Eph 6:15

Hello there,

The words 'the gospel of peace' within the context of Ephesians 6 have caught my attention, and insist on being considered. Linked with it in my mind are further words from Ephesians 4, and 'The Unity of the Spirit' which we are told to 'Keep':-

'I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord,
beseech you that ye walk worthy
of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
With all lowliness and meekness,
with longsuffering,
forbearing one another in love;
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit
in the bond of peace.
There is -
.. one body, and
.... one Spirit, even as ye are called in
...... one hope of your calling;
........ One Lord,
.......... one faith,
............ one baptism,
.............. One God and Father of all,
Who is above all, and through all, and in you all.'

(Eph 4:1-6)

This 'bond of peace' I believe to be that peace which The Lord Jesus Christ procured for us, and described in Ephesians 2:14-22:-

For He is our peace, (Christ Jesus our risen and glorified Lord)
Who hath made both one, (Jew and Gentile believers in the church which is the Body of Christ)
and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Having abolished in His flesh the enmity,
even the law of commandments contained in ordinances;
for to make in Himself of twain one new man,
so making peace;
And that He might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross,
having slain the enmity thereby:

And came and preached peace to you which were afar off,
and to them that were nigh.
For through Him we both have access
by one Spirit unto the Father.
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners,
but fellowcitizens with the saints,
and of the household of God;

And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone;
In Whom all the building fitly framed together
groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
In Whom ye also are builded together
for an habitation of God through the Spirit.'

(Eph 2:14-22)

Praise God!

I believe that this is the peace that we are to 'keep', between believers. That is why I believe that in The Church which is The Body of Christ there is simply Christ. There is nothing that the flesh has to perform, for even the one baptism that we are to 'keep' is of the Spirit, and is performed the moment we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord, when we are identified with Christ in His death and resurrection by the Spirit. This is a spiritual company, where all is of the Spirit, and the flesh is given nothing within which to boast, save in the Lord Jesus Christ Who has performed all that is necessary for our salvation in His own flesh at the cross, God the Father having received His all-sufficient sacrifice, by raising Him from the dead. So we too are raised and seated 'in Christ' at God's right hand, where we await the Lord's 'appearing' in glory, when we too will appear with Him there.

All is in and of Christ, by the Spirit, according to the will of God the Father. Therefore within The Church which is The Body of Christ, there is no division. No doctrinal difference divides us, for all is covered by Christ Himself, giving us no ground for controversy or debate.

Praise His Holy Name!

'For this cause ... ... ...'

Hello again,

On the strength of the truth revealed in Ephesians 2:14-22, the prayer of Ephesians 3:14-21 was uttered:-

'For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Of Whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
That He would grant you,
according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man;
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith;
that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
May be able to comprehend with all saints
what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
And to know the love of Christ,
which passeth knowledge,
that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly
above all that we ask or think,
according to the power that worketh in us,
Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus
throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.'

(Eph. 3:14-21)

Amen

'And your feet shod
with the preparation
of the gospel of peace;'

(Eph 6:15)

Hello there,

If you have read the OP, I hope you will consider the reference to, 'The Gospel of Peace', as it is found within that context in Ephesian 6 (above): But these words are also found in, Romans 10:-

'How then shall they call on Him
in Whom they have not believed?
and how shall they believe in Him
of Whom they have not heard?
and how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent?
as it is written,
How beautiful are the feet of them
that preach the gospel of peace,
and bring glad tidings of good things!'

(Rom 10:14-15)

* These are the only two references that I can find to this, 'gospel of peace', or, 'good news': but the reference in Romans 10 is a quotation from Isaiah 52:7.

'Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD,
that My People is taken away for nought?
they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the LORD;
and My name continually every day is blasphemed.
Therefore My People shall know My name:
therefore they shall know in that day that I am He that doth speak:
behold, it is I.
How beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of Him that bringeth good tidings,
that publisheth peace;
that bringeth good tidings of good,
that publisheth salvation;
that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice;
with the voice together shall they sing:
for they shall see eye to eye,
when the LORD shall bring again Zion.
Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem:
for the LORD hath comforted His People,
He hath redeemed Jerusalem.
The LORD hath made bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations;
and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.'

(Isa 52:5-10)

* The feet are His feet, referring to the whole person figuratively. It is He that is beautiful, Who came and fulfilled the promises of God to Israel, and will shortly come again, and draw them unto Himself finally and fully when He comes to reign.

-------------------------------

* We who believe God concerning His Son, have 'peace with God' through our Lord Jesus Christ:-
'Therefore being justified by faith,
we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ:
By Whom also we have access by faith
into this grace wherein we stand,
and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.'

(Rom 5:1)

* In The Church which is The Body of Christ, the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, whether Jew or Gentile, has peace one with the other, for the Lord Jesus Christ has taken away the cause of enmity that existed between them ('the law of commandments contained in ordinances') and has created one new man:-

'Having abolished in His flesh the enmity,
even the law of commandments contained in ordinances;
for to make in Himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
And that He might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross,
having slain the enmity thereby:
And came and preached peace to you which were afar off,
and to them that were nigh.
For through Him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.'

(Eph 2:15-18)

* How wonderful this is! Isn't it? we have peace with God, and with each other, in Christ Jesus. The Lord Jesus Christ has achieved this for us. In the light of this, the armour described in Ephesians chapter six, is shown to be vital, that this peace be maintained between us, that the flesh be not manipulated by the enemy, and division caused by any means, that the name of the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be not blasphemed because of us:-

'Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth,
and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of
the gospel of peace; ... '
(Eph 6:14-15)

Praise God!
