I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. (Acts 20:29-30)

What happened after the wolves entered was that the 1st Corinthians Chapter 4 type of people took over. Lacking the spiritual substance of the apostles, the focus was on gravitating towards those who were disciples of the apostles.
The focus on scholarly pursuits resulted in a church who no longer had the spiritual power. So thus the original versions of the creed applied a heavy curse (anathema) to anyone who didn't believe in it. This curse remains to this day, which is why some people appear to be under the law, but what's happening is something else altogether.
Of course this has progressed to the current day scenario where people desperate to regain that spiritual umph the church once had they accept anything as long it produces results .. even if it's occult in nature.
It's fairly depressing to write this, but perhaps having a space to discuss it would be healthy. I hope so anyway.
May the true source be exhibited in the present day, and bring faith hope and love to people's hearts in the name of the Father and of he Son and the Holy Ghost. In Jesus name, Amen.
