and he worshiped him.

Hebrews 1:6 - And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s

angels worship him.”

Revelation 5:11-14 - Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and

the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands,

saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and

wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” And I heard every creature in heaven and

on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on

the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” And

the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

He receives sacred service

Daniel 7:13-14 - “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came

one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And

to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages

should serve [latreuo, LXX] him
; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass

away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.

Psalm 2:11-12 - Serve the Lord [Jehovah] with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son,

lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who

take refuge in him.

Revelation 22:1-3 - Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal,

flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city;

also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit

each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be

anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will

worship [latreuo] him
.

He is prayed to and invocated

John 14:13-14 - Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified

in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

Acts 1:24-25 - And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which

one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which

Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”

Acts 7:59-60 - And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my

spirit.”
And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin

against them.”
And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

2 Corinthians 12:8-9 - Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may

rest upon me.

Acts 9:13-14 - But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how

much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief

priests to bind all who call on your name.”

Acts 22:16 - And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling

on his name
.

Romans 10:12-14 - For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is

Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name

of the Lord will be saved.
” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed?

And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear

without someone preaching?

1 Corinthians 1:2 - To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus,

called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord

Jesus Christ
, both their Lord and ours:

• c.f. 1 Corinthians 16:22, Revelation 22:20

He is believed on and followed

John 3:36 - Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall

not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

John 11:25 - Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me,

though he die, yet shall he live,

Acts 16:31 - And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your

household.”

John 14:1 - “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

• c.f. John 10:27

He forgives sins

Mark 2:5-7 - And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are

forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does

this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

Luke 5:22-25 - When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question

in your hearts? Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’?

But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins“—he said to

the man who was paralyzed—”I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.” And

immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home,

glorifying God.

Jesus possesses the incommunicable attributes of deity

Independence (aka aseity or self-existence)

John 5:26 - For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in

himself.

• c.f. I Am.

Eternality

Micah 5:2 - But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of

Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is

from of old, from ancient days
.

Isaiah 9:6 - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his

shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,

Prince of Peace.

John 1:1-2 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was

God. He was in the beginning with God.

Hebrews 7:3 - He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days

nor end of life, but resembling the Son
of God he continues a priest forever.

• c.f. The Alpha and the Omega

Unchangeableness (aka immutability)

Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 1:12 - like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you

are the same, and your years will have no end.”

et al (fullness of deity)

Colossians 1:15 - He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

2 Corinthians 4:4 - In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers,

to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Colossians 2:9-10 - For in him [Christ] the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have

been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

Hebrews 1:2-3 - but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the

heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of

God and the exact imprint of his nature
, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.

Jesus is attributed with the works of deity

Creation

God specifically disclaims any help or agency in creation outside himself.

Isaiah 44:24 - Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the

Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by

myself
,

• c.f. Job 9:8

And yet Jesus is repeatedly attributed with the work of creation.

John 1:3 - All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was

made.

John 1:10 - He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not

know him.

1 Corinthians 8:6 - Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

Hebrews 1:2 - but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the

heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

Hebrews 3:3-4 - For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more

glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by

someone, but the builder of all things is God.)

Final judgment

Scripture teaches that God will execute final judgment.

Romans 14:10 - For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God

Yet the Son, not the Father, will judge.

2 Corinthians 5:10 - For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ

John 5:22 - The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son

Whatever the Father does

John 5:19 - So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own

accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does

likewise.

Jesus claimed deity

One with the Father

John 10:30-38 - [Jesus answered them] I and the Father are one.” The Jews picked up stones

again to stone him. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father;

for which of them are you going to stone me?” The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good

work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make

yourself God
.” Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’? If he

called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken—do you say

of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I

said, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me;

but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and

understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”

John 14:9-11 - Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me,

Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do

you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do

not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me

that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works

themselves.

• c.f. John 17:11,22

Etc.

Luke 18:18-19 - And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. (c.f.

Mark 10:17-18)

Significance of the doctrine

1 John 4:1-3 - Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are

from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of

God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every

spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God
. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you

heard was coming and now is in the world already.

John 8:24 - I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he2 you

will die in your sins.”

The Father? Acts 3:13 does not say "The Father", but "The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."
Once again, when you read "God" you immediately visualize The Father, even when the text does not say "The Father"! :)
Why do you, Trinitarian brothers, continue to do this?
Perhaps because the Holy Spirit has seeded in your hearts, since your childhood, that God is The Father.

Our Father, my friends, is the "Only and True God."
I invite you to think Biblically and not in a Judaizing fashion. When John declares "the Word was God" in his openings statement of John 1:1, he was announcing that the Word of God was God by nature. A Judaizer would immediately strike out that phrase as incorrect.

