The Natural Man cannot believe in Christ !
How can the Natural man, he that has never been born again of the Spirit of God, how can such a one believe into Christ, resulting from an Gospel Command 1 Jn 3:23
23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
For scripture states plainly of the Natural Man Rom 8:7-8
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law / Command of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Does Believing on Christ Please God ? Yes, Look at 1 Jn 3:22
22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep[give heed to] his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
Now how can anyone born only of the flesh, meaning by natural childbirth alone, Jn 3:6
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
How can such a one have a mind set on anything other than things of the flesh ? The Mindset is only consistent with what we are by nature. The Mindset of an Gorilla can only be that of an Gorilla and not a Sparrow, Two different natures ! If we are of the Flesh, the mind set is set on things of the Flesh, which mindset Paul says is enmity against God, and so enmity against Christ !! and that's just the way it is, so the remedy Jesus states Jn 3:6-7
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Even the mindset man had in the beginning, in Adam, it was enmity against God, evidenced when tempted by the serpent !

You are a natural man trying to understand Gods word in the flesh.
Like nicodemus you do not understand the new birth and Jesus teachings. Like him you need to be born again.

I don't think there was ever a personal belief in Jesus like we read below. Faith is a requirement.
Parenthesis is Calvinism false assertion below that God gives faith. Jesus said it was THEIR faith that saved them.
Luke 7:50
And he said to the woman, Thy faith ( I have given you )hath saved thee; go in peace.
Luke 8:48
"Daughter," said Jesus, "your faith ( I have given you )has healed you. Go in peace."
Luke 17:19
Then Jesus said to him, "Rise and go; your faith( I have given you ) has made you well!"

The Natural Man cannot believe in Christ ! Thats why Jesus says of the natural man Jn 6:44
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

When you put your Faith and believe in Jesus you are not in the flesh. Christians are no longer people who are "in the flesh." Our status has been changed through faith in Christ to "in the Spirit."
Paul also tells us of how God feels about people. He is pleased with those who are in Christ because He is pleased with Christ .
Our identity with Christ makes all the difference.
God loves the world John 3:16, but He has expressed that love by sending His Son to make it possible for all who believe to be included in His family. God is pleased by human faith in Him. Without faith, it is impossible to please Him.

Right. Biblical faith/belief is far more than believing certain things to be true. Biblical saving faith is also trusting/relying on those facts.
Romans 3:22–23 says that “righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
When we place our faith in Jesus, we believe in Him, and God grants His righteousness to us. To have faith in Jesus means to trust Him. Simply. Fully. Without reservation.
