Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."
What do we learn here?
I know the created on earth bias interprets this as about thee, but it does open the door to accept it is possible that we existed previously to our human form being created on earth.

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible sums it up well:
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee,.... Not merely by his omniscience, so he knows all men before their conception and birth; but with such a knowledge as had special love and affection joined with it; implying a personal relationship with not knowledge about as per:
Matthew 7:
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’


Obviously He knew all about them but He did not have a personal relationship with them as GOD suggests HE had with Jeremiah.

If the Scripture said, I knew thee when you were a little child, we would say that Jeremiah existed at that time. If it said, I knew thee when you were in the womb, we would interpret it as saying that Jeremiah existed at that time.

Why then, when the time moves back before the womb, does "I know thee" mean something else, to wit: “I knew about thee"? In the natural use of the word “knew", it is impossible to know someone before they exist, no matter how much you know about them.

You must be careful to not mix up knowing and knowing about.

These are two different things. For example, Christians know Jesus, demons know about Jesus. This difference is also brought out in Matthew 25:12, where Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not... to the five foolish virgins.

He obviously knew all about them, He just did not know them. Mighty big difference! Well this also means that there is a mighty big difference between GOD knowing Jeremiah and GOD knowing about Jeremiah.

Since I believe that GOD knows about this difference, then when GOD says to me that HE knew Jeremiah before his conception, I believe that GOD is sort of telling me that Jeremiah existed before his conception.

If GOD was not bearing witness to Jeremiah's preconception existence in this verse, would you please tell me what HE was revealing? Was it HIS omniscience, that is, was HE telling Jeremiah that HE knew all about him before HE made him in the womb, that is, before he was created?

But Jeremiah needed no revelation of GOD's omniscience. Jeremiah was a priest. He was trained in the Scriptures and the Jews knew about GOD's omniscience long before his time.
Jer 1:5 just means that God is not bound by space nor time. He can see the future just as easily as we see the present. It doesn't mean that we existed as spirits before we were born, as Mormons incorrectly assume. That heresy was similar to a heresy that Origen was anathemized for by the Church.

When Does the Fetus’s Brain Begin to Work?​


In just the fifth week after conception, the first synapses begin forming in a fetus’s spinal cord. By the sixth week, these early neural connections permit the first fetal movements–spontaneous arches and curls of the whole body–that researchers can detect through ultrasound imaging. Many other movements soon follow–of the limbs (around eight weeks) and fingers (ten weeks), as well as some surprisingly coordinated actions (hiccuping, stretching, yawning, sucking, swallowing, grasping, and thumb-sucking). By the end of the first trimester, a fetus’s movement repertoire is remarkably rich, even though most pregnant women can feel none of it. (Most women sense the first fetal movements around eighteen weeks of pregnancy.)

The second trimester marks the onset of other critical reflexes: continuous breathing movements (that is, rhythmic contractions of the diaphragm and chest muscles) and coordinated sucking and swallowing reflexes. These abilities are controlled by the brainstem, which sits above the spinal cord but below the higher, more recently-evolved cerebral cortex. The brainstem is responsible for many of our body’s most vital functions–heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure. Fetal brain activity is largely mature by the end of the second trimester, which is when babies first become able to survive outside the womb.

Last of all to mature is the cerebral cortex, which is responsible for most of what we think of as mental life–conscious experience, voluntary actions, thinking, remembering, and feeling. It has only begun to function around the time gestation comes to an end. Premature babies show very basic electrical activity in the primary sensory regions of the cerebral cortex–those areas that perceive touch, vision, and hearing–as well as in primary motor regions of the cerebral cortex. In the last trimester, fetuses are capable of simple forms of learning, like habituating (decreasing their startle response) to a repeated auditory stimulus, such as a loud clap just outside the mother’s abdomen. Late-term fetuses also seem to learn about the sensory qualities of the womb, since several studies have shown that newborn babies respond to familiar odors (such as their own amniotic fluid) and sounds (such as a maternal heartbeat or their own mother’s voice). In spite of these rather sophisticated abilities, babies enter the world with a still-primitive cerebral cortex, and it is the gradual maturation of this complex part of the brain that explains much of their emotional and cognitive maturation in the first few years of life.