The New Testament Greek language, which is steeped in Philosophy (Nature, Person, etc…), allows one to fluidly shift the usage of the word "God" to mean either person or nature based on context. For example, the phrase "the Word is God" negates the possibility that God means person and so it means nature. In other words, Jesus is God by nature. This is perfectly logical. Another example is Acts 3:13. This is a case that uses God as a person so it's natural to assume that the term "God" is referring to a person, other than Jesus, which is the Father.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with the fact that the Apostles chose Greek to write their Epistles. A Judaizer would have chastised them for doing so. JWs are prime example of Judaizers when it comes to the fact that the Apostles chose to use the Greek version of God's name as opposed to the Hebrew version of God's name. Cults and heresies are born when people think they know better than the Apostles.

So who do you believe Jesus christ is?

So you finally realized that it was false for you to say the following:

I only had a few bites of 🍿 before Ex 3:6 set you straight and you offered no more counterarguments.

Ex 3:6 Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

This proves that we are talking about God in Ex 3 whose name is "I Am", the very same name that Jesus used to name himself in John 8:58. Thus, Jesus is God.
You're making my argument for me. Any time you mention YHWH I want you to not forget that Jesus spoke of himself as not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and Peter didn't believe Jesus is either. Down goes your I AM argument. That was easy.

You seem to forget Jesus was also a man
You seem to forget God said He isn't a man.

Even so, Amen. 8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Read Revelation 1:4-8 again. Him "which is, and which was, and which is to come" isn't described as Jesus. Notice verse 5 begins with "And from Jesus Christ" so Jesus isn't Him "which is, and which was, and which is to come." I also might add, no one red-letters verse 8 anymore in modern Bibles. Everyone has already figured out that Almighty isn't Jesus.
Amen.

You seem to forget God said He isn't a man.

Not at all

John 1:1–14 (KJV 1900) — 1 IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The word was God and the word is with God - The same Word who created all things in verse 3

The incarnate word is the king of kings and the lord of lord See Rev 17:14; 19:16 above

The image of God created the world? That's a new one. My Bible says God created the world.

And your bible whatever irt might be states Christ created the world

(KJV) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

(NWT) because by means of him all things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him.

Col 1:16 for in Him is all created, that in the heavens and that on the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones, or lordships, or sovereignties, or authorities, all is created through Him and for Him,

So the Father is the invisible holy Spirit and Jesus isn't?

The word was but became flesh

Once again

John 1:1–14 (KJV 1900) — 1 IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. ...... 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Who is coming

Revelation 22:20–21 (KJV 1900) — 20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

both

Revelation 1:17–18 (KJV 1900) — 17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Revelation 22:12–13 (KJV 1900) — 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

Identify Christ as the first and the last

Jesus doesn't know when he returns. Matthew 24:36.
As a man he did not

And in fact that day may be hastened

2 Peter 3:12 (KJV 1900) — 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Jesus won't return under his own power and authority. Acts 1:7, 1 Thess 4:14

That only show submission to the father. Trinitarians do not deny Jesus submits to the Fatherxc

One is the Almighty and the other isn't.

That is debateable as

the coming one is Jesus

Rev 11:17Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.

and

Matthew 28:18 (KJV 1900) — 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Then he isn't God.

Scripture states he is

Titus 2:13 (UASV) — 13 Looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

Philippians 2:6–8 (NIV) — 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Yes and Who is making Jesus' enemies his footstool for Him? :)
The Father

Remember Jesus- the word humbled himself and became a man

Deity of Christ Verse List
You put a lot here. While I understand you feel strongly about your beliefs, sometimes what is meaningful is more important than what is expedient. Your points, while you quote a lot a proof texts, they tend to actually ignore a lot of the original language, or are niche translations that work better with the points you're trying to make, are based on logical fallacies, or are simply false. You even referred to Granville Sharp’s so-called "rule" that isn't even a real rule in English grammar, it doesn't exist in every English translation, and is not a real rule in Greek grammar; he invented this rule in 1778 to help bolster his beliefs.

Long story short, you don't have anything from the Bible that directly and succinctly describes or explains the Trinity doctrine about God. There is just a wall of proof texts, little pieces of your mysterious puzzle taken from around the Bible, put together in one area, with the claim they refer to the Trinity doctrine or the alleged deity of Jesus. So what you are providing essentially amounts to a theological argument, even though you did accurately call what you presented a doctrine.

Thank you for providing a table of contents to this as this will be more convenient to address those misunderstandings.

• Jesus bears the names and titles of deity
Not all of them. There are around two dozen titles and descriptions Jesus doesn't share with deity. There are also others who are not Jesus who bear names and titles that God has.

Many are the first and last - Matthew 19:30
Artaxerxes is king of kings - Ezra 7:12
Humans who are sons of the Most High are elohim - John 10:34, Psalm 82:6
Humans who are sons of the Most High are elohim - John 10:34, Psalm 82:6

• Jehovah
This is patently false.

