Why are you interested at all in The Father?

I'm trying to follow this thread. For me, what I understand is that God loves us, but hates sin. This is why a way was made for us to be reconciled to Him ---through His Son, a member of the Godhead. Before Christ was made a sacrifice, if someone sinned, they had to bring a sacrifice to be forgiven. Of course this sacrifice was symbolic of Jesus death. But once a year, it was the High Priest who went into the Holy of Holies to appear before God and cleanse the camp. There was always an intercessor.

The God that interacted with man in the OT was Jesus.

When He came to earth,Jesus emptied himself (if you want something to keep you awake for hours, think about that--He emptied himself) He died for us, and and while still the Son, He is also High priest. It is all over the book of Hebrews) We cannot go directly to the Father without Him.He intercedes for us, so that we go to the Father through Him, just as it was when sacrifice was made in the OT. God sees us through Jesus. He pleads our cases with His Blood. With Him, we can go boldly to the throne of grace. This is why we pray through Him to Him.

Thanks for your response, Quintus.
Then why are you interested in going to the Father? I know you do it through Jesus, but why do you want to go to The Father?
Why is The Father your desire, or hope? What does the Father has for you? What do you need from Him?

It might help you to understand the OP has previously denied the deity of Christ.

And also denies the unique authority of Scripture as a member of the Baháʼí Faith.
I would be making the same question if I was a Jew, or a Zoroastrian, or a Muslim, or a Druze, or a Sikh, or a person with no religion.
Why are you interested in the Father, my friend?
What special thing He adds to your daily life? What does He offer to you? What to you need from Him?
When you pray to the Father… do you praise Him? Do you submit your will to his will? Do you ask Him to grant you food, health… to forgive your sins and deliver you from temptations? Do you thank The Father, as Paul did, and ask Him to bless others?

We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you. Colossians 1:3

There are some passages in the OT that speak about Christ... the messianic passages.
Jesus didn't say that all the OT was about Him. Please examine the verses you have quoted.
Again, if I am misundertanding you, please let me know.

If all the OT were about Jesus, then, was Jesus introducing to the people a new God when He talked about the Father?
Who was the Father, then? Why didn't Jesus have to explain who The Father was?
Jesus quoted the Torah normally, as any Hebrew, and spoke about the God of Israel in third person.
Furthermore, Jesus was clear that the God that his Jewish apostles believing in was also His God.

If the OT was about Jesus, what is the role of the Father in the OT?
Since God took the form of a man in the person of the preincarnate Jesus Christ this has to mean that Jesus Christ is God. So on what basis do I come to this conclusion? On the basis of what Jesus Christ Himself said at John 6:46, "Not that any man hath seen the Father, except he who is from God, he hath seen the Father." And on the basis of the testimony of Old Testament saints themselves. Look at Genesis 16:13, "Then she/Hagar called the name OF THE LORD WHO spoke to her, Thou art a God who sees; for she said, Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him." Genesis 18 reading the whole chapter. Here is what vs1 states, "Now the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while he/Abraham was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day." Please read the rest of the chapter and cross reference what Genesis 21:2 says regarding Genesis 18. "So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time OF WHICH GOD HAD SPOKEN TO HIM."

And who appeared to Isaac at Genesis 26:2? "And the Lord appeared to him and said, "Do not go down to Egypt, stay in the land of which I shall tell you." Now look at Genesis 26:3, "Sojourn in this land and I will be with you and bless you, for to your and to your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will ESTABLISH THE OATH WHICH I SWORE TO YOUR FATHER ABRAHAM."

Where did God swear this oath to Abraham ? Look at the whole chapter of Genesis 22 specifically verses 11-18. It was the angel of the Lord/Jesus Christ who swore the oath and He is identified as, what did you say, "God introduced Himself in the first person singular as "The Being." In fact, even the New Testament backs up this first person singular being swearing the oath by Himself at Hebrews 6:13,14, "For when GOD made the promise to Abraham, SINCE HE COULD NOT SWEAR BY NO ONE GREATER, HE SWORE BY HIMSELF. saying, "I will surely bless you; and I will surely multiply you." If you believe that it was an angel that swore the oath on Gods behalf than why does the text say God swore the oath BY HIMSELF AND THERE IS NO ONE GREATER, especially angels who are created like the rest of us mere humans.

