The Doctrine of the Resurrection of Christ

Great question and observation !

Here is something to consider, contemplate and seek the Lords wisdom on this aspect below regarding the Resurrection. We must remember Paul defines the gospel in 1 Cor 15:1-8 then spends the entire rest of the chapter focusing on the centerpiece of the gospel, the resurrection of Christ. Below are the reasons why in my humble estimation.

We are not born again / saved by the atonement. It’s His Resurrection from the dead that is life giving , that conquered sin, death and the devil.

We must go back to the gospel and what the scriptures teach about the good news of Jesus death, burial and resurrection as defined in 1 Corinthians 15.

1 Corinthians 15:17- And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.

The passage declares if Christ is not risen, raised from the dead, resurrected then our faith is in vain and we are still dead in our sins. We are saved by His life/Resurrection not His death. His death atoned for sin but does not give life.

Romans 4:24-25

but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

Paul declares in Romans 5:10 the following: For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Cf Acts 17:31.

John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

We know that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ. Romans 10:17. We know that God saves those who believe – 1 Corinthians 1:21. We know that we receive the spirit and are sealed with the spirit through belief in the gospel- Ephesians 1:13.

Philippians 3:10 refers to the power displayed in the resurrection and the power that comes from it. The resurrection of Jesus Christ was a powerful demonstration of the power of God. Not only was Jesus raised up but we were raised up with Him (Ephesians 4:8; 2:6).

There is life-giving power of His resurrection. The resurrection power of God is His dunamis or explosive power. Resurrection life brings the life of God at our conversion when we are born again. (John 11:25 – 26; 1 John 5:12). The Holy Spirit indwells us when we are born again. We are changed, born of the Spirit, and we have the same life in us as He has, the Zoe life of God (2 Corinthians 5:17; John 3:3-8.)

Romans 6:4-6
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

Romans 8:10-11
And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

hope this helps !!!
Now this is what I would call-rightly cutting straight the D'var of YHVH-and an old Japanese saying: The nail that sticks out-gets hammered.

Jesus is forever God in the flesh ( Incarnate) some more proof to support His bodily Resurrection/ Ascension was permanent.

Colossians 2:9
King James Bible
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily

Now read the Greek below on the present ongoing meaning of DWELLS . The bodily dwelling of Deity is permanent not temporary. The Incarnation was PERMANENT.

κατοικεῖ (katoikei)
Verb - Present Indicative Active - 3rd Person Singular
Strong's Greek 2730: To dwell in, settle in, be established in (permanently), inhabit. From kata and oikeo; to house permanently, i.e. Reside.

8.2 σωματικός, ή, όν; σωματικῶςa: (derivatives of σῶμαa ‘body,’ 8.1) pertaining to a physical body—‘bodily, physical, bodily form.’[1] Louw Nida

Expositor's Greek Testament
Colossians 2:9. in Him and in Him alone.—κατοικεῖ: “permanently dwells”. The reference is to the Exalted State, not only on account of the present, but of the context and Paul’s Christology generally.—πᾶν τὸ πλήρωμα τῆς θεότητος: “all the fulness of the Godhead”. πᾶν is emphatic, the whole fulness dwells in Christ.

Body
sōmatikṓs (an adverb, derived from 4984 /sōmatikóswhich is an adjective derived from 4983 /sṓma, "body") – bodily(used only in Col 2:9)Loew & Nida Greek Lexicon

Never once in the NT is soma ever used of something nonphysical or immaterial .

Paul is talking in Colossians chapters 2-3 about the glorified resurrected Christ now seated at the right hand of God not the earthly Christ pre resurrection. This is a slam dunk that He is in a human glorified resurrection body and that He continues to have all the fullness of Deity dwelling bodily in the present.

Bodily (σωματικῶς) In bodily fashion or bodily-wise. The verse contains two distinct assertions: 1. That the fullness of the Godhead eternally dwells in Christ. The present tense κατοικεῖ dwelleth, is used like ἐστιν is (the image), Colossians 1:15, to denote an eternal and essential characteristic of Christ's being. The indwelling of the divine fullness in Him is characteristic of Him as Christ, from all ages and to all ages. Hence the fullness of the Godhead dwelt in Him before His incarnation, when He was "in the form of God" (Philippians 2:6). The Word in the beginning, was with God and was God (John 1:1). It dwelt in Him during His incarnation. It was the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth, and His glory which was beheld was the glory as of the Only begotten of the Father (John 1:14; compare 1 John 1:1-3). The fullness of the Godhead dwells in His glorified humanity in heaven.