Jesus is not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob so he isn't the I AM. - Acts 3:13, Matthew 22:32
• The Alpha and the Omega
While that's true, this title does not refer to deity since deity doesn't die. - Check Revelation 1:18
• King of kings and Lord of Lords
Jesus is never directly called this in that word order in Scripture.

• Savior
Yes it's true that Jesus is savior, but the Father is his savior. They are saviors together without one being being the other. - John 3:16-17, Hebrews 5:7
• Jesus partakes of the prerogatives of deity
Where?

• He shares God’s glory
So do the disciples: - John 17:22

• He receives religious worship
None.

• He receives sacred service
Where?

• He is prayed to and invocated
None. The only teaching on who to pray to is in Matthew 6:6,9 where Jesus taught to pray to the Father.

• He is believed on and followed
Yes, but that's not a point.

• He forgives sins
Yes, and so did the other "men" (plural) because God gave that authority to Jesus and them. - Matthew 9:5-8.
• Jesus possesses the incommunicable attributes of deity
Which ones?

• Independence (aka aseity or self-existence)
Jesus is never stated be eternal in Scripture.

• Eternality
Jesus is never stated be eternal in Scripture.

• Unchangeableness (aka immutability)
If the "Word" is Jesus in John 1:1,14 then he changed when he became flesh.

• et al (fullness of deity)
Christians have the fullness of the deity as well. - Ephesians 3:19
• Jesus is attributed with the works of deity
Most of the same miracles Jesus did others did too.

• Creation
Jesus isn't the creator in John 1:3, Acts 4:24-27, Acts 17:24-25, Hebrews 1:10, etc.
• Final judgment
The saints will judge the world too. - 1 Corinthians 6:2
• Whatever the Father does
Christians should be doing what the Father does too.

• Jesus claimed deity
He denied deity in Mark 10:18
• One with the Father
Jesus prayed the disciples would also be one with the Father. John 17:21-22

Not all of them. There are around two dozen titles and descriptions Jesus doesn't share with deity. There are also others who are not Jesus who bear names and titles that God has.

Many are the first and last - Matthew 19:30
No

Matthew 19:30 (NIV) — 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

You misread the verse

Artaxerxes is king of kings - Ezra 7:12

Is he first and last and the lord of all lords

Humans who are sons of the Most High are elohim - John 10:34, Psalm 82:6

Sons yes

But not God or the only savior

Isaiah 43:11 (KJV 1900) — 11 I, even I, am the LORD; And beside me there is no saviour.

Jesus is both

John 4:42 (KJV 1900) — 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

1 John 4:14 (KJV 1900) — 14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

Humans who are sons of the Most High are elohim - John 10:34, Psalm 82:6

But not the monogenos son of God

John 3:16 (ESV) — 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

This is patently false.
That is your opinion

Isaiah says he saw the glory of Jehovah

John says he saw Jesus

Jesus is not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob so he isn't the I AM. - Acts 3:13, Matthew 22:32

Again your opinion

JehovahThe New Testament cites numerous Old Testament passages about Jehovah and refers them to Jesus.• Hebrews 1:8-12 - But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” And, “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.”Psalm 102:25-27 - [Hear my prayer, O Lord [Jehovah]] Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end.• John 12:36-41 - When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said, “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.” Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him.Isaiah 6:1-10 - In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had sixwings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord [Jehovah] of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord [Jehovah] of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his handa burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” And he said, “Go, and say to this people: “‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’ Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”• Ephesians 4:7-8 - But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts tomen.”Psalm 68:18 - You ascended on high, leading a host of captives in your train and receiving gifts among men, even among the rebellious, that the Lord God may dwell there.• 1 Peter 2:4-8 - As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” So the honor is for you who believe, butfor those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” (c.f. Luke 2:34)Isaiah 8:13-14 - But the Lord [Jehovah] of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.• Romans 10:9-13 - because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believesand is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (c.f. Romans 9:33)Joel 2:32 - And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord [Jehovah]shall be saved.• Revelation 1:7 - Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.Zechariah 12:1,10 - The oracle of the word of the Lord concerning Israel: Thus declares the Lord [Jehovah]… “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem aspirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.• Mark 1:1-3 - The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’” (c.f. Matthew 3:3; Luke 3:4; John 1:23)Isaiah 40:3 - A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord [Jehovah]; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.• Matthew 11:10 - As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? … A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’”Malachi 3:1 - “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord [Jehovah] of hosts.”• 1 Corinthians 10:9 - We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents.Numbers 21:5-6 - And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.” Then the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit thepeople, so that many people of Israel died.• Luke 4:16-21 - And he [Jesus] came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim goodnews to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all inthe synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”Isaiah 61 - The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor… For I the Lord [Jehovah] love justice; I hate robbery and wrong; I will faithfullygive them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. [This passage is too lengthy to include in its entirety. The diligent Bible student will readily discern that the speaker in the entire chapter is Jehovah, himself.]• c.f. Romans 14:11 of Isaiah 45:22-23, 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 of Jeremiah 9:24, and 1 Peter 2:3 of Psalm 34:8, 2 Peter 3:8 of Psalm 90:4

While that's true, this title does not refer to deity since deity doesn't die. - Check Revelation 1:18

But the man the deity was hypostatically united to could and did

He is according the verse the first and the last

Jesus is never directly called this in that word order in Scripture.