The angel of the Lord who is YHWH is worshiped as YHWH- the Lord God !

Gen 22:11-14

But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!"

"Here I am," he replied.

12 "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."

13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided."

Exodus 3:2, 5

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed…And he said, Draw not nigh thither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.”

Judg 6:11-28

The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12 When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, "The Lord is with you, mighty warrior."

13 "But sir," Gideon replied, "if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our fathers told us about when they said, 'Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt? But now the Lord has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian."

14 The Lord turned to him and said, "Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian's hand. Am I not sending you?"

15 "But Lord,” Gideon asked, "how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family."

16 The Lord answered, "I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together."

17 Gideon replied, "If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me. 18 Please do not go away until I come back and bring my offering and set it before you."

And the Lord said, "I will wait until you return."

19 Gideon went in, prepared a young goat, and from an ephah of flour he made bread without yeast. Putting the meat in a basket and its broth in a pot, he brought them out and offered them to him under the oak.

20 The angel of God said to him, "Take the meat and the unleavened bread, place them on this rock, and pour out the broth." And Gideon did so. 21 With the tip of the staff that was in his hand, the angel of the Lord touched the meat and the unleavened bread. Fire flared from the rock, consuming the meat and the bread. And the angel of the Lord disappeared. 22 When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, he exclaimed, "Ah, Sovereign Lord! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!"

23 But the Lord said to him, "Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die."

24 So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it The Lord is Peace. To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

25 That same night the Lord said to him, "Take the second bull from your father's herd, the one seven years old.Tear down your father's altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. 26 Then build a proper kind of altar to the Lord your God on the top of this height. Using the wood of the Asherah pole that you cut down, offer the second bull as a burnt offering."

27 So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the Lord told him. But because he was afraid of his family and the men of the town, he did it at night rather than in the daytime.

28 In the morning when the men of the town got up, there was Baal's altar, demolished, with the Asherah pole beside it cut down and the second bull sacrificed on the newly built altar!

I rest my case !

hope this helps !!!

I. Plural pronouns used of God proving the trinity:

Click here for detailed study of plural references to God

A. Three plural pronouns, (We, Us, Our) used 6 different times in four different passages. Remember the word God (elohim) is also plural every time it is used in the Old Testament. Gen 11:7 also includes a plural verb (confuse) which even further, through grammar reinforces the plural "elohim" and the plural pronoun US.

  1. "Our" Gen 1:26
  2. "Us" Gen 1:26; 3:22; 11:7; Isa 6:8
  3. "We" Isa 6:8
B. These are the four passages where God speaks for Himself and uses plural pronouns:

  1. "Then God [plural elohim] said, "Let Us [plural pronoun] make man in Our [plural pronoun] image, according to Our [plural pronoun] likeness" Genesis 1:26
  2. "Then Yahweh God [plural elohim] said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us [plural pronoun], knowing good and evil" Genesis 3:22
  3. "Come, let Us [plural pronoun] go down and there confuse [plural form of balal] their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech." Genesis 11:7
  4. "Then I heard the voice of the Lord [plural elohim], saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us [plural pronoun]?"" Isaiah 6:8
II. Christ is the identical image of God, angels are not

A. Jesus Christ is our co-creator who is the exact image of God.

  1. "see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. " 2 Corinthians 4:4
  2. "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. " Colossians 1:15
  3. "And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, " Hebrews 1:3
B. There is no reason to suggest the plural pronoun is the "plural of Majesty", since both Jesus and the Father are described as having the same image.

hope this helps !!!

Like I said earlier about Jesus declaring its al about Him in Scripture.

The Messiah is the most important human being. He alone is able to bring peace to all broken relationships – especially our most important relationship, the Creator-creature relationship. Because of Messiah, human beings can be reconciled to God. And we can be reconciled to one another. Because of the Messiah, nature will be completely restored one day and we will be at peace with nature. A time is coming when “shalom shalom” – perfect peace will characterize all relationships – with God, human beings, angels, nature – all because of the Messiah. It’s essential to know about the Messiah.

