How To Understand : Acts 2:38

Behold

Well-known member
Reader,

There are some who teach that the "Gospel" is : Acts 2:38.

Now, if you are familiar with Christianity, then you know that everyone is invited to become a Christian......Jews, Gentiles,.........
>"The World"... = John 3:16.

So, one of the things we find out about the NT, is... = if an Apostle does not know something then they can't teach it until they know it.

And Peter, who was the Act 2:38 preacher, did not understand the Gospel of the Grace of God, until Acts 15. = Not until He was taught it by Paul.

Now, How is all that relevant to Paul? and Acts 2:38

Its like this reader, ... Many people and denominations consider Acts 2:38 as the Gospel... and these people are very strong proponents for "Water baptism"..
In Fact they are so into the water aspect that they read that "Noah was saved by water" and can't understand that Had NOAH and Family gotten out of that ARK, then Noah and Family, would have DIED in that FLOOD WATER JUDGEMENT.

See, it was the ARK that kept them OUT of the WATER, is why they LIVED.., as that wooden ARK is not just their Salvation from that water, but its symbolic of the Cross of Christ that was WOOD, (A TREE) , and Christ on it, is our ARK .
How?
Christ on that WOOD, takes the Judgement for our sin, just as Noah's Ark saved Noah and Family from the WATER that was God's Judgment.

Now let me show you a few things..

First, Peter was not water baptized in Acts 2:38. and you can read it for yourself.
So, we could stop right there, as that proves that WATER is not going to save anything, when the very person who is telling those JEWS to get in the water, was not himself water baptized that day.
But lets continue, as some of you, are waking up, and some of you are learning something you need to know.

= NONE in the "upper room" were water baptized in Acts 2:38, and you can read it for yourself.
And Peter and those same were speaking with tongues, yet none were water baptized., in Acts 2:38

Water Baptism, began before Jesus showed up, Reader.
Its a big part of the Jewish OT Situation, and you've read that John The Baptist.. (John the Water Baptizer) was baptizing Jews long before Jesus showed up, and this saved NONE of them.. It washed NONE of their sin away.
So, when The JEW = PETER........ was preaching in Acts 2:38, He preached all he knew, and that was for that day, but it is not for now, regarding water being necessary as a part of the process of God's Redemption.
it wasn't a part of it on that day... or Peter would have gotten water baptized and those in the upper room also..

See that?

So why did Peter Preach it? = Its because its ALL HE KNEW at that time., as at that time if you were a Jew, you repented and John the water Baptizer dunked you... it was a part of the law, and Jesus did it because as He said.>>"Let us fulfill all things".. all things related to the law, as Jesus was born under the Law.

ENTER... Paul the Apostle, who was sent to preach .. ""The preaching of the Cross is the power of God unto salvation, for everyone who Believes"".

And notice this verse.. ."Its pleased GOD by the foolishness of PREACHING.. to SAVE THOSE... who BELIEVE"... (not get in the water).

And "Save those who believe what"?

A.) Paul's gospel...>"The Gospel of the GRACE OF GOD" that is the "preaching of the Cross of Christ".

Now how do you know that Peter didnt know anything about the "Gospel of the Grace of God in Acts 2"?

Its because Peter didnt know that Gentiles could be saved, until 10 yrs after Jesus is back in Heaven.
So, if you dont KNOW that Jews and Gentiles can both be saved, then you dont understand God's Salvation, according to how PAUL was sent to teach it, by Revelation from JESUS Himself.

Read Acts of the Apostles... Chapter 10, written a decade after Jesus is back in Heaven., and discover that Peter didnt know that Gentiles could be saved... YET.. SO....= God had to give Peter a vision, to cause Him to UNDERSTAND this about Gentiles.
So, You can't preach the true Gospel, that includes GENTILES being saved.... if you dont yet know it.
And that is why Acts 2:38, is NOT The Gospel.

And here is one more.
Paul said...>"Christ sent me NOT to water baptize"........and that does not mean that we are not to be water baptized.
I was water baptized 11 yrs after i was born again. I was water baptized, about 5 yrs after i was called into the Ministry by the Holy Spirit.

See reader to understand the TRUE Gospel..... in "the time of the Gentiles".. and we are in it....
It means that the correct understanding of the process of Redemption, is not about water....its about the BLOOD OF JESUS and the CROSS of Christ and Faith that is counted by God as "righteousness", and water has no part in that, at all.