2. The fullness of the Godhead dwells in Him in a bodily way, clothed the body. This means that it dwells in Him as one having a human body. This could not be true of His preincarnate state, when He was "in the form of God," for the human body was taken on by Him in the fullness of time, when "He became in the likeness of men" (Philippians 2:7), when the Word became flesh. The fullness of the Godhead dwelt in His person from His birth to His ascension. He carried His human body with Him into heaven, and in His glorified body now and ever dwells the fullness of the Godhead. Vincent Greek Word Studies

(2:9) Commenting on the contents of this verse, Lightfoot says; “The apostle justifies the foregoing charge that the doctrine was not according to Christ: ‘In Christ dwells the whole plērōma (πληρωμα) (fulness, plenitude), the entire fulness of the Godhead, whereas they represent it to you as dispersed among several spiritual agencies. Christ is the fountain-head of all spiritual life, whereas they teach you to seek it in communion with inferior creatures.’ ”

“Dwelleth” is katoikei (κατοικει). Oikeō (Ὀικεω) means “to be at home.” Kata (Κατα), prefixed, means “down,” thus showing permanence. The compound verb was used of the permanent residents of a town as compared with the transient community. The verb is in the present tense, showing durative action. The translation reads: “Because in Him there is continuously and permanently at home all the fulness of the Godhead in bodily fashion.”

Death Where Is Your Sting?

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:55‬ ‭KJV‬‬

O death where is your sting? Jesus Christ conquered death, hell, and the grave. There is nothing that can withhold His Love from you. There is nothing that can keep you out of His Reach. There is no yoke that He cannot destroy. There is no chain that He cannot break. He is Life. He is the Resurrection and Christ can set you free from all the bondage of the enemy.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:56-57‬ ‭KJV‬‬ declares, “The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Sin is the sting of death. Christ conquered sin and put death in its place. Romans‬ ‭6:23‬ ‭KJV‬‬ declares, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Our God is Life and has Authority over all the power of death. Matthew‬ ‭28:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬ declares, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” Christ is Victorious over all of the power of the enemy. Matthew‬ ‭28:18‬ ‭AMPC‬‬ puts it this way, “Jesus approached and, breaking the silence, said to them, All authority (all power of rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”

Christ came to resurrect every part of your life and to snatch you back from the grip of the enemy. John‬ ‭10:10‬‬‬ declares,‭‭ “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” Christ came to set you free. Christ came so that you can have life and life more abundantly. Choose to surrender to Christ and watch your life completely turn around.

And The Word Was Made Flesh.

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. The Word of God has all Authority and Power over all things. Jesus Christ was, and is, the Word of God in the flesh. He was, and is, full of Grace and Truth. For He is Grace and Truth. When the Word was made flesh and walked among us — He became our Living example. He lived out, and completely fulfilled, every aspect of the Word — because He was the Word of God made flesh.

John‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬ declares, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭AMPC‬‬ declares, “IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.” Before time existed — Christ was. Christ existed before all the ages of the world. Before the framework of time existed — God was. Before the borders and boundaries of time were set in place — God existed.

In fact, Hebrews‬ ‭11:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬ declares, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” The worlds were shaped by the Word of God.

The Amplified Version expounds on Hebrews‬ ‭11:3‬ AMPC in the following manner: “By faith we understand that the worlds [during the successive ages] were framed (fashioned, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose) by the word of God, so that what we see was not made out of things which are visible.”

Christ, the Word of God, shaped every age. The Word of God formed, shaped, fashioned, equipped, and set in order every age of the Earth. So that means every age of the world submits to the Living Word of God — Jesus Christ. So not only is He the Resurrection and the Life — but everything in the Earth, everything below the Earth, and all of time, bows and submits to the Name and Authority of Jesus Christ.

