Here's aq prophecy foretelling a coming King that shall rise from the tribe of Judah. Yes, we have the prophecy but according to you we're not supposed to mingle ourselves in such things because it ministers questions rather than godly edifying. The thing is...the only way to identify this King we have to study the lineage of One who claimed to be the "Christ", the Messiah in order to follow Him and place our trust in Him as our prophesied, Righteous King.
No, we NEED to look at genealogies in order to rightly identify the right man who claims the mantle of "Christ" so that we do not follow a fraud, a false king. Once Jesus claimed outright to be the Messiah ("Christ") it was important to ask those questions that minister to godly edifying. It was important that this person is the righteous BRANCH that shall come. The prophecy was given and now we search the tribes, the genealogies in order to find the right man. Joshua did the same thing to find out who was disobedient and brought sin and curse into the Camp of God:
17 And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:
18 And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

If someone doesn't know where he came from with regard to genealogy then they don't know where they stand nor know where they are going.
Jesus' genealogy is given by God. And if God says it is important, then I will study genealogy and come to the knowledge of the truth.
