Saint Athanasius of Alexandria spearheaded the anti-Arian cause. In fact, most of the Church was Arian leaning at that time. It's only by the Grace of God, through warriors like Saint Athanasius and ratified by Church Councils, that the Church was not totally overcome by Arianism. Again, it's really frustrating that people do not consult history but instead are content to reopen viral-laden blasphemous old heresies like Arianism. Yes, and we should say the same thing about Arminianism.
Both need to be addressed.
But I fear that Arminianism will continue and will even be a part of the apostasy that will overtake the world before Christ returns.

calvinism did not exist until the reformation and calvin got most of his teachings from augustine who brought paganism, greek philosophy and gnosctism into the church and married it with christianity.

But Calvin was able to sort those things out and left us in accordance with light of God upon his studies a very good representation of the Gospel of God.
There is still a lot of false teachings in the minds of believers today.
But in the end we will all see the same Jesus.
We will all say the same thing as God.
At least true born of God believers will.

Not everything in John applies to us but the gospel applies to all.

Collectively (as the Body of Christ), yes. [to both].

However, you missed the point about John 6:44 NOT being addressed to the Apostles, but to the unbelieving crowd that was complaining in the paragraphs above. It STILL applies to unbelieving crowds as an explanation for why SOME believe and others DO NOT. [which is why Paul teaches the same thing ... but Jesus is pithy and Paul is verbose.]

When and to whom were these words addressed?

* During the earthly ministry of Christ and the ministry of, 'them that heard Him' (the Apostles during the Acts period) only a believing remnant were to be saved, as we read in the epistle to the Romans (9 & 11). During that period those words applied. Since then salvation has been sent to the Gentiles (Acts 28:28): it is no longer, 'of the Jews' only (John 4:22), as previously, and the church which is the Body of Christ has been created,( by revelation of God through Paul, 'The Lord's Prisoner'), of which Christ is the Head. In this company, all who believe, whatever their nationality, may come to God through faith in Christ Jesus their risen Lord individually. (see Romans 5:12-8:39 & Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1&2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon), and are a united company, on an equal footing, in Christ: being identified with Christ in His death, burial, quickening, resurrection and ascension to God's right hand (in spirit). They now, in newness of life before the Father, live in thanksgiving and praise as one body in Christ, 'looking for His appearing', when they will appear with Him in glory. Though oceans and distance divide them now, they are 'one' in Him.
