Made in the image and likeness of God

Genesis 1:26-27
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

After the fall the bible still says man is in the image of God

Genesis 9:6
Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man his blood will be shed; for in His own image God has made mankind.

The N.T. also confirms this truth

1 Corinthians 11:7
A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

James 3:9
With the tongue we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness.

conclusion: Gods image in man has not changed. It remains the same. Its why man is redeemable because man is still made in God image and likeness.

hope this helps !!!

hmmm I thought there would be more interest in this topic since many believe after the fall man changed.

Something definitely changed by our fall, that is, by our choice to rebel, but it was not our being in HIS likeness. Our free will choice to rebel caused us to become enslaved to sin because of its addicting properties which overrides our free will until we are reborn by / in the Holy Spirit. As addicted to evil our ability to fulfill our free will decision to become HIS bride was seriously impaired and so we needed a saviour to redeem us and to sanctify us, returning us first to our pre-fall state and then to bring us to full holiness.

"And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:"
Genesis 5:3

In 1 Corinthians 11:7, he's a saved man, being reconciled back unto God, he's then back in His likeness, & His image b/c his identity is now found in Christ Jesus?

"And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit."
1 Corinthians 15:45

Perhaps since Adam's fall, from Seth onward, we were made in Adam's own likeness, after Adam's fallen image, spiritually separated from God until saved?

Would welcome anyone's thoughts :)

made:
S1096 gínomai – properly, to emerge, become, transitioning from one point (realm, condition) to another.

1096 (ginomai) means "to become, and signifies a change of condition, state or place" (Vine, Unger, White, NT, 109).

Not a proof but this word is easily seen as able to support the idea that our being sown into mankind, Matt 13:356-39 is not our creation but a change of state from being a spirit in the spirit world Sheol to the physical world of mankind at conception.

Interpreting the word ginomai as made supports the preconception of our being created on earth but it has no more strength than does the interpretation as changed to become which fits the preconception of our pre-earth existence.

Greetings, TedT! Thank you for sharing :)

Upon discovering Genesis 5:3, it's caused me to heed telling others we're all made in God's likeness, & God's image, b/c a lost person might presume they're acceptable just as they are, dead in their sin nature, no need for a Saviour. It does make sense, though... we can know what God looks like manifest in the flesh b/c Jesus has shown us all (John 14:9).
