Calvinism is Gospel !

We sin because we want to. It is a choice. It is a decision which we make. We may regret it later, but at the time it is a desire that we want to satisfy.

We sin because we have a sin nature. A carnal nature that desires to express itself through sinful practices. This dwells in our flesh.

Our carnal nature that dwells in our flesh is opposed to the Spirit.

I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
Romans 7:21-25

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. Galatians 5:17

Amen. It’s that ol’ flesh body that keeps getting in the way. But thank God, we have the victory under the blood of Christ, and it’s through our faith and trust in Jesus Christ that we can be free from all of our sins. We can’t always avoid sinning while in the flesh body because we will always have that old nature with us. But thank God, we also will have the victory when we acknowledge our sin and with a contrite heart, we repent in Jesus’ name.

David’s prayer of repentance:

Psalm 51:1-17 (NKJV) 1 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin [is] always before me. 4 Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done [this] evil in Your sight-- That You may be found just when You speak, [And] blameless when You judge. 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. 6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden [part] You will make me to know wisdom. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me hear joy and gladness, [That] the bones You have broken may rejoice. 9 Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me [by Your] generous Spirit. 13 [Then] I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You. 14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation, [And] my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. 15 O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise. 16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give [it;] You do not delight in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God [are] a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart-- These, O God, You will not despise.

We sin because we have a sin nature. A carnal nature that desires to express itself through sinful practices. This dwells in our flesh.
We need to be a little careful of views like that. The Bible doesn't speak of a sin nature. And it doesn't speak of a sinful nature.

Our carnal nature that dwells in our flesh is opposed to the Spirit.

While Paul in Romans 7 personifies sin, that does not relieve us from any responsibility for our sins. Verse 25 is certainly true, but the truth is that the flesh, like the spirit, is us.

That old saying, "The devil made me do it", is funny in context, but is not really true.