Christians and Messianic Jews claim that Yeshua is the Messiah. There are six kinds of evidence: Messianic Prophecies; Yeshua’s Prophecies; Yeshua’s Miracles; Other Evidences; Yeshua’s Impact On The World; Yeshua’s Resurrection From Death.

1. Messianic Prophecies

The amazing Messianic prophecies that are found in the Tenach and fulfilled in the New Testament Scriptures demonstrate that the Bible is a supernatural book inspired by God, and that Yeshua is the Messiah.

  • Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem and yet originate from the days of eternity (Micah 5:1-2). Yeshua was born in Bethlehem. See Matthew 2:1-6, Luke 2:1-20.
  • Messiah had to be a Jewish man, from the tribe of Judah, and from the family of King David (Isaiah 9:7, 11:1-9, Jeremiah 23:5-6). Yeshua was! See Matthew 1:1-17.
  • Messiah was to come before 70 AD (Daniel 9:24-27). Yeshua did. See Luke 1:5, 2:1-7.
  • Messiah was to enter Jerusalem triumphantly, yet humbly on a donkey, (Zechariah 9:9). Yeshua did. See Matthew 21:1-9, John 12:12-16.
  • Messiah was to be initially rejected by the majority of Israel, especially the leaders (Isaiah 53:1-3, Psalm 118:22). Yeshua was. See John 1:11, 12:37-43, Acts 4:1-12. The fact that the majority of Jewish people don’t believe in Him is a strong point for the fact that He is the Messiah!
  • Messiah was to be tried and condemned even though He was innocent (Isaiah 53:8). Yeshua was. See Matthew 27:1-2, Luke 23:1-25.
  • Messiah was to be silent before His accusers (Isaiah 53:7). Yeshua was. See Matthew 27:12-14, Mark 15:3-4, Luke 23:8-10.
  • Messiah was to be beaten and spit upon (Micah 5:1-2, Isaiah 50:6). Yeshua was. See Matthew 26:67, Mark 27:30, Mark 14:65.
  • Messiah was to be mocked and taunted (Psalm 22:7-8). Yeshua was. See Matthew 27:39-43, Luke 23:11, 35-36.
  • Lots would be cast for Messiah’s garments (Psalm 22:18). They were. See Matthew 27:35, Mark 15:24.
  • Messiah was to be pierced (Zechariah 12:10). Yeshua was. See John 19:18, 34-37.
  • Messiah was to die by crucifixion (Psalm 22:14-17). Yeshua was. See Matthew 27:31, Mark 15:20, 25.
  • Messiah was to wrongly suffer with transgressors yet pray for His enemies (Isaiah 53:12). Yeshua did. See Matthew 27:38, Mark 15:27.
  • Messiah was to die as an offering for sin (Isaiah 53:5-6, 8, 10-12, Daniel 9:24-27, Zechariah 9:9, 12:10, Psalm 16:10, 22). See John 1:29, 11:49-52, 1 Corinthians 15:53.
  • Messiah was to be raised from the dead (Isaiah 53:12, Zechariah 12:10, Daniel 9:24-27, Psalm 16:10, Psalm 22, Psalm 118:22-23). Yeshua was! See Matthew 28:1-10, Acts 2:22-32.
  • Messiah was to be God born into humanity (Isaiah 9:6-7, Jeremiah 23:5-6, Psalm 110:1, Proverbs 30:4). Yeshua was and is Immanuel – God With Us! See John 1:1, 20:28, Hebrews 1:8.
  • The Messiah was going to have a world-wide impact on the Gentile nations (Isaiah 49:6). Yeshua has! “Jesus has become the most popular, the most studied, the most influential figure in the religious history of mankind… No sensible Jew can be indifferent to the fact that a Jew should have had such a tremendous part in the religious education and direction of the human race…. Who can compute all that Jesus has meant to humanity? The love he has inspired, the solace he has given, the good he has engendered, the hope and joy he has kindled – all that is unequaled in human history… Rabbi Hyman Enelow, past president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis
The probabilities that any one human being could fulfill all these prophecies are infinitesimally small. Yeshua fulfilled these, and many other prophecies, so He must be the Messiah that God promised to send into this world!