Eternal?

Really

1 John 1:2 (KJV 1900) — 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

that claim is plainly an error

Yes it's true that Jesus is savior, but the Father is his savior. They are saviors together without one being being the other. - John 3:16-17, Hebrews 5:7

Um Jehovah is the only savior

Isaiah 43:11 (UASV) — 11 I, I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.

yet Jesus is the savior

John 4:42and they were saying to the woman, “No longer because of what you said do we believe, for we ourselves have heard, and we know that this one is truly the savior of the world!”
1 John 4:14And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

therefore jesus is Jehovah

etc

The word was God and the word became flesh
The word for incarnation isn't in Scripture so what you're describing doesn't fit with the Bible. The "Word" in John 1 isn't actually a person though I understand how a literalist may think that. The first clue is that since the word "Word" literally means words, a speech, or divine utterance then that's our cue to not think non-person things like words are literally god. This is called personification and is used repeatedly throughout Scripture to refer to things that are not actually a person. The do the same thing to wisdom in Proverbs 8 & 9, calling it a female. Following your logic, there is nothing stopping someone from arguing tooth and nail to say wisdom is a literal woman.

In the Old Testament, the Word is creative, and embodying generally the divine will, is personified in Hebrew poetry (Psalm 33:6; Psalm 107:20; Psalm 147:15; Isaiah 55:10-11); and consequent upon this concrete and independent representation, divine attributes are predicated of it (Psalm 34:4; Isaiah 40:8; Psalm 119:105).

So John 1:1 is a poetic way of saying God's words are godly, but not literally themselves the God. This is why John 1:1 went made the point to not call the Word "the God" in the Greek of John 1:1. The God with a God is numerically two Gods and is, therefore, polytheism. We Christians are not polytheists and neither is John. That's why he directly called the "Word" an it, a thing, in 1 John 1:1-3. To top it off, by example, John didn't believe Jesus is God according to his prayer in Acts 4:24-27. Furthermore, there is no such person in the Old Testament named the Word saying or doing anything or said to be present with God in the Old Testament.

So based on all of the evidence, what you're proposing isn't consistent with Scripture.
At the time that was written the word was not a man. See John 1:1-14 above
In prophecy, Jesus is described as a man or the son of man who was with God, but is clearly distinct from God. Numbers 23:19 says God is not a man or the son of man. There isn't any room for Jesus to be God in the Bible.

Daniel 7
13In my vision in the night I continued to watch,
and I saw One like the Son of Man
coming with the clouds of heaven.
He approached the Ancient of Days
and was led into His presence.

Numbers 23
19God is not a man, that He should lie,
or a son of man, that He should change His mind.
Does He speak and not act?
Does He promise and not fulfill?
Scripture states he is
No it doesn't.

Having something written on you doesn't mean the same thing as being called that. 1 Timothy 6:16 says the only King of kings and Lord of lords is God while in the immediate context Jesus is grammatically not Him.

Why are you denying scripture
Where did I do that?

?????

John 1:1–5 (KJV 1900) — 1 IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

The word was God and the word is with God - The same Word who created all things in verse 3
John 1:3 refers to the previously mentioned God in verse 2. The Word isn't the creator there.

The incarnate word is the king of kings and the lord of lord See Rev 17:14; 19:16 above
The word incarnate does not exist in the Bible.

Col 1:16 for in Him is all created, that in the heavens and that on the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones, or lordships, or sovereignties, or authorities, all is created through Him and for Him,
Colossians 1:15 says the Son is the "image of the invisible God" while 1 Timothy 1:17 says the "only God" is invisible. Easy math. Jesus isn't God. The context of this refers to the church being created through Jesus.

Colossians 1
15The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

1 Timothy 1
17Now to the King eternal, immortal, and invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

I have a feeling we will be here for a while. So the Word was not flesh and then the word changed to flesh. Yes? So God changed? How do you explain that when John didn't call this an incarnation?

Who is coming

Revelation 22:20–21 (KJV 1900) — 20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
I think we are going in circles now.

Jesus doesn't know when he returns. Matthew 24:36.

Jesus won't return under his own power and authority. Acts 1:7, 1 Thess 4:14

First and last refers to category. Look up some good commentaries. Some Trinitarian commentaries, which I am sure you prefer, have rightly identified the fact the title "First and last" being an indicator of deity is problematic due to the death of Jesus being incompatible with being a God who cannot die.

