IF they counted, we'd have a nice conflict on our hands...
so there will surely be an explanation...let's check:
Numbers 14:18
‘The Lord is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generations.’
It means that God is loving BUT He will NOT clear the guilty.
The guilty are the fathers,,,those that sinned.
The iniquity....the immoral life of the fathers....(check what iniquity means) will be visited even on the children....
the children will be AFFECTED by the fathers' sins.
A woman take cocaine and is pregnant.
Her child will be visited with her iniquities...
he will be born with problems.
but the mother is responsible,,,not the child.
Job 21:19
“You say, ‘God stores away a man’s iniquity for his sons.’
Let God repay him so that he may know it.
Same as above.
Isaiah 14:21
“Prepare for his sons a place of slaughter
Because of the iniquity of their fathers.
They must not arise and take possession of the earth
And fill the face of the world with cities.”
Isaiah 14:21
21 Prepare a place to slaughter his children for the sins of their ancestors; they are not to rise to inherit the land and cover the earth with their cities.
The sins of their fathers was the taking hostage of the Israelites and all the disaster it caused.
I don't believe this should be on your list of verses. It seems to me to be totally of a different nature.
Isaiah 65:7
Both their own iniquities and the iniquities of their fathers together,” says the Lord.
“Because they have burned incense on the mountains
And scorned Me on the hills,
Therefore I will measure their former work into their bosom.”
Not relevant MT.
Isaiah is mentioning both iniquities...of their own and their fathers.
Each is responsible for his own.
Jeremiah 32:18
who shows lovingkindness to thousands, but repays the iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their children after them, O great and mighty God. The Lord of hosts is His name;
It's the same as Numbers 14:18
Lamentations 5:7
Our fathers sinned, and are no more;
It is we who have borne their iniquities.
Isaiah 14:20
“You will not be united with them in burial,
Because you have ruined your country,
You have slain your people.
May the offspring of evildoers not be mentioned forever.
The children are paying for the sins of their fathers...
same as Numbers 14:18
Luke 6:26
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way.
Not relevant.
The children suffer the consequences of the fathers' sins....
but God does not hold them personally responsible for them.