It was in Acts 15, that Peter learned what Paul knew, that Paul learned from Jesus, and from that point, all the Apostles understood "Paul's Gospel of the Grace of God" that is not related to water baptism.

I will say that I enjoyed much of this as being just what the Word teaches. Thanks,

It looks as if you do not think that the Holy Spirit spoke through Peter at pentecost? Do you?

My Thread is not related to the Spirit of God "speaking".

My Thread is discussing the fact that neither Peter, nor those in the upper room were baptized in water during Pentecost...., yet HE spoke about water Baptism.

So, that is not a "confused Holy Spirit"....that is a Jew Apostle who is ultimately familiar with John The Baptist and the LAW, preaching the extent of his understanding, at THAT Time.

My Thread is concerning the fact that Peter didn't yet completely understand God's "Gospel of Salvation./.(GRACE)""", in Acts 2, but would later come to understand it... starting in Acts 10, and then fully understand it, in Acts 15, after He met Paul.

So, we see that when an Apostle does not know something, then that explains why they can't teach it or preach it.

The "Body of Christ" is essentially GENTILES, and Jews are welcome... but this 'time of the Gentiles' is not for the Jew, specifically,.. its for those who are outside of the House of Israel so that they as wild olive branches, might be grafted in.

This "time of the gentiles" is going to end soon......and then God will RESUME His dealing with the Jew, specifically, and the UNBELIEVERS as well.

"Trib" and "Grt Trib"

I will say that I enjoyed much of this as being just what the Word teaches. Thanks,

Thanks for reading it.

Would Acts 22:16 fall into the same category as Acts 2:38?

Its the "calling on the name of the Lord" that is the part of your verse that is "FAITH"

The water is just water.
You'll take a shower in it later......did it save you, @Fred ?
Did it wash away your sins, or did the Soap?

Now, open your bible, and read Acts 8., and get some CONTEXT.

Phillip and the EUNUCH.

Phillip said..>"yes you may be water baptized......IF = you have believed with all your heart.. .FIRST">

See what comes FIRST? Before the DUNKING?

And this is why you have this verse..

"""He that believeth and is water baptized, shall be saved, but He that BELIEVETH NOT.. = shall go to HELL... (Shall be Damned)"""""

Notice that the "Damnation" is only related to the BELIEVING or not...and the water is left out...

See it @Fred ?

Look closely.

I was saved before my water baptism - just like Cornelius and the other Gentiles with him.

Of course.

I was born again 11 yrs before i was water baptized, and when i was water baptized the water cult nut said to me, as they handed me a towel, and as the water in the baptism was going down the drain..

"Look... see there.....there go your SINS"..... .as if the water just washed my sin away.

= NONSENSE... LIE..... LIE.........CATHOLIC "baptismal regeneration" LIE FROM HELL.

See, my SIN, was dealt with 2000 yrs ago by JESUS on the CROSS, and not by that CITY Water Supply.

My Thread is not related to the Spirit of God "speaking".

My Thread is discussing the fact that neither Peter, nor those in the upper room were baptized in water during Pentecost...., yet HE spoke about water Baptism.
I understand. Yet, we all know that all truth in the Bible is inter-connected, and some doctrines may make sense in a limited piece of scripture, but when compared to broader scripture that don't align.
For you to claim that Peter did not know these things is agreed upon, yet he spoke them. How?

For you to claim that Peter did not know these things is agreed upon, yet he spoke them. How?

He didnt speak them.
He spoke "john the baptist's water baptism" and "you have crucified your messiah".

Is that what Paul teaches and the NT Preachers are to preach as "The Gospel of the Grace of God"?

= NO.

we are not really talking about the same things, you began your first post talking about what was said on the day of Pentecosr, My response was to that only. Even though I read your whole post I was not responding to any of the subsequent parts. sorry for the confusion.

you began your first post talking about what was said on the day of Pentecosr, My response was to that only. Even

Peter told those Jews......

"Jesus rose from the Dead"

"you have slain your Messiah"..

Then the Jews said..

"what shall we do"..

Peter said..

"repent and be baptized".

And "repent and be baptized".......can work, if you teach it as "repent from unbelief", and be baptized into Christ"., as that would be :

"Faith in Christ", and then "regeneration by the Holy Spirit". = THAT Spiritual Baptism.......not water baptism.