2. YESHUA’S PROPHECIES

  • Yeshua predicted His own death, along with many of its details, and amazingly, His own resurrection (John 2:19, 3:14, Matthew 20:17-19).
  • Yeshua predicted that the Second Temple would be destroyed to such an extent that not one stone would be left on top of another (Matthew 24:1-2). When the troops of Roman General Titus broke through the walls and destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD, the Temple was sacked, and subsequently disassembled stone by stone. The inside of the Temple had been with overlaid with gold, and a fire in the Temple caused the gold to melt. The Romans took every stone apart to retrieve as much gold as possible. Thus Yeshua’s prophecy was fulfilled concerning the destruction of the Temple, even to the detail of every stone being taken down.
  • Yeshua predicted due to our lack of belief that He was the Messiah, and our rejection of Him, Jerusalem would be destroyed, we would be exiled among the nations, but eventually, we would return to Israel (Luke 21:23-24). This prophecy began in 70 AD when Jerusalem was destroyed, and then again in 135 AD, when the Jewish people revolted a second time against the Roman empire. We were scattered to the nations, and lost control of Jerusalem. There were always some Jewish people who remained in the land of Israel over the past 2000 years, but starting in the 1880’s, this prophesied regathering of Jewish people to Israel picked up speed. Now there is a reborn nation of Israel, with Jerusalem as its capital, with more than 5.5 million Jewish people regathered from more than 70 countries, just as Yeshua predicted.
  • Yeshua predicted that His words would endure forever, and that His movement would succeed despite all opposition (Matthew 16:18, 24:35).

hope this helps !!!

Thanks for your response, Quintus.
Then why are you interested in going to the Father? I know you do it through Jesus, but why do you want to go to The Father?
Why is The Father your desire, or hope? What does the Father has for you? What do you need from Him?
I don't understand why you keep asking the same thing. I think it's been explained--it is starting to sound like when a child asks "Why" and you answer, and they sat "Why" and you answer, and again and again. I think you like being contrary.

My desire to go to the Father stems from a profound recognition of who He is and what He has done for me. The Father is the source of life, love, and all goodness. He created me, knows me intimately, and has a purpose for my life. Through Jesus, I have been given the gift of reconciliation with Him—a relationship that is both transformative and eternal.

Try breathing or providing your own food by magically creating air or creating sustenance. You can't .God gives you those things.
God gives us all. The problem is God hates sin. He cannot be around it, but He and Jesus made a way for us to be reconciled to Him through Jesus. And even though the sacrifice has been made, we are to go through Jesus to the Father, because He cannot abide sin, and when we pray in the name of Jesus, God sees Him on behalf of us.

What the Father has for me is Himself. He offers a relationship beyond anything the world can provide. His presence fills the deepest longings of my soul, and His promises are my anchor in a world of uncertainty. I don't go to the Father because I need something material or temporary; I go because He is everything I need. In His presence, there is joy, peace, and fulfillment that nothing else can satisfy.

Ultimately, my desire for the Father isn't just about what I can receive, but about being with the One who loved me first, who gave His Son for me, and who longs to walk with me both now and for eternity.

Thank you so much for your uplifting response, Quintus5.
I had been insisting because I wanted to hear this kind of an answer... not a theological one, but a personal, heartfelt one, like the one you gave. So, my apologies for having bothered you a bit. It was worth it.

You recognize the Father as the source of life, love and all goodness. Also the sustainer of your life: the provider of oxygen, nutrients, everything you need to survive and thrive on this earth.
You recognize that the Father offers you a relationship "beyond anything the world can provide", meeting the needs of your soul, bringing you joy, peace and fulfillment.

What I found particularly inspiring from your answer is the last paragraph, in which it is just being in His presence (and not what specific things you can receive), in His love, manifested through His gift of Christ, is what you desire.

Thanks for sharing this!

Hi Obadiah

Our brother @Quintus5 has kindly shared with us why he is interested in coming to the Father through Jesus... what the Father means for him.
Would you like also to share your thoughts as well?

We know you find victory in Jesus. That is very true.
Then, why do you go to the Father? What does the Father add to your daily life?

Because of Messiah, human beings can be reconciled to God.
I see your point, civic... but why would you be interested in being reconciled to God?
Isn't it enough for you to be reconciled with the Messiah?

Our brother @Quintus5 has shared why he is personally interested in coming to The Father through The Messiah.
The purpose of the thread is to explore this.