- Now think about Samuel and his mother!
- She took decisions that would influence his whole life and that before he was born!

- Now Yah.weh set Jeremiah apart and appointed him a prophet when he was in the womb, not before!

- Now you must take into account the fact that Ancient Hebrew is very limited compared to Ancient Greek!
- Meaning that one word can be used in different contexts and can be translated by different words in modern languages!
- The Hebrew word traduced by know can also mean to have sexual relations!

Very good...except we have a very notable anomaly in Gen 25: 21-23 in which the twins were fighting so hard to crush each other to pieces, (ratsats is not wiggling to get more room!) that Rebecca went to GOD about it and learned they were murderous because they wanted to be first born!
How could they know about the Hebrew laws of primogeniture?
How could they know what family or culture they would be born into?
How could they know that murdering their sibling would give them the rights of the first born?

Isn't it obvious that their spirits knew these things and they not tabula rasa bound by the deficiencies of their immature brains? The obvious answer to these questions is that they existed as spirits in heaven or Sheol (before being sown into their bodies, Matt 13:36-39, where they heard all about these things and brought that knowledge with them into their earthly bodies.

The only reason to reject this FACE VALUE understanding of an otherwise impossible story is because of the established tradition which we inherited from those paragons of theology, the Rabbis, that we are created on earth and have no existence prior to our conception <facepalm>.

Everyone not orthodox Catholic is someone's heretic. And every heresy is built upon a truth or it is another religion not a heresy of the Christian religion. Origen's anathematization is hotly disputed as to whether it actually ever happened but unless your own theology is perfectly in accord with the General Council of May, 553, then by your standards here, you too are a heretic.

Obviously He knew all about them but He did not have a personal relationship with them as GOD suggests HE had with Jeremiah and which leads me to suggest one cannot have a loving personal relationship with someone who doesn't exist, someone who is a figment of our imagination.

I personally don't think this is a "knock you over the head" proof verse of our pre-conception existence but apparently it was enough to sway Origen, the Father of Modern Theology.

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind: John 9:1–23
1 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.
2 And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.


How does it make sense that the disciples ask if the man was born blind due to his own sin, if they did not believe in the pre-existence of the spirit/person able to sin before their birth on earth? Notice Jesus did not correct them for making an error about their creation but only about the reason for his suffering.

Dec. 3, 2012&#151; -- Sibling rivalry can apparently begin even before birth and researchers in London have remarkable footage of twins fighting for legroom in the womb.

The footage shows the legs of the smaller of the two fetuses extending into the space of the larger fetus, as if trying to push it back or kick at it, although it's not certain what is really going on between the fetuses.

"If you've got two fetuses in the womb, they can't possibly stay in their own space," Dr. Marjorie Greenfield, division chief of general obstetrics and gynecology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, told ABCNews.com.

Greenfield is hesitant to call the movement fighting, but she still finds the video interesting.

"Twins have been kicking in wombs for millennia," said Greenfield. "Only now we're able to experience it like this."

The scientists used cinematic-MRI, which utilizes magnetic resonance imaging to string together moving pictures from inside the body. Unlike CAT scans, the procedure does not use radiation and is far safer for the fetus.

The video comes from a study aimed at diagnosing a rare but increasingly more common condition unique to identical twins. Called twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, the condition causes the twins' blood flow to essentially become interconnected. One baby inevitably loses out to the other, receiving less blood, and stops growing. The other baby then grows dangerously fast, putting it at risk of cardiovascular complications and premature birth.

Doctors hope cinematic-MRI technology, which has been used on pregnant women before, will become a more common tool for identifying twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome as more innovations that fix the life threatening issue become available.

Where would that pre-existence sinning occur? In heaven? In a previous life? Sounds like reincarnation.