However, people who are Stuck in Acts 2:38, do not see it that way.

They see it as....."turn from, sin... and once you've stopped then be water baptized", as that is Salvation.

These people always infer or outright teach that "water baptism" is where the regeneration happens, and so, you have to have the WATER.

That Teaching is "cult of the Virgin"... Catholic.....its "baptismal regeneration".. or "born again...>>BY WATER">... and that is why they teach that "water washes away your sin."

It doesn't.

I wonder if any people posting n these forums actually understand the Bible the way you suggest. I know thst some people do belive that baptism is part of salvation. But I wonder who here you could be addressing, who here professes this bad doctrine you speak of?

To perfectly understand what you are asking, you have to be a devout disciple of Paul's Doctrine.

So, this teaching that Acts 2:38 "is the Gospel" is very much believed by Catholics, and many on this Forum, and many on every forum.

Many Denominations teach "Acts 2:38" as "The Gospel".

Its not.

Many who believe in "baptismal regeneration" use ACTS 2:38 as their "go to" verse.

Dwight - Although I agree with you on water baptism - it saves no one - you make some statements that do not appear to be correct.
Peter knew the gospel of the grace of God (which is synonymous with the gospel of the kingdom of God that Jesus preached - Acts 20:24-25) before Paul was even saved. That gospel was originally only for the Jews, according to Jesus' instructions. Peter and the other 11 were commanded to "make disciples of all nations" by preaching this gospel. Matthew 28:19-20 It appears that the apostles took this command of Jesus to refer to reaching only the Jews that were in all nations. True, Peter and the 11 apparently didn't fully understand yet that they should also go to the Gentiles with the gospel. For Peter, and possibly even the other 11, it took the vision that God gave Peter in Acts 10:9-16 to fully comprehend that He was welcoming even Gentiles into salvation and the church.

Dwight - True, Peter and all those in the upper room - about 120 disciples - were NOT baptized on the Day of Pentecost. That's because ALL of them were already baptized during Jesus' ministry. The gospels are clear that the apostles baptized new disciples of Jesus all the time. Apparently the 12 must have baptized each other.

Dwight - Again, the 120 did NOT NEED to be baptized on that day - they had already been baptized when they first put their faith in Jesus.

Dwight - You seem to overlook that any disciple of Jesus who was previously baptized by John the Baptist, had to be baptized a second time into the body of Christ (or the church). See Acts 19:3-5

Dwight - Amen to that.

And "Save those who believe what"?

A.) Paul's gospel...>"The Gospel of the GRACE OF GOD" that is the "preaching of the Cross of Christ".

Now how do you know that Peter didnt know anything about the "Gospel of the Grace of God in Acts 2"?

Dwight - Again, Peter DID KNOW about the gospel of the grace of God, which is the same as the gospel of the kingdom of God (also synonymous with the kingdom of heaven.) In fact, Peter and the other 11 were sent out to preach that gospel, even while Jesus was still alive - Matthew 10:7-15 The only difference is that they were sent solely to the Jews, which God changed later. In Acts 20:24-25, Paul says "the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of THE GOSPEL OF THE GRACE OF GOD."
Then in the next verse, Paul says "I know that all of you, among whom I went about PREACHING THE KINGDOM will no longer see my face."
Other than not being sent to the Gentiles, it was the SAME gospel. There never were two gospels, as you seem to imply. By the way, EVEN IN THE OLD COVENANT, God was gracious to the Gentiles by allowing them to become proselytes and enter in the the covenant of Moses, along with the Jews.

Dwight - Incorrect, Acts 2:38 IS the gospel. But it's been misinterpreted to say that baptism is required for the forgiveness of our sins. Actually, it is REPENTANCE that brings forgiveness of sins, which is Peter's first instruction in this verse for those who want salvation.

It was in Acts 15, that Peter learned what Paul knew, that Paul learned from Jesus, and from that point, all the Apostles understood "Paul's Gospel of the Grace of God" that is not related to water baptism.

Dwight - Actually, Peter learned that in Acts 10, when he saw the vision of the sheet descending from heaven.

The quesion was, who on these forums are you addressing? or is it just a general obsrvation about Christians in general?

Im address the water cult theology that teaches that "repent and be baptized" that is John The Baptist's sermon to OT Jews........ is the NT "Gospel".

1Co 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
1Co 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
1Co 3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?
1Co 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
1Co 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
