This is Fred's evidence of 1Corinthians 12:13 being Holy Spirit baptism.
Fred believes the order of events proves which baptism water vs Holy Spirit baptism saved Cornelius.
Notice every faith onlyist I've ever discussed salvation with uses Cornelius' conversion, Acts 10 and Acts 11.
They never use or mention Acts 8 or Acts 19.
These two conversions show us water baptism occurs first then the pouring out of the Holy Spirit by the laying on of the apostles hands occur afterwards.
Why dont they use other conversion stories?
Why did they insist on only using Acts 10 with Cornelius?
Simple, because other conversions have water baptism BEFORE recieving the Holy Spirit.
Does this prove water baptism is the baptism that saves?
No it does not!!!!
The order of which baptism occurs first is not proof of which baptism saves.
Only poor Bible students use this argument.
Acts 8:5-25,
- Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ unto them
- and the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did
The gospel preacher Philip had gifts of the Holy Spirit.
He confirmed his gospel was from God by the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Something Fred cannot do even through Fred claims he was saved with the same outpouring of the Spirit that Cornelius and Philip could prove with miracles.
Acts 8:5-25,
12,
- but when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ they were baptized(water 1st) both men and women
- then Simon himself believed also and when he was baptized(water 1st.) he continued with Philip and wonderful beholding the miracles and signs which were done(by Philip)
- now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God(gospel) they sent Peter and John,

- who when they were come down, prayed for them that they might recieve the Holy Spirit
16,
- for as yet He WAS FALLEN UPON NONE OF THEM YET, ONLY THEY WERE BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS,
17,
- then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit
Now we know Fred's argue that which ever baptism comes first proves which baptism saves is Tomfoolery.
THE BIBLE DOES NOT TEACH WHAT FRED TEACHES.
Note: I want everyone who reads this to learn an important lesson about how to know which baptism is being discussed in the new testament.
Notice the people of Samaria were first water baptized.
What does the Bible call water baptism?
Verse 16 tell you,
- for as yet He(Holy Spirit) was fallen upon none of them only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus
So we've learned that any time baptism in the name of the Lord is being discussed.
It is water baptism NOT Holy Spirit baptism.
Does Philip's gospel include water baptism?
Yes it does.
Does Peter's gospel in Acts 10:47-48 include water baptism? Yes
Notice the same phrase used: Acts 10:47-48,
- and Peter commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord...
What baptism according to Scripture is for the forgiveness of sins?
Acts 2:38,
- then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins,
and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit
Water baptism is for the forgiveness of sins.
Which baptism saved those in Samaria? Acts 8?
Which baptism saved the Jews on pentecost, Acts 2?
Which baptism saved Cornelius in Acts 10?
Notice:,
Acts 2:38. First water baptism then receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Not before water baptism after.
Acts 8, First water baptism then received gifts of the Holy Spirit. Not before water baptism but after.
Acts 10, First gift of tongue speaking then commanded to be water baptized. First Holy Spirit then water baptism.
Acts 19:1-7, First water baptism, then received the Holy Spirit giving gifts. Not before water baptism but after.
THE ORDER DOES NOT PROVE WHICH BAPTISM SAVES.
Fred's argument is a poor argument.
Next Fred uses the Holy Spirit baptism given to 1st. Century Christians as evidence that 1Corinthians 12:13 is therefore Holy Spirit baptism.
He uses John 7:37-39 as proof that 1Corinthians 12:13 is the same baptism.
Problem with this interpretation is these are all MIRACULOUS gifts being given by the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
So if 1Corinthians 12:13 is teaching that to be added to the one body which is the church, Colossians 1:18.
Then every christian who is added to the body in baptism recieve miraculous gifts from the Holy Spirit.
1Corinthians 12:13,
- for by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body/church whether we be Jews or gentiles whether we be bond or free and have been all made to drink into one Spirit
In Acts 2:38 their repentance and water baptism gave them access to Gods grace,
- repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit
1Corinthians 12:13 could be understood in water baptism one receives the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- all made to drink into one Spirit,
All are baptized into one body. All are given the same Spirit. All receive spiritual gifts from the same Spirit.
All are taught the saving gospel by the One Spirit. All of those added to the church therefore have received spiritual blessings by the same Spirit.
Paul is teaching unity among the brethren the church here in Corinth.
So by the One Spirit all are baptized and made to drink into one Spirit.
If - all made to drink into one Spirit is a reference to John 7:37-39 then all have today the same miraculous gifts the 1st. Century christians have in the 12 and 13th chapter of 1Corinthians.
I believe water baptism is the one baptism that adds us to the one body.
So, 1Corinthians 12:13 can teach on spiritual gifts but also the water baptism that puts us into the church can be for ALL sinners that have been saved and added to the body.
There is no need to explain how these gifts that accompany Holy Spirit baptism does not apply to everyone who is added to the body if the baptism in 1Corinthians 12:13 is water.
