John Piper: Born again through faith in the gospel

Is that what saved a person from the penalty of their sins ? Yes or no
Indeed yes

Romans 10:9–10 (LEB) — 9 that if you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation.

John 3:16 (LEB) — 16 For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.

Ephesians 2:8–9 (LEB) — 8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 it is not from works, so that no one can boast.

Acts 16:31 (LEB) — 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household!”

Romans 3:24–25 (LEB) — 24 being justified as a gift by his grace, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God made publicly available as the mercy seat through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness, because of the passing over of previously committed sins,

Sorry you ignore these

You ignore that the Gospel is hid to the Lost, their minds are blinded by satan the god of this world. The word hid καλύπτω is in the perfect tense and it means : to hide, veil, i. e. to hinder the knowledge of a thing: perfect passive,

So the Spiritual knowledge/understanding of the Gospel is hid, the knowledge of it is hindered.

By it being in the perfect tense, its an completed action in the past and remains true in the present and future

@TomL

Duh, that says nothing about being born again to believe the gospel

Jesus said it like this Jn 3:3

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Exact same thing just in different words, men cant believe/understand the Gospel, the things of God unless they are born again, see also 1 Cor 2:14

Do you have faith in the gospel? Really?

You place your faith in The gospel, meaning "good news," refering to the message about Jesus Christ, including his life, death, and resurrection, which offers salvation and reconciliation with God. It encompasses both the specific message of forgiveness through faith in Jesus and the broader promise of God's renewal of the world. Okay.

I place my faith in the sacrificial death of Christ on the cross. As the incarnate and perfect Son of God, Jesus is the only one who could absorb the punishment for our sins and save us from God’s wrath . He is the only one who could die in our place .

And while this is in the gospel it seems to distance one in relying on a written word then to draw closer to the actual savior to whom I have been known to talk to and I have never done that to a written word.

Blessings
That is the gospel His death, burial and resurrection. @TomL would never in a million years disagree.

The Gospel is far more than stating the historical fact of Christ, death , burial, and resurrection, each of those aspects need to be how they are according to scripture. That takes elaboration, laboring in the word of God, the OT even, for that was the scripture used by Paul in his ministry.

Paul reasoned with folk from the scripture Acts 17:2

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

Now who is Christ according to scripture ? What was His objectives according to scripture, What did He accomplish according to scripture ?

Except if he does not believe he is not born again

1 Peter 1:23 (LEB) — 23 because you have been born again, not from perishable seed but imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

James 1:18 (LEB) — 18 By his will he gave birth to us through the message of truth, so that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

John 1:12–13 (LEB) — 12 But as many as received him—to those who believe in his name—he gave to them authority to become children of God, 13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a husband, but of God.

Absolutely False, Christ saved His People from the penalty of their sins, not preaching. Preaching announces the Good News of what Christ has done in saving His People from their sins
Only believers are saved

John 3:16 (LEB) — 16 For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.

Acts 16:31 (LEB) — 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household!”

Mark 16:16 (LEB) — 16 The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who refuses to believe will be condemned.

Acts 2:21 (LEB) — 21 And it will be that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.’

Sorry the gospel is to be proclaimed to all

The Gospel is far more than stating the historical fact of Christ, death , burial, and resurrection, each of those aspects need to be how they are according to scripture. That takes elaboration, laboring in the word of God, the OT even, for that was the scripture used by Paul in his ministry.

Duh his reasoning was proclaiming the gospel so they would believe and be saved

Acts 17:3–4 (NASB95) — 3 explaining and giving evidence that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ.” 4 And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, along with a large number of the God-fearing Greeks and a number of the leading women.

Peter would not have known who Jesus the Son of God was unless by special revelation from God Matt 16

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

Peter could not have believed that by nature, flesh and blood,

so how can anyone else ?
As a technical point of reference, something is that known by revelation of God doesn’t necessarily mean that what is revealed is believed by those to whom it has been revealed.

As has been pointed out already, the gospel is revealed by the preaching of the gospel. And preaching can be accepted or rejected, as we see in Acts 17 with Paul in Athens.

God must reveal the truth to all of us; one of the jobs of the Holy Spirit is to convict the world of sin, that is to reveal the reality of our standing with God! We are not born again at that point, and yet we know and understand the truth being revealed, and we are placed in the position of making a choice about what is revealed.
