The doctrine of faith and salvation. Faith Basics 101
πίστις, (a) faith, belief, trust, generally of the leaning of the entire human personality (This would be mind, body, heart, yes?) upon God or the Messiah ( Who were ONE in Mind, body and heart. yes?) in absolute trust and confidence in His power, His wisdom, and His goodness.
This is a wonderful definition of Faith, and we have been given scores of examples of mortal humans who exhibited this Faith, written by the Inspiration of
God or the Messiah, and given to any man who desires to know Him, written for our admonition, for our sakes no doubt, for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: From Abel, to Abraham, to David and Rehab, who risked the life of herself an her family, "in absolute trust and confidence in God and
His power,
His wisdom, and
His goodness. And the greatest example of Faith in a Human every shown, is the works of the Messiah, showing "absolute trust and confidence in God and
His power,
His wisdom, and
His goodness" from a child of 12 years old, to His Murder at 30 + years old. All these things that happened to them, happened for our admonition, "
That the man of God may be perfect, (As God and the Messiah Commanded) throughly furnished unto all good works."
Not works of man's righteousness which they have done, or living by "Man's Works" promoted by this world's religious system, "who called Jesus Lord, Lord", but those who strive with all their heart, mind and body to "Yield themselves" unto God in absolute trust and confidence in a His Power, His Wisdom, His goodness.
Truly this is the doctrine of Faith Basics 101.
The older meaning,
intellectual conviction of certain truths, is often present. (In
Eph. 1:15
15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
17 That "the God" of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of His wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know "what is the hope" of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Luke 18:
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
According to the Jesus of the Bible in Matt. 7:22, HE will find when HE returns,
"MANY" who call Him Lord, Lord, but not "MANY" who submit themselves to the Faith Basics 101 as described above.
HE was specifically careful to warn men not to be deceived, not by atheists or pagans, but HE warned through the mouths of the Prophets, Himself and the Apostles over and over, not to be deceived by men "Who come in HIS Name, who "Profess to know God". In fact, the very first example of deception given to us by the Oracles of God, was from a voice who "professed to know God, and even quoted "SOME" of God's Word to deceive Eve.
It seems that if we trust HIM in
absolute trust and confidence in a His Power, His Wisdom, His goodness, we should take extra caution concerning the many religious sects that make up this world's religious system, and the doctrines and philosophies they promote.

[1] Lexicon to the Greek New Testament.
1-You are not born with faith, it comes from hearing Gods word(
Rom 10:17)
Civic, isn't a child "born with faith" in it's mother? And it doesn't even question it for years. When it's hungry, it reaches for mom, when it is tired, hurt, distressed, it goes to it's mother. It desires the company of it's mother in joy, happiness, fear or pain. It's born with the absolute trust and confidence in it's mother's power, wisdom, and goodness. Is this not even Nature defining for us the Faith Basics 101? I believe this is why Jesus said to "come to ME as little children".
It is true that we are not born with Faith
in God. We must "submit ourselves" unto God, as Paul teaches, that we might come to know Him as we knew our mother.
Rom. 12:1.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that "ye present" your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Isn't this what it means to be "born again"?
And by the Mercy and Grace of God, we are born with the "Faith" required. We just need to direct it towards God.
2-You cannot be saved without faith.(
John 3:36)
This is true from birth. Without the blind Faith a child has for it's mother, given to him by God, it could not survive.
3-No peace with God without faith.(
Rom 5:1)
The Peace God gives, is not the peace of this world. But this is true, without faith their is no God's Peace.
4-You are justified by faith(
Gal 2:16)
Yes, we are justified "
by absolute trust and confidence in a His Power, His Wisdom, His goodness,"
Unless of course, we only hear His Instruction in righteousness, and do not Trust Him enough to be "Doers" of His Sayings. But then, if a person lived by absolute trust and confidence in a His Power, His Wisdom, His goodness, they wouldn't be just "hearers only".
5-Christ dwells in our hearts by faith (
Eph 3:17)
Yes, as it is written:
Eph. 2: 10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto "good works", which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (As Jesus walked in them) After all, it is written: "
He that saith he abideth "in him" ought himself also so "to walk", even as "he walked".
This would be "Proof of ones faith", shown by their works, Yes?
6-The Spirit is received by faith (
Gal 3:2)
This is true, as Peter declares to the promoters of the mainstream religious system of the world God placed him in, "who professed to know God".
Acts 5:
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to "obey God" rather than men. (Faith Basics 101)
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. 31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, (AKA, the Spirit of God) whom God hath given to them "that obey him".
The Galatians were not being "Bewitched" by men who were trying to convince men to "Walk even as Jesus Walked" or to "Live by
Every Word of God" as Jesus taught. They had a Law they promoted, but it wasn't God's Law. It's important to remember that the Pharisees were still promoting a corrupted version of the Levitical Priesthood which required certain sacrificial "works of the Law" for remission of sins, "Added Till the SEED should come". The Spirit of Christ pointed these peoples religion out in Is. 1 and Romans 3, and Hebrews 7-10 speaks in detail what there "Works" were.
There are "many" who come in Christ's Name in this world's religious system who promote the falsehood that the Pharisees were trying to get the Galatians to "
absolutely trust and confidence in a His Power, His Wisdom, His goodness,", but they were not. They were trying to get the Galatians to adopted their religious sects which full well rejected the Commandments of god that they might keep their own man-made traditions.
7- You become a child of God through faith (
John 1:12-13 )
Yes, through "
absolute trust and confidence in a His Power, His Wisdom, His goodness,".
Jesus said we are to "Live by" His Words defining these things.
8- You are sealed with the Holy Spirit after you believe the gospel (
Ephesians 1:13 )
Yes.
Eph. 1:
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame "before him" in love:
This can not be accomplished without "absolute trust and confidence in a His Power, His Wisdom, His goodness,". AKA, "Faith in God".
Great topic, important issue.
