Do you know you MUST be born again?
As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7 You believe you are still a sinner. I know I am free from sin.
I believe I am a saint, as the Bible calls all believers and followers of Christ (Romans 1:1). We are also called disciples of Jesus. I was born again in 1970, at the age of 21, and have followed Jesus ever since - not flawlessly, not perfectly. Saints means "holy ones". The only reason we can be called that is because we are IN HIM who alone is HOLY, not because we never sin. Apparently you were never taught that, or you ignored it.
James says that "we all stumble in many ways" - including YOU. That means you sin from time to time, just as I do, just as all saints do. It doesn't mean that we are no longer righteous in God's eyes - the blood of Jesus cleansed us from all sin when we were born again, and it continues to cleanse us as we confess any known sin - and it will continue to cleanse us until Jesus returns.
Imagine a married couple where the husband insulted and berated his wife. Later, feeling much guilt, and conviction by the Holy Spirit, he humbly returned to her and asked her to please forgive him. She does. So from then on, he NEVER ONCE sinned against her for the rest of their lives. Does anyone actually believe that? Of course not, ask ANY married person, if their spouse NEVER sins against them or others or God.
This is why, charismaticlady, that I would bet $1000 that you are not married - and I'm NOT a betting man. If you were, you would KNOW beyond all doubt that occasionally, you still sin. Even if you thought that you no longer sin, your spouse would be quick to correct you - What about what you said last night? What about your snotty attitude toward me this morning? What about this? What about that?
If I am wrong, which is possible, and you are married, does your husband agree with your belief that you no longer sin?
You see, others spot your sin and my sin, sometimes long before we do. If we're honest, we'll humbly admit that they are right, and repent and confess to God, and the blood of Jesus will cleanse us again.
How many times did Jesus tell Peter to forgive his brother who sinned against him? That's right, 70 X 7 or 490 times. So how many times will God forgive us? Jesus is saying that there is no end to His forgiveness for us, if we sincerely confess and repent. But why would Jesus think that anyone would continue to sin that many times? Because He knows what is in us. We have to see ourselves as dead to sin by faith - 24/7. We should walk in the Spirit 24/7, but I don't know one Christian who does that. Apparently you think that you do. You don't. I don't. No Christian abides in Christ 24/7. We should and we want that, but that's not reality.