Revelation 22:12–13 (KJV 1900) — 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

Identify Christ as the first and the last
No problem since this has nothing to do with deity, but rather the judgement God entrusted to Jesus who they kept calling a man even after he was taken to heaven.

Acts 17
31For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.”
As a man he did not

And in fact that day may be hastened

2 Peter 3:12 (KJV 1900) — 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
That's because God and Jesus come together and it is God who is bringing Jesus.

1 Thess. 4
14For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.

That only show submission to the father. Trinitarians do not deny Jesus submits to the Fatherxc

That is debateable as

the coming one is Jesus

Rev 11:17Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
This doesn't refer to Jesus.

and

Matthew 28:18 (KJV 1900) — 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
The power was "given" meaning it was not inherently his. He does not have the power power of God:

Acts 1
7Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority.
Scripture states he is

John 1:1 (KJV 1900) — 1 IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1 John 1:1-3 calls the Word an it.

John 20:28 (KJV 1900) — 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Thomas didn't say "you" are god. John 20:17 says Jesus and his brothers God is the Father.
Titus 2:13 (UASV) — 13 Looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
KJV excludes the GS rule. Means God and Jesus aren't the same person.

Titus 2
13Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

2 Peter 1:1 (UASV) — 1 Simon Peter, a slave, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have acquired a faith as precious as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
2 Peter 1:2 shows Jesus and God aren't the same person.

2 Peter 1
2Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
Philippians 2:6–8 (NIV) — 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
Form refers to the outward appearance in the Bible. This is a bad translation. To prove it, the fact that Jesus compares himself to God in your version is proof that he isn't God.
The Father

Remember Jesus- the word humbled himself and became a man
Doesn't say he wasn't a man before this.

Colossians 1:16 (KJV 1900) — 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Colossians 1:15 says the Son is the "image of the invisible God" while 1 Timothy 1:17 says the "only God" is invisible. Easy math. Jesus isn't God. The context of this refers to the church being created through Jesus.

Colossians 1
15The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

1 Timothy 1
17Now to the King eternal, immortal, and invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

And why do you, Pancho, continually want to separate "God" from "The Father"? Jesus didn't.
John 8:54 Jesus answered, "If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing, it is My Father who glorifies Me, OF WHOM YOU SAY, 'HE IS OUR GOD';"
So Pancho, "God" and "the Father" are One and the same. So wherever you see "God" in the Bible, you can rightly think of the Father. And wherever you see "the Father" in the Bible, you can rightly think of God.

By the way, you guys have asked multiple times, "Why didn't Jesus ever say, 'I am God'?" The answer is right there in that verse: Because Jesus was not glorifying Himself, but the Father was glorifying Him.

Also wherever you see "Jesus" or "the Holy Spirit" you can think of God or the Father as well. Isn't this indicative of the fact that there is indeed a Trinity? Wherever you see one person of the Trinity, you often see the other two. In fact, I did a search of how many times in the New Testament that the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit are mentioned in the same verse or passage. I don't have that list handy, but it was around 150 times!

Thank you for #242, I agree with all except the part in the Nicene Creed where it says that Jesus or the Son was "eternally begotten". I don't see that in the Bible. I believe He was begotten one time through the miraculous conception in Mary's womb. He did pre-exist as The Word or the Angel of the Lord, or possibly Melchizedek, but not as Jesus, nor even the Son of God. He was first called Jesus and (I believe) Son of God at His birth. Luke 1:35
But He was not begotten in eternity past - He always was, so the only time that He was begotten, i.e. in the sense of being born, was in Bethlehem. It does not appear that He was always called "the Son of God", even though He always existed. The few times where "a son" or "His son" or "My son" are spoken of in the Old Testament, seem to be speaking prophetically about events around His first coming.

For example, Psalm 2:7 where the Father says, "You are My Son, today I have begotten you." In Acts 13:33, Paul quotes this verse and he makes it clear that God is not talking about Jesus being born in Psalm 2:7, but God is speaking of Jesus being raised from the dead. So we could say that Jesus was begotten a second time, at His resurrection. This may be another reason why He is called the FIRSTBORN from the dead. Col. 1:18 Several persons were raised from the dead before He was. But none of them were raised with immortal bodies, as He was. So in that sense, He was the firstborn from the dead.

I'm not a big fan of the creeds.

False

John 1:1–14 (UASV) — 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 This one was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through him, and apart from him, not one thing came into being that has come into being. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it. 6 A man was sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This one came as a witness, in order that he could bear witness about the light, so that all might believe through him. 8 That one was not the light but came that he might bear witness about the light. 9 The true light, who gives light to every man, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him, and the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own people, and his own people did not receive him. 12 On the other hand, as many as received him, he gave authority to them to become children of God, to the ones believing in his name; 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only begotten one from the Father, full of grace and truth.