Philippians‬ ‭2:9-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬ puts it this way, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Nothing stands above Him. No one outranks Him. No one outclasses Him — for Jesus Christ is highly exalted.

And The Word Was Made Flesh.

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He was, and is, full of Grace and Truth. For He is Grace and Truth. When the Word was made flesh and walked among us — He became our Living example. No one outranks Him. No one outclasses Him — for Jesus Christ is highly exalted.
If He is still called Jesus then He is still human, a man since that is His human name.

'And there came a fire out from before the LORD,
and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat:
which when all the people saw,
they shouted, and fell on their faces.'

(Lev 9:24)

Hello @civic,

The words, 'accepted in the Beloved' of Ephesians chapter one, holds a special place in my heart: and it is the knowledge that it was the sacrificial offering of Christ on our behalf, which made our acceptance by God possible. He accepts us, 'in the Beloved', and without Him there would be no acceptance. For He is our offering for sin. The resurrection of Christ was the proof that His sacrificial offered on our behalf was accepted. As the fire that engulfed the sacrificial offerings made in the verse quoted above. Without the resurrection we would still be in our sins.

Just thoughts.
In Christ Jesus

GREEK VERB TENSES USED FOR SALVATION

Salvation is not a product, but a daily relationship with God in Christ. It is not finished when one trusts Christ; it has only begun (a gate and then a road, cf. Matt. 7:13-14)! It is not a fire insurance policy, nor a ticket to heaven, but a life of growing Christlikeness (cf. Rom. 8:28-29; 2 Cor. 3:18; 7:1; Gal. 4:19; Eph. 1:4; 4:13; 1 Thess. 3:13; 4:3,7; 5:23; 1 Pet. 1:15). We have a proverbial saying in America that says the longer a couple lives together, the more they begin to look alike. This is the goal of salvation!

SALVATION AS A COMPLETED ACTION (aorist)

• Acts 15:11

• Romans 8:24

• 2 Timothy 1:9

• Titus 3:5

• Romans 13:11 (combines the aorist with a future orientation)

SALVATION AS A STATE OF BEING (perfect)

• Ephesians 2:5,8

SALVATION AS A CONTINUING PROCESS (present)

• 1 Corinthians 1:18; 15:2

• 2 Corinthians 2:15

• 1 Peter 3:21

SALVATION AS A FUTURE CONSUMMATION (future in verb tense or context)

• Romans 5:9,10; 10:9,13

• 1 Corinthians 3:15; 5:5

• Philippians 1:28

• 1 Thessalonians 5:8-9

• Hebrews 1:14; 9:28

• 1 Peter 1:5

Therefore, salvation begins with an initial faith decision (cf. John 1:12; 3:16; Rom. 10:9-13), but this must issue in lifestyle faith (cf. Rom. 8:29; Gal. 2:19-20; Eph. 1:4; 2:10), which will one day be consummated in sight (cf. 1 John 3:2). This final state is called glorification (cf. Rom. 8:28-30). This can be illustrated as

1. initial salvation – justification (saved from the penalty of sin)

2. progressive salvation – sanctification (saved from the power of sin)

3. final salvation – glorification (saved from the presence of sin)

1:4 "He chose us" This is an AORIST MIDDLE INDICATIVE which emphasized the subject's decisive choice.

This focused on the Father's choice before time. God's choice must not be understood in the Islamic sense of determinism nor in the ultra Calvinistic sense of "God chooses some versus God did not choose others," but in a covenantal sense.

God promised to redeem fallen mankind (cf. Gen. 3:15). God called and chose Abraham to choose all humans (cf. Gen. 12:3; Exod. 19:5-6). God calls all in Christ (cf. John 3:16; 4:42; 1 Tim. 2:4; Titus 2:11; 3:4; 2 Pet. 3:9; 1 John 2:2; 4:14). God Himself elected all persons. The believers' choice of trusting in Christ confirms, not determines, God's choice of them. God always takes the initiative in salvation (cf. John 6:44, 65). This text and Rom. 8:28-30; 9:1-33 are the main NT texts for the doctrine of predestination emphasized by Augustine and Calvin.