In another thread we can explore who is The Father in the Old Testament and the New Testament, if you want.

THE LORD'S PRAYER AND ITS IMPORTANCE IN OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FATHER OF JESUS

Let's examine the model set by Jesus in praying to Our Father... and what it tell us about our relationship with The Father.

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
We recognize The Father as our Loving Creator (which is what a Father is) and praise his name

Your kingdom come.
We recognize that the kingdom we promote on earth when we preach "the good news about the kingdom"... the kingdom we feel citizens of, is the kingdom of The Father.

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
We submit our will to the will of the Father, just as Jesus did.

Give us this day our daily bread.
We recognize The Father as the Sustainer of our daily lives, and so we ask Him for the material resources needed to survive and thrive.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
We recognize the Father as the source of forgiveness.
We also recognize that He expects from us to show to our human fellows the mercy we beg from Him.

And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.
We recognize the Father not only as the source of forgiveness, but the source of our sanctification, our spiritual development.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
We recognize the Father as the ultimate source of all authority, power and glory.

He gives us this our armor

The Warrior's Prayer Ephesians 6

Heavenly Father, Your warriors prepare for battle. Today we claim victory over Satan by putting on the whole armor of God. We put on the Girdle of Truth! May we stand firm in the truth of Your Word so we will not be a victim of Satan's lies.

We put on the Breastplate of Righteousness! May it guard our hearts from evil so we will remain pure and holy, protected under the blood of Jesus Christ.

We put on the Shoes of Peace! May we stand firm in the Good News of the Gospel so Your peace will shine through us and be a light to all we encounter.

We take the Shield of Faith! May we be ready for Satan's fiery darts of doubt, denial, and deceit so we will not be vulnerable to spiritual defeat.

We put on the Helmet of Salvation! May we keep our minds focused on You so Satan will not have a stronghold on our thoughts.

We take the Sword of the Spirit! May the two-edged sword of Your Word be ready in our hands so we can expose the tempting words of Satan.

By faith your warriors have put on the whole armor of God! We are prepared to live this day in spiritual victory! Amen!!

21 "For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.
22 "For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,
23 "that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
25 "Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.
26 "For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,
27 "and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. (Jn. 5:21-27 NKJ)

19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. (1 Jn. 5:19-20 NKJ)

Thank you very much for sharing with us some of the aspects of your relationship with The Father.
It is uplifting to see that you acknowledge that The Father gives you an armor to fight evil: the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the spirit. The Father is indeed the source of our righteousness, faith, salvation, and the Holy Spirit.

We face challenges and temptations every single day, and it is good to know that you find protection and deliverance in The Father.
That is aligned with what Jesus taught us to ask to Our Father in prayer: "Deliver us from evil"

God bless you tonight, Obadiah.

Hi Dizerner and @civic

This thread tries to explore our interest in a relationship with Our Father.
Our fellows @atpollard, @Quintus5 and @Obadiah have already shared their experiences.

Based on what you guys are writing in your posts, should we understand that there is no need or interest from your side to come to Our Father and interact with Him, because Jesus is already the source of everything you need, and the ultimate destination of everything you ask and do?

The only way to avoid any misunderstanding is to hear it directly from you guys.
So, please, forgive my insistence: Why are you interested at all in coming to Our Father? What does Our Father add to your life? What do you ask Him, and why? How do you express your love and gratitude for Him? When do you think of Him?

I think this topic should be of utmost importance for you guys, especially because you accept sincerely Jesus as your Lord. Please consider:

  • Lord Jesus tells you that the ones who will enter his Kingdom are the ones who do the will of Your Father: such is the signature of accepting Jesus as Lord (Matthew 7:21).
  • Lord Jesus tells you that it is Your Father who forgives you (Mat 6:12,14), who rewards you (Mat 6:1), who nurtures you not only physically (Mat 6:11, 32), but spiritually (John 6:32). Lord Jesus tells you that it is Your Father the ultimate purpose of your good deeds (Mat 5:16).
  • Lord Jesus foresaw that you guys, as true believers, would worship Your Father, the same person whom Samaritans and Jews were already worshiping for centuries, although not always wholeheartedly.

Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:21-23)