And the Word became flesh
that is incarnation

The "Word" in John 1 isn't actually a person though I understand how a literalist may think that. The first clue is that since the word "Word" literally means words, a speech, or divine utterance then that's our cue to not think non-person things like words are literally god. This is called personification and is used repeatedly throughout Scripture to refer to things that are not actually a person. The do the same thing to wisdom in Proverbs 8 & 9, calling it a female. Following your logic, there is nothing stopping someone from arguing tooth and nail to say wisdom is a literal woman.

Except

Personal acts are inscribed to him

John 1:1–5 (UASV) — 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 This one was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through him, and apart from him, not one thing came into being that has come into being. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it.

John 1:10–12 (KJV 1900) — 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

In the Old Testament, the Word is creative, and embodying generally the divine will, is personified in Hebrew poetry (Psalm 33:6; Psalm 107:20; Psalm 147:15; Isaiah 55:10-11); and consequent upon this concrete and independent representation, divine attributes are predicated of it (Psalm 34:4; Isaiah 40:8; Psalm 119:105).

Well I quoted the New Testament and it was not poetry so your argument is irrelevant
So John 1:1 is a poetic way of saying God's words are godly, but not literally themselves the God
Sorry that is just your spin not supported by true greek scholars who if they do not call him God mean something along the lines as

What God is the word is .

Where Theos is qualitive

. This is why John 1:1 went made the point to not call the Word "the God" in the Greek of John 1:1. The God with a God is numerically two Gods and is, therefore, polytheism.
Two points

First if the article was there then the word would be the God he was with

That would be nonsense

second You beg the question assuming God could not be one being while being more than one person

For example Bowman writes

Is God One Person?A. God is one God (cf. I above), one Yahweh, one Lord (cf. II above), one Spirit (John 4:24) B. However, the Bible never says that God is "one person"1. Heb. 1:3 KJV speaks of God's "person," but the word used here, hupostasis, is translated "substance" in Heb. 11:1 KJV; also in Heb. 1:3 "God" refers specifically to the Father 2. Gal. 3:20 speaks of God as one party in the covenant between God and man, not as one person 3. Job 13:8 KJV speaks of God's "person," but ironically the Hebrew literally means "his faces"

Denying Christ is not as mark of Christians and you continue to ignore the personal acts of Christ

So based on all of the evidence, what you're proposing isn't consistent with Scripture.

In prophecy, Jesus is described as a man or the son of man who was with God, but is clearly distinct from God. Numbers 23:19 says God is not a man or the son of man. There isn't any room for Jesus to be God in the Bible.
As the word you just self refuted your contention the word was an it

And scripture states he is

John 1:1 (KJV 1900) — 1 IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 20:28 (KJV 1900) — 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

Titus 2:13 (KJV 1900) — 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

2 Peter 1:1 (KJV 1900) — 1 SIMON Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

The Last two being examples of Granville Sharps rule of grammar

Question: "What is the Granville Sharp Rule?"Answer: Granville Sharp (1735–1813) was an English political reformer, slavery abolitionist, and Greek language scholar known for his contributions regarding the translation of New Testament Greek as it relates to the divinity of Christ. Sharp believed strongly in the deity of Christ and studied the New Testament in its original language to more ably prove Christ’s deity. The Granville Sharp Rule was firstnoted in 1798 in his book Remarks on the Uses of the Definitive Article in the Greek Text of the New Testament: Containing Many New Proofs of the Divinity of Christ, from Passages Which Are Wrongly Translated in the Common English Version. The actual rule of Granville Sharp is concerned with the use of definite articles and copulative conjunctions in the New Testament. Copulative conjunctions (also called additive conjunctions) are words that join other words and indicate the relation of additional information. In English, we have onedefinite article, the; some copulative conjunctions are and, moreover, and also. The Granville Sharp Rule states, “When the copulative kai connects two nouns of the same case, [viz. nouns (either substantive or adjective, or participles) of personal description, respecting office, dignity, affinity, or connexion, and attributes, properties, or qualities, good or ill], if the article ho, or any of its cases, precedes the first of the said nouns or participles, and is not repeated before the second noun or participle, the latter always relates to the same person that is expressed or described by the first noun orparticiple” (Remarks on the Uses of the Definitive Article, 3).In simpler terms, the Granville Sharp Rule says that when two singular common nouns are used to describe a person, and those two nouns are joined by an additive conjunction, and the definite article precedes the first noun but not the second, then both nouns refer to the same person. This principle of semantics holds true in all languages. For example, consider this sentence:We met with the owner and the curator of the museum, Mr. Holton. In the preceding sentence, the definite article the is used twice, before both owner and curator. The curator is obviously Mr. Holton, but the owner could be a different person. Did we meet with one or two people? Is Mr. Holton the owner of the museum as well as the curator? The grammatical construction leaves the question open. However, the following sentence removes the ambiguity:We met with the owner and curator of the museum, Mr. Holton. In the second example, the definite article the is only used once, before the first noun. This means that the two nouns, joined by and, are both in apposition to the name of the person. In other words, Mr. Holton is both owner and curator. The Granville Sharp Rule makes it clear that we are referring to the same individual. Two of the New Testament verses associated with the Granville Sharp Rule are Titus 2:13 and 2 Peter 1:1. The KJV translates Titus 2:13 as, “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of thegreat God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” In the original Greek, the words for “God” and “Savior” are joined by kai, and the definite article ho is only used once, preceding “God”; according to the GranvilleSharp Rule, both God and Savior must refer to the same person, namely, Jesus Christ. The NASB 1977 renders the verse more literally: “Looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus.”Similarly, 2 Peter 1:1 refers to “our God and Savior Jesus Christ.” Following Granville Sharp’s rule, Jesus Christ is clearly identified as both “God” and “Savior,” another example of the Bible’s teaching of the deity of Christ. The grammatical construction of the Greek makes it plain: definite article + singular noun + copulative conjunction + singular noun = the same