God chose believers not only to salvation (justification) but also to sanctification (cf. Col. 1:12)! This could relate to

our position in Christ (i.e., imputed righteousness, cf. 2 Cor. 5:21)
God's desire to reproduce His character in His children (cf. Eph. 2:10; Rom. 8:28-29; 2 Cor. 3:15; 7:1; Gal. 4:19; 1 Thess. 3:3; 4:3,7; 5:23; 1 Pet. 1:15)
God's will for His children is both heaven one day and Christlikeness now!

The PRONOUNS in this passage are ambiguous. Most refer to God the Father. This whole passage speaks of His love, purpose and plan to redeem fallen mankind. However, in context it is obvious that the PRONOUNS in Eph. 1:7, 9, 13 & 14 refer to Jesus.

SPECIAL TOPIC: YHWH'S ETERNAL REDEMPTIVE PLAN

SPECIAL TOPIC: HE CHOSE US

"in Him" This is a key concept. The Father's blessings, grace and salvation flow only through Christ (cf. John 10:7-18; 14:6). Notice the repetition of this grammatical form (LOCATIVE OF SPHERE) in Eph. 1:3, "in Christ"; Eph. 1:4, "in Him"; Eph. 1:7, "in Him"; Eph. 1:9, "in Him"; Eph. 1:10, "in Christ," "in Him"; Eph. 1:12, "in Christ" and Eph. 1:13, "in Him" (twice). These are parallel to "in the Beloved" of Eph. 1:6. Jesus is God's "yes" to fallen mankind (Karl Barth). Jesus is the elect man and all are potentially elect in Him (cf. John 3:16). All of God the Father's blessings flow through Christ.

Next to the Study of the nature and character of God ( theology ) my favorite topic is the Resurrection of Jesus which is at the very heart of the gospel and is why Paul spent the entire 15th chapter of 1 Corinthians explaining the doctrine. :) If Christ is not Risen from the dead ( Resurrected ) then your faith is futile and you are still dead in your sins. ( 1 Corinthians 15:17).

hope this helps !!!

Expositor's Greek Testament
Colossians 2:9. in Him and in Him alone.—κατοικεῖ: “permanently dwells”. The reference is to the Exalted State, not only on account of the present, but of the context and Paul’s Christology generally.—πᾶν τὸ πλήρωμα τῆς θεότητος: “all the fulness of the Godhead”. πᾶν is emphatic, the whole fulness dwells in Christ.
dwelt.—ἐν αὐτῷ is emphatic, in Him and in Him alone.—κατοικεῖ: “permanently dwells”. The reference is to the Exalted State, not only on account of the present, but of the context and Paul’s Christology generally.—πᾶν τὸ πλήρωμα τῆς θεότητος: “all the fulness of the Godhead”. πᾶν is emphatic, the whole fulness dwells in Christ, therefore it is vain to seek it wholly or partially outside of Him. πλ. τ. θ. is not to be taken (as by Ol.) to mean the perfection of Divinity, i.e., ideal holiness. Nor can it mean the Church, for which Eph_1:23 gives no support, nor yet the universe, either of which must have been very differently expressed. The addition of θεότητος defines πλ. as the fulness of Deity. The word is to be distinguished from θειότης as Deity, the being God, from Divinity, the being Divine or Godlike. The passage thus asserts the real Deity of Christ.—σωματικῶς. This word is very variously interpreted. The reference is usually taken to be to the glorified body of Christ, or (as by Lightf.) to the Incarnation, and the word is translated “in bodily fashion”. Apart from the question whether the word naturally expresses this, there is the difficulty caused by the contrast implied in its emphatic position. This contrast is sometimes thought to be to the pre-incarnate state, but this has no relevance here. A contrast to the angels might be in point, but they were closely connected with bodies, so the contrast in this respect did not exist. But neither is Soden’s view that while the angels have bodies what is expressed in them is only θειότης (Rom_1:20) not πλ. τ. θεότητος, a tenable explanation, since this is just read into the words, not elicited from them; nor could such a distinction have occurred to the readers. This interpretation of σωμ., then, as expressing the indwelling of the fulness in a body, although said by Abbott to be “the only one tenable,” is encumbered with grave difficulties, and has been rejected by several commentators. Many have taken it to mean “really” (recently Bleek, Kl[12], Everling, Cremer). This is supported by the contrast of σῶμα with σκιά in Col_2:17, the indwelling is real and not shadowy or typical. But σωματικῶς could hardly express this shade of meaning unless the antithesis was expressed. Oltramare translates “personally, in His person”. But he quotes no instances of the adverb, but only of σῶμα. And Haupt’s criticism is just, that this sense might suggest that in God Himself it dwelt impersonally. After an elaborate examination of the various views, Haupt puts forward the explanation that σωματ. relates to τ. πλ. τ. θ., and is to be translated “in the form of a body”. The meaning he takes to be that the fulness exists in Christ as a body, that is as a complete and organic whole. This suits the context and the general argument better than the reference to Christ’s own body. In contrast to the distribution of the fulness among the angels, or to the view that it dwelt only partially in Him, Paul insists that all the fulness dwells in Him, and not fragmentarily but as an organic whole. This view, like Oltramare’s, is supported only by references to the use of σῶμα. This is not a fatal objectiön, and its harmony with the context makes it the most probable interpretation.

