If the answer is yes, can that soul be separated from the body? What is this phenomenon called when it takes place? Is it not called death? Which part of the person who died is the real person? Well, I have been to a hundred cemeteries and all the grave markers has a name of an individual on it. Obviously the people who were charged with burying the body thought it belonged to some soul.
The question now becomes; is death the end of the story for the body and the soul of that person? Not according to Jesus Christ, who, BTW, possessed a body and a soul like all people. He is the God Man, and, the Man who is God, and he possessed the Spirit of God in his body while he was on the earth, as well as now. This made him the only man until that time who had ever been born as a three part man. He had the Spirit of God dwelling in his mortal body, as well as his soul. I know his body was mortal because it could and did die. His soul and the Spirit of God was not in his body after he died and so they put it in a tomb. But his soul and Spirit was somewhere and God raised him from the dead. He is the only man until that time who was ever raised from the dead never to face dying again. His soul and his Spirit came again into his body and it was glorified.
What does this prove? It proves that a man is not like the god of the oneness preachers. The oneness preachers are not in the image of their god. They are two in one and one in two, but their god is not like them. He is one only. He cannot dwell in their bodies in the person of his spirit like our triune God dwelt in the body of Jesus and dwells in every believer who has been "born again of the Spirit, who was and is and always will be Jesus Christ."
Jesus Christ was a full grown man when he went to the cross. I am going to guess he weighed about 175 pounds when he was put into the tomb. He was resurrected three days later as a full grown glorified man and he appeared to many for 40 days and then ascended in his obvious bodily form to heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father on his throne, where he is now. Yet for all that the scriptures says this;
1Jo 5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Ro 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
The saved man will have an internal witness and this witness is Jesus Christ because he indwells the body of the believer. But he does not indwell him physically. The idea of that is absurd. A physical Jesus does not dwell in a believer. A physical Jesus sits on the throne in Heaven where God the Father is presently. But Jesus Christ dwells in the bodies of individual believers the world over and testifies of his presence in the person of his omnipresent Spirit nonetheless. He can do this because that his divine Spirit is his Spirit just as the soul of man is his soul, whether it is in his body or whether it is not. He gives us HIS Spirit as the gift of eternal life if and when we believe in his person and work. It is equally as important to believe in his person as it is to believe in his work.
If a man is going to be born, he must have a father. It is the only way to be born. He must have a body and a soul (self identity). If he is going to be born again, he must be born of the heavenly Father and he must receive his Spirit. He will receive his glorified body from the Father at his coming for him. It is the blessed hope.
I thank my God that he is not like the god of the oneness preachers. If he were I could not be born again.
Joh 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life (the Spirit of God and of Christ), and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life (the Spirit) in himself;
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Mt 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Re 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death (the body) and hell (the soul - body and soul =same person just in different places until this event) delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Ro 6:23 For the wages of sin[is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The saved man is a trinity and in the image of Christ, who is the express image of God, because he has the Spirit of Christ indwelling him. Soul, body, and Spirit of God and of Christ. One in three and three in one.
I would be interested to know if any oneness preachers would agree with anything in this post.