Daniel 7
13In my vision in the night I continued to watch,
and I saw One like the Son of Man
coming with the clouds of heaven.
He approached the Ancient of Days
and was led into His presence.

The incarnate Christ

Numbers 23
19God is not a man, that He should lie,
or a son of man, that He should change His mind.
Does He speak and not act?
Does He promise and not fulfill?
This God became a man

John 1:1–14 (ESV) — 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. 9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I appreciate your comment.
My post was focused on the fact that many times, when Trinitarians read the word "God", they think automatically "The Father", even when the text does not say "The Father". I have found this situation many times across Internet forums and in real life on the street.

For example, when our Trinitarians brothers read John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son..." they immediately visualize The Father sending Christ to this planet. You don't think in terms of "For The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit so loved the world, that they gave their only Son [weird... as Christ is not the Son of the Holy Spirit nor his own son, right?]"

Perhaps a Trinitarian would like to read John 3:16 in terms of "The Divine Council so loved the world, that It gave His only begotten Son...". But still, is Jesus the Son of the Council? Is the Father the father of a Council? Why did Jesus spoke over and over as if He had been sent by a Person (The Father) and not by a Divine Council? Did Jesus pray to The Divine Council in Gethsemane?

Jesus never said that.
  • He was not unoriginated. Christ was the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16).
  • He was not self-existent. “I live because of the Father” (John 6:57).
  • He was not immortal. Jesus died and God resurrected Him (Acts 13:30).
  • He was not all wise. Jesus “grew in wisdom” (Luke 2:52).
  • He was not all-powerful. Christ said “the Son can do nothing by Himself” (John 5:19).
  • He was not omnipresent. Jesus said after Lazarus died “I am glad I was not there” (John 11:15).

Jesus denied he was good?

Where?

It is not in that verse

Which doesn't mean He was created.

Pastor John joins us today over Skype remotely, even though today’s question comes in from a pastor not far from you. “Pastor John, hello! I pastor a small congregation in Minneapolis. As we endured the inability to gather in person as a congregation in the midst of the virus, I emailed the church weekly, slowly working through the questions in the New City Catechism. It raised again a question that has been gnawing at me for a number of years. What does it mean that the Son was ‘begotten’ by the Father, and ‘not made’? Why this distinction? And why does it matter so much?”
Well, hello brother, fellow lover of Minneapolis — our sad city, our sinful city. The early church had to settle certain really crucial disputes over the nature of Christ. And one of those disputes came to a head in the fourth century, when a group called the Arians argued that Jesus Christ was created, made, and was not God. The summary and the end of that dispute was the Council of Nicaea. I’ll just read a little section of it.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, only begotten [that is, of the substance] of the Father, God of God, Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not made [clearly in the face of the Arians], of one substance with the Father, through whom all things were made.
Now, that has been, and is today, the historic, biblical, orthodox position of the church throughout history. I believe that what that says is true. The phrase “begotten, not made” comes from that Council of Nicaea, the Nicene Creed.

Never Not the Son

So, we now should ask, Since the Bible and not creeds is our final authority that we really esteem — I esteem highly and love to ponder the wisdom of the creeds — is it biblical, and why does it matter?
I think a compelling case can be made biblically from the first fourteen verses of the Gospel of John that the phrase “begotten, not made” is biblical. John begins like this:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He [this Word is a person] was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:1–3)
And then he adds in John 1:14,
And the Word became flesh [we’re talking about Jesus Christ] and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only [the KJV reads begotten] Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
“The eternal begetting of the Son secures the Son’s very same, exact nature with the Father.”
So, what I’m focusing on here is that sonship is introduced: what he called Word in verse 1 he calls Son in verse 14. Now, there’s a good deal of dispute over whether the Greek term monogenous means “only Son” or “only begotten Son.” And here’s the catch — and I want all ordinary, run-of-the-mill, faithful pastors and teachers to take heart: I don’t think the truth of the doctrine of “begotten, not made” depends on the translation of that verb. If it did, we would be in the middle of a dispute that continues.
What is essential is that in the first three verses of this Gospel, the Word of God is said to be God and to be with God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” — meaning, you have two persons, God and the Word of God (John 1:1). And the second person, the Word of God, is God and with God.
And then it says that through the Word everything was “made that was made,” and that precise wording rules out the possibility that the Word of God itself was made. Because everything that is in the category of made or coming into being was in fact brought into being, was made, by the Word, which means he’s not in that category; he was not made.

