Studying and Applying God's Word

Bible study is the practice—whether individually or within a group—of reading, interpreting, and applying Scripture to daily life. Christians don't study the Bible simply to amass information they won't use. The point of Bible study is to know God and prepare believers to do God's work in the world.

Nice link. I use logos Bible Software myself. Have been since it first came out. I especially Love the free book of the month feature.:ROFLMAO:
So yeah, I'm quite the bible study fan.

So I clicked on "How to do an In-Depth study ..." and was somewhat surprised that the first quote given there was by Charle Ryrie, who is a Dispensational fanatic. If he's an example of someone who uses these methods of study, then I'm not buying it. So right off the bat, it appears that your whole post may have a dispensational bent to it. I hope I'm wrong, but if that's true, then to do God's work in the world is to spread dispensationalism, right? Later in the video, Rick Warren is giving some suggestions for Bible study and yet he has been disfellowshiped from the SBC, because his church ordained 3 women as pastors, which goes directly against Paul's clear instruction that only men can be pastors in the church.

If those 2 men are examples of what we can expect when we follow this video on "in-depth Bible study", then, no thanks, I don't need false teaching.

There are other issues as well. I've never been able to see how an in-depth Bible study can take place in a group. I have attended a Bible study for close to two years, and I don't really think I've gleaned much at all spiritually, but I have made new friends, and I am grateful for that. On the other hand, I have had my understanding of scripture reinforced because of the countless times when individuals in the Bible study have expressed view points that I definitely don't believe the scripture teaches. So I could say I learned more about what not to believe rather than what to believe.

Also, God has put gifted Bible teachers in the body of Christ. When we are fortunate enough to come across one or two, we can learn more from them in 5 minutes than months of Bible study either in a group, or individually. I didn't see that this video even mentioned that. A gifted Bible teacher doesn't claim that his interpretation is right, and all others are false. He humbly submits his view and even alternative views are presented, but he is willing to explain from the scripture why he believes his view is correct and other view are not. He often adds, "I could be wrong." A "teacher" who is not willing to do this is not a true gifted Bible teacher.

Finally, there's very little information in the Bible that we can't use - if that was not true, then why would God waste His time putting it in there?

Some very useful questions to ask when studying a passage of scripture:

Who is talking to whom?

What is the time and place?

What is the reason for speaking?

What is the occasion?

Get these set, and the full meaning of a passage becomes clear.

Amen feeding on the living word as our sustenance. Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. :)

Hello @civic,

Yes, I have been reading the word of God today, and marvelling at the way it is written, conveying the truth with such precision, power and grace, that if there were no other point of reference, it, in itself, contains all that we need to be fully conversant with the truth that God would have us find within it's pages.

Within the love of Christ our Saviour,
Our risen and glorified,
Saviour, Lord and Head.
looking for His Appearing with expectancy.

Studying and Applying God's Word

'For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Looking for that blessed hope,
and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity,
and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority.
Let no man despise thee.'

(Tit 2:11-15)

Praise God!

No problem I respect your opinion. I've never been a big Rick Warren fan. I always figured that Ryrie Would be okay since he produced The Ryrie Study Bible.

Anyway thanks for letting me know.

Your welcome. Also Scofield produced the Scofield Study Bible, which is mostly dispensationalism, MacArthur produced the MacArthur Study Bible, which is cessationist, dispensationalist, and Calvinist, etc., so it's not really a badge of honor to write a study Bible. In addition to their doctrinal bias, it's always a danger that new or unlearned believers will take their comments as being equal with the scripture.

There's nothing wrong with stating your opinion, but don't put it side-by-side with the entire text of the word of God and then call it a Study Bible.

I guess you just have to find a pastor that you trust and use their study bible. I have a few of those. And they're all non-denominational. I like the information that comes with it if the date it was written, who it was written to, the main theme, stuff like that. Plus the cross references.

I thought I made myself clear, if any "pastor" has created a "study Bible", I would not want him to be my pastor, because he had the audacity to place his own words right along side the words of God, implying that his "interpretation" is just as true and genuine as God's word is.

You can't study and apply God's Word when you add to God's Word, change God's Word, and subtract from God's Word, and Gentiles are guilty of this very thing.
Scripture cannot be broken, Jesus said, and He was referring to the Law, Psalms, and the Prophets. Any interpretation that contradicts what is written in the Law, Psalms, and the Prophets is only lies in order to support Gentile agenda.

True born Christians are supposed to take the Scripture as written and that is the bottom line. Adding to God's Word shows yourself a liar, like Adam and the woman when they added to God's Word and said, "Neither shall ye touch it" thus fulfilling Proverbs 30:6.

They sinned before the sin of eating from the forbidden tree thus destroying the Gentile teaching of a "Fall."

6 Add thou not unto his words,
Lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Proverbs 30:6.

Glad you said that. so where in God's word ... OT or NT, where he said for a third temple to be built by any natural human man, or a group of people? also, the book chapter and verse where the Jews or anyone human to build a third temple.

101G.

It all DEPENDS on the methodology!!!

101G.
A third Temple is implied in Daniel in the OT:

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. Danny 9:27.

Desolations can only be made in a Temple. And being that Danny boy is prophesying about the future antichrist that will come and make a covenant with Israel then break it mid-week which is after 3 1/2 years of the seven-year tribulation to come upon Israel and the world.

And again, it is referenced in John's prophecies of the end-times:

1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
Rev. 11:1-4

Israel has everything they need to build their Temple. It will be built, and sacrifices will again be made which will piss off the Arab nations, Iran, and other enemies of Israel.