Salvation is not a product, It is not finished when one trusts Christ;

You are teaching your self effort is your Salvation.

That is not the truth.
That's LEGALISM

Salvation, did not require you to believe it, or try to keep it, as it was FINISHED by Jesus on the Cross.... long ago.
Salvation was and is the Cross of Christ, that was given to this world as """"the Gift of Salvation""", 2000 yrs before you were born and decided to teach that your self effort is your Salvation.

Try being honest.....

First of all, you were not "called a heretic".

Do you have reading issues ??

I said "let me show you, what heretic's teach'.

Then i showed you.

So, i think that after 30 yrs... as that is what i believe you stated is how long you have been a Christian, .. its about time you gave Jesus all the Credit do HIM ALONE for saving you and keeping you saved.

Don't you agree that its about time you honored HIM as the One who is your Salvation?

Start anytime you like.
How about : now ?

See, you stated that you are trying to finish your salvation, and that means you dont understand what The Lord Jesus Said, from the Cross, before He died to complete it for you.

He said... "IT is finished".

That's your Salvation, @Johann .

He FINISHED IT FOR YOU, by shedding His Blood and DYING.... and God gives this SACRIFICE, this BLOOD ATONEMENT.... to you, as "the GIFT of Salvation".

You dont complete it, as Christ has already finished it for you, 2000 yrs ago.

This is the Cross of Christ..... @Johann

Welcome : to SALVATION

Its a "Gift".

Listen and learn-yes, you ARE inferring I am a heretic-on the other Forum and now here-don't waste my time since I am not here to show how "intellectual I am" but 18 inches down is what really matters-what I post is for the edification to others including me-boasting excluded.
Why don't you thank God for his chesed that YOU are here, on THIS Forum-we are not here "to do our own thang" but to glorify Jesus Christ.

Show some fruit and not what Hinei is saying.

Try not to be so dramatic.

Turn off your emotional Opera.
No one is interested in the performance, @Johann

Now read your own words....

@Johann said

Not playing the victim for you-I have posted and given you the podcast.

Not playing the victim for you-I have posted and given you the podcast.

Have you not read that i dont read your endless cut and paste, and i dont watch the men you follow as your next leader?

I think you know this by now, as ive told you many times.. for about 2 yrs.

What i do with your cut and paste, is, i find the one sentence .....OBO... that you actually write, and just post that error and respond to it.

Nothing new.
So, expect it every time i reply to you.

@Behold and @ Johann lets please stop the personal things in the posts and stay focused on the argument and not the person. I know both of you are more than capable of doing that with each other. If its not possible then maybe just ignore each other for a while until things settle down.

PS - I have to do that myself from time to time. A moderator yesterday in fact deleted several of my posts and I got a warning to stop the nonsense. So I'm including myself here since I'm guilty of the same.

hope this helps !!!

Brother-what I post is to glorify our Lord Christ Jesus and I won't "roll over" with this particular member-my salvation and eternal destination is ever before me and like I've said, I am here to learn.
I don't post everyday as you may have noticed.
All I have is Utley, Marvin and Robertson and a few exegetical commentaries plus the links you have shared.
I am trying to avoid this member and the fault is not with me.