Eternal Generation

Then verse 14 uses sonship language (quite apart from whether you say “only Son” or “only begotten Son”) to describe the relationship between God and the Word. Not only is the Word God; the Word is also Son of God, which means that what is said about the Word applies to the Son, and what was said about the Word was that he was not made.
How, then, does the Son exist as Son — not as Father, but as Son? If we just stay with the language of Son and Father, the answer would be: not made, but begotten. That’s what sons are: sons are begotten; that’s what it means to be the son of a father. But this begetting of the Son clearly is very unique — I mean, it’s really different because this Son, this Word, had no beginning. In the beginning was God. The Word of God was there, and God was there — and the two of them were eternally there. God was the Word. The Word was God. They had no beginning. He was always there with God as God.
The text itself pushes us to the conclusion that the peculiar kind of begetting that we’re talking about is an eternal begetting. There never was a time when the Son did not exist, and yet he is Son and not Father. They’re not reversible ever in the New Testament. And the Christian church is right to argue that it is fitting to speak of this eternally existent Son who is God, and yet who is not the Father. He has been eternally begotten by the Father, not coming into being but eternally begotten.
“There is no salvation without the deity of Christ.”
So, the point stressed, both biblically and confessionally, is that the eternal begetting of the Son secures the Son’s very same, exact nature with the Father. That’s the point of Hebrews 1:3: “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature.” Or Philippians 2:6: “Though he was in the form of God, [he] did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped.”

Help from Heroes

Now, C.S. Lewis was really criticized for trying to make things understandable for ordinary people, but most of us bless him for it, right? And here’s what he wrote:
When you beget, you beget something of the same kind as yourself. A man begets human babies, a beaver begets little beavers, and a bird begets eggs which turn into little birds. But when you make, you make something of a different kind from yourself. A bird makes a nest, a beaver builds a dam, a man makes a wireless set [he’s writing eighty years ago or so]. (Mere Christianity, 157)
That’s an essential part of what the doctrine intends to preserve: the Son is not a creature; he’s not made; he’s not different from the very essence and nature of God.
Or if you want to move from Lewis and jump into the deep end of the pool with Jonathan Edwards, let me read you what Edwards says in his attempt, not to explain to ordinary people — although I guess he was, and yet he pushes the limits of our mental capacities. But I think it’s valuable to hear what Edwards has to say about this. Here’s what he says:
As God with perfect clearness, fullness, and strength, understands Himself, views His own essence, . . . that idea which God hath of Himself is absolutely Himself. This representation of the Divine nature and essence is the Divine nature and essence again: so that by God’s thinking of the Deity, [the Deity] must certainly be generated. Hereby there is another person begotten, there is another infinite, eternal, Almighty and most holy and the same God, the very same Divine nature. And this Person is the second person in the Trinity, the only begotten and dearly beloved Son of God. (Works of Jonathan Edwards, 21:116–17)
I think it is faithful and true to speak of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, as eternally begotten but not made, and yet never having a beginning and being the very nature of God.

No Redemption Without Divinity

Now, does it matter? That’s the question at the end that he asks: Can you help me understand what it means, and why would we devote a summer to it? It does matter, yes. I will mention only one of many reasons that it matters.
Paul and the writer to the Hebrews show how the full deity of Christ — begotten, not made — is interwoven with his work of redemption. There wouldn’t be redemption without this truth:
In him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. (Colossians 1:19–20)
Those go together; you can’t have the one without the other: if the fullness of deity isn’t there, reconciliation by the blood of this being isn’t there.
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. (Hebrews 1:3)
In other words, there is no salvation without the deity of Christ. If the Son of God was made instead of being eternally begotten in the very nature of God, we are still in our sins, and biblical salvation does not exist.
That’s really helpful. Thank you, Pastor John. A wireless set — is that a radio?
I think it’s a radio.

Well, I know we have a bunch of listeners listening right now on the FM airwaves. A shout-out to Family Radio listeners right now. Each new episode has been broadcasted through Family Radio stations across the country, twice per day. And that’s been true now for over a year. Last June, my wife and I were driving through Salt Lake City, Utah, listening to 91.9 FM, listening to the inaugural APJ episode on the FM airwaves. It was surreal. So thank you, Family Radio.
